Semiotic Resources And Ideological Construction In Southeast Asian Femvertising, Qian Zhang
Semiotic Resources And Ideological Construction In Southeast Asian Femvertising, Qian Zhang
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Femvertising, the practice of integrating feminist messaging into advertising, has emerged as a powerful strategy for challenging gender stereotypes and promoting women's empowerment. However, its adaptation in Southeast Asia poses unique challenges due to the region's diverse cultural and religious norms. This research investigates how semiotic resources in Femvertising campaigns from Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore construct empowerment narratives while addressing local cultural contexts. Combining a systematic literature review with social semiotic analysis, this study explores the visual and linguistic elements in Femvertising campaigns, highlighting their dual role in challenging stereotypes and reinforcing consumerist ideologies. Findings reveal that while these campaigns …

Curatorial Practice Project For Education Program: Analog Expression – Emotional Language Through Camera-Less Photography, Swita Uancharoenkul
Curatorial Practice Project For Education Program: Analog Expression – Emotional Language Through Camera-Less Photography, Swita Uancharoenkul
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This independent study examines curatorial practice in developing educational programs that utilize camera-less photography as a medium for emotional expression. Building upon the theoretical framework of light as both physical phenomenon and metaphorical concept, this research investigates how photograms and cyanotypes function as accessible tools for translating emotional states into visual language through hands-on workshops. The study focuses on analog photographic processes that emphasize direct physical engagement with light-sensitive materials. Unlike digital photography's emphasis on precision and control, analog processes embrace materiality, unpredictability, and temporal engagement, creating opportunities for contemplative practice and authentic emotional expression while requiring minimal technical expertise.Through collaborative …

Curatorial Practice Project For Art Exhibition "Check In Planet Colonization Plan”, Jiajing Ji
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
As digital life increasingly shapes how we engage with culture, Check-in Culture has emerged as a powerful lens through which identity, space, and symbolic value are negotiated. Far from mere location tags, Check-ins on platforms like Instagram and Xiaohongshu are performative acts—blending personal branding, viral humor, and algorithmic visibility. This study examines how ordinary places, such as the now-iconic “Chengdu Disney,” are transformed into cultural landmarks through participatory remixing and meme-driven attention. To explore these dynamics, the “CHECK IN Planet Colonization Plan” online exhibition serves as both a case study and a curatorial experiment, merging artistic interpretation, social media interaction, and …

Investigating Gender-Based Stereotypes In Advertisement Landscape : A Multimodal Analysis Of An Indian Town, Debraj Gogoi, Sweta Sinha
Manusya, Journal of Humanities
This study examines the prevalence of gender stereotypes in outdoor advertising within an Indian satellite town, focusing on the portrayal of women and men in stereotypical gender roles. Images of outdoor advertisements were collected from the busy streets and subjected to purposive sampling for analysis. The analysis was done with critical discourse analysis and multimodal discourse analysis. The results reveal a clear endorsement of men in powerful and high-status positions, while women are consistently depicted as objects and confined to traditional roles as homemakers. The purpose of this study is to emphasize the importance of addressing gender issues, not only …
Problem-Solving Courts And The Outcome Oversight Gap, Erin R. Collins
Problem-Solving Courts And The Outcome Oversight Gap, Erin R. Collins
Law Faculty Publications
Drug courts-and the litany of other problem-solving courts that soon followed in their wake-began as a series of small-scale judicial experiments in criminal punishment reform. They were earnest efforts by criminal court judges to redress an issue that they were well-equipped to see: many people were returning to their courtrooms time and again, often for low-level drug charges, and at a time when court dockets were ballooning because of tough-on-crime arrest and prosecution policies. Early drug court judges combined their power to punish with their authority to control their dockets to create specialized court calendars aimed at providing substance abuse …
Understanding And Addressing The Individualized Emotional Impact Of Aphasia: A Framework For Speech-Language Pathologists, Tyson G. Harmon
Understanding And Addressing The Individualized Emotional Impact Of Aphasia: A Framework For Speech-Language Pathologists, Tyson G. Harmon
Faculty Publications
Emotion plays an integral role in communication and has long been considered relevant to aphasia rehabilitation. Speech-language pathologists (SLPs), however, may sometimes wonder how or whether to address emotional responses. The purpose of the present tutorial was to (1) present a framework that clinicians can use to understand individualized emotional responses in aphasia and (2) discuss examples of how the framework informs practical strategies that SLPs can use to provide emotional support to PWA. Drawing upon a cognitive-motivational-relational theory of emotions perspective combined with emerging research in aphasia, I show that emotion impacts and is impacted by both language processing …

Examining Teachers' Perceptions Of Culturally Responsive Teaching Practices And The Impact On The Academic And Social-Emotional Success Of Black And Brown Boys In Voluntary Prekindergarten Classrooms: A Qualitative Study, Stephanie Gomez Jackson
UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to explore voluntary pre-kindergarten (VPK) teachers’ perspectives regarding the theory of culturally responsive pedagogy. This study also sought to understand how teachers implement culturally responsive teaching practices in VPK classrooms and their perceptions of how culturally responsive teaching impacts the academic and social-emotional success of Black and Brown male students. The study was conducted using a qualitative, phenomenological methodology. Gay’s (2018) pillars of culturally responsive teaching were used as the conceptual framework to explore the cultural characteristics, experiences, and perspectives of voluntary prekindergarten (VPK) teachers. Data collection tools included (1) two recorded semi-structured interviews, …

Sanctuary Without Resistance, Ava Ayers
Sanctuary Without Resistance, Ava Ayers
Lewis & Clark Law Review
Activist movements that embrace the idea of sanctuary for noncitizens are rich with narratives of resistance. These narratives vary; some sanctuary advocates pursue resistance only to specific federal immigration policies, while others offer more radical critiques that challenge the very legitimacy of U.S. immigration law. But when local and state governments adopt sanctuary policies, the idea of resistance is often altogether lost.
Local and state governments who adopt policies of noncooperation with federal immigration enforcement sometimes offer narratives in which the values that motivate sanctuary policies involve not resistance to injustice, but public safety, economic development, and other more traditional …
Moore V. United States: The Constitutionality Of The Taxation Of Unrealized Gains, Loren Naldoza
Moore V. United States: The Constitutionality Of The Taxation Of Unrealized Gains, Loren Naldoza
Lewis & Clark Law Review
Rarely in modern tax jurisprudence does the common adage “nothing is certain except death and taxes” receive a challenge in the highest court in the land. This year, the Supreme Court is considering the most existential question concerning the federal income tax in over a century: what is “income”? The definition of “income” has gone through several developments and adjustments since the enactment of the Sixteenth Amendment. Two taxpayers have reached the Supreme Court to challenge one such aspect of the definition of “income”— whether realization is a constitutional requirement as required by the Sixteenth Amendment. When an accession to …
Restricting The Use Of Rap Lyrics As Evidence In Courts: A Targeted Approach To Tackling Discrimination In Criminal Procedure, Paige M. Walker
Restricting The Use Of Rap Lyrics As Evidence In Courts: A Targeted Approach To Tackling Discrimination In Criminal Procedure, Paige M. Walker
Lewis & Clark Law Review
This Article is a review of Rap on Trial: Race, Lyrics, and Guilt in America. The book largely focuses on the dangers of allowing rap lyrics to be presented as evidence in criminal trials. The authors posit that the fictitious and hyperbolic nature of rap lyrics are misrepresented by prosecutors as autobiographical confessions that document illegal activity and violent character traits of defendants. The authors compare rap to other musical genres and conclude that racism is the underlying cause for why the genres are treated differently in court. The authors also advocate for evidence nullification and argue for a complete …

Dissertations
Problem
The expression ["at that time"] in Dan 12:1 is the last temporal expression of the predictive discourse of Dan 11:2–12:3. There is no consensus about the temporality of this expression. Thus, this dissertation seeks to answer the following question: What is the temporal frame of the phrase ["at that time"] is in Dan 12:1 according to the temporal indicators provided in the context of the predictive discourse of Dan 11:40–12:3?
Methodology
The methodology of this dissertation combines diachronic and synchronic approaches. First, as a diachronic procedure, it analyzes ["at that time"] in the Hebrew Bible to determine its temporality …

The Impact Of Generational Intelligence And Its Relationship With Team Cohesion And Team Performance In A Jamaican Multi-Generational Workforce, Omar Z. D. Oliphant
Dissertations
Problem
The Jamaica Union Conference (JAMU) currently faces a phenomenon of having a multi-generational workforce that includes four generations working alongside each other across its five fields for the first time in its history. This intersection of generations brings challenges concerning the adequacy of leaders’ generational intelligence and its relationship to team outcomes and perceptions of performance. The potential concerns for leaders center around employee recruitment, retention and engagement, conflict resolution, workplace culture, and productivity, among others (Tapscott, 2009). Any potential misunderstanding resulting from inadequate cross-generational intelligence among members of the generations currently represented may result in these Jamaican generationally …

The aim of this essay is to apply Michel Foucault’s ideas on power and the practice of freedom to the context of India’s increasingly neoliberalized higher education landscape. The essay revisits Foucault’s notion of subjectivation to analyze the cultural politics of the Hindu Right, which, through organized violence and self-disciplinary mechanisms, has attempted to masculinize, privatize, saffronize, and brahmanicize the nation-state (and the public university), erase the othered body from the nation (and campus spaces), and shape how individuals understand themselves, their identities, and their modes of being in relation to savarna-capitalist power and knowledge. This essay will also suggest …

Data for this study are derived from an exploratory case study, including 13 in-depth interviews, documentary and social media analysis, and informal conversations. The findings illustrate the benefits and shortcomings of NGO information support in choice policy …

Trademark law exists to promote competition. If consumers know which companies make which products, they can more easily find the products they actually want to purchase. Trademark law has long treated “source significance”—the fact that a particular trademark is identified with a particular producer—as both necessary and sufficient for establishing a valid trademark. That is, trademark law has traditionally viewed source significance as the only necessary precondition for a trademark being pro-competitive. In this Article, we argue that this equation of source significance and pro-competitiveness is misguided. Some marks use words that are so closely connected with the product being …
