“This Stone Shall Become The Great, And The Last, And The Only Sure Foundation”: A Nephite Poetics Of Dramatic Fusion And Transfer In Jacob 5, Matthew Scott Stenson
Interpreter: A Journal of Latter-day Saint Faith and Scholarship
In this study, three intersecting images are traced through the small plates until Jacob 5, where they directly (or by implication) culminate in the final section of Zenos’s allegory. The three images appear fused together in Nephi’s and Jacob’s writings. Specifically, this literary study tracks the images of the olive vineyard, the sheepfold and pasture, and the cornerstone or rock foundation. These oddly fused (or adjacent) images, though complexly employed, can be understood best as representing not only Christ but a gospel-centered record to be revealed by him. Fundamental to this reading is the idea that the Good Shepherd gathers …

A Qualitative Inquiry To The Impact Of Peer Teaching On Undergraduate Chemistry Students, Marcus Sambar
Theses and Dissertations
This study investigates the impact of peer teaching on undergraduate STEM majors, particularly those who serve as peer teachers for introductory chemistry courses. While previous research has predominantly focused on the benefits of peer tutoring for the tutored students, the reciprocal impact on peer teachers remains underexplored. The main purpose of this study is to quantify the differences between peer teachers and comparable students who do not engage in teaching, with a specific focus on problem-solving approaches and the ability to explain STEM concepts. The assessment included coding students' work to reveal strategy use and provide a means of comparison …

All Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation investigates the actual versus perceived knowledge of oral language development strategies among early years teachers in international schools. Employing Prestwich’s (2012) "Teacher’s Knowledge of Oral Language Development" (TKOLD) survey, it assesses teachers’ knowledge in critical areas such as promoting extended discourse and the use of specific vocabulary and rare words to promote oral language development with young learners. This research, the first of its kind among international school early years teachers, collected demographic data and actual and perceived knowledge of strategies to support oral language development. Though the survey response rate was lower than desired and did not …

Every organization in every geography and discipline is challenged to develop leaders who can be effective in complex situations. The ethical conduct of appointed leaders is of particular concern. While some individuals possess natural leadership qualities, anyone can build leadership capacity if they put in the work and have the opportunity. Adolescents and even young children can develop foundational leadership skills; in fact, research suggests that it is vital they do so as these skills correlate with later success in both professional and personal pursuits. Youth sports programs are a promising platform for developing leadership capacity due to strong participation …
A Qualitative Case Study: Teacher Perceptions Of The Support Received When Working With English Learners, Jennifer Pare
A Qualitative Case Study: Teacher Perceptions Of The Support Received When Working With English Learners, Jennifer Pare
All Electronic Theses and Dissertations
English Learners (ELs) are one of the fastest-growing student populations in K-12 schools, and attention must be given to the academic achievement gap between ELs and their native English language speaking counterparts. The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), passed in 2015, required every state to adopt English proficiency standards aligned with state academic standards to meet these content and language standards. To shrink the achievement gap, educators must look at how content teachers should teach the essential content standards while providing language instruction and scaffolding for ELs in their classrooms. The rapid growth of the EL population has not been …

Some autofictional texts tend to refer to a socio-historical context through the exploration of a specific subjectivity. On the first hand, telling the self enables to show a singularity which puts in perspective a collective situation by revealing its intersectional complexity. On the other hand, appears the burden of collective normative discourses, which literary writing try to interrogate and distance through valorization of body and affects.

Gisèle Pineau, Pour Une Auto-Gyno-Biographie Littéraire Et Intellectuelle Guadeloupéenne, Françoise Simasotchi-Bronès
Présence Francophone: Revue internationale de langue et de littérature
Unlike other authors in her literary field (P. Chamoiseau, R. Confiant, M. Condé, D. Maximin, etc.), Gisèle Pineau did not write an “intellectual or literary” autobiography strictly speaking ; we can nevertheless reconstruct it from the various interviews she has given or other writings in which she reflects on creative practice. The author draws her scriptural inspiration from empirical models, listening to the life stories (often involving violence) that West Indian women whisper to each other in the privacy of the kitchen. Discreetly disqualifying the scholarly literate library, it favors the female oral library, an illiterate memorial motherhood heritage which …

This article aims at analyzing the heuristic status of self-writing through the articulation of shattered and reconciled identity in La vie sans fards (2012) of Maryse Condé and Ma grand-mère bantoue et mes ancêtres les Gaulois (2003) by Henri Lopes. In fact, we argue that the articulation in question, here, appears as writing for oneself and for others, which is based on a hermeneutical perspective of the self and the sociality of texts proposed by Paul Ricoeur and Claude Duchet. The main objective of this investigation is to understand, in Condé and Lopes writings, the practice of intellectual autobiography as …

Literacy And The English Language Learner: How The Science Of Reading Informs Best Literacy Practices For English Language Learners, Elizabeth K. Steinbock
All Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This thesis explores how the science of reading (the body of research that supports evidence-based practices around literacy development) informs educators about the most effective practices for the development of proficient literacy skills in ELL students. This review begins by examining the theoretical framework underpinning much of the current literacy research, literature, and practice. All major areas of reading development are covered, including comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, and foundational skills (phonology, decoding, morphology). Through an extensive literature review, this thesis uncovers the complex factors that impact ELL students’ literacy development, including their level of proficiency in their first language, predictors of …

Navigating Gentrification: Exploring The Relationship Around Immigrant Integration, Sense Of Belonging, Social Capital, And Success, Patricia Stocker
Navigating Gentrification: Exploring The Relationship Around Immigrant Integration, Sense Of Belonging, Social Capital, And Success, Patricia Stocker
Community Engagement Student Work
Gentrification and its impact on immigrant communities are complex and evolving phenomena deeply intertwined with the racial and immigrant histories specific to each city. Hwang (2015) argues that gentrification perpetuates racial and ethnic inequality across urban landscapes, highlighting the need for comprehensive approaches to address its effects on immigrant populations. This study examines the intersection of gentrification, immigrant entrepreneurship, and community development, emphasizing the significance of fostering a sense of belonging and social capital within immigrant communities. Building on existing research, this capstone proposes a community project aimed at welcoming immigrants, integrating them into local communities, and facilitating their success …

Empowering Students Of Color To Study Abroad: Effective Approaches For Predominantly White Institutions, A'Mari Bing-Way
Community Engagement Student Work
Traditionally studying abroad is an opportunity afforded to college students. For many, it is perceived as a desirable and essential component to the college experience. Initially developed by a white professor for white students at a predominantly white institution (PWI) to immerse themselves in European culture. The study abroad model in higher education was not designed with inclusivity in mind. However, research suggests that access to such opportunities depends on a student’s network to include: social, cultural, and financial capital as well as the university’s investment in empowering students to participate in study abroad programs. Historically, government funded initiatives have …

The Ersatz Of The Plain-Meaning Rule Of Statutory Construction In Sackett V. Epa (Ii), Dana Neacsu
The Ersatz Of The Plain-Meaning Rule Of Statutory Construction In Sackett V. Epa (Ii), Dana Neacsu
Duquesne Law Review
This essay uses the United States Supreme Court second decision in Sackett v. EPA,1 or Sackett (II), to stress the obvious: judges are tasked with decoding the nation's laws for everyone's understanding. Or, in the words of John Marshall: "It is emphatically the province and duty of the judicial department to say what the law is."2 Later that century, Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. further clarified that judicial duty: "Thereupon we ask, not what this man meant, but what those words would mean in the mouth of a normal speaker of English, using them in circumstances …

Gender Dysphoria And The Americans With Disabilities Act: The Shameful Wall Of Exclusion, Victoria Lynn Smith
Duquesne Law Review
On July 26, 1990, President George H.W. Bush signed the Americans with Disabilities Act ("ADA') and celebrated the moment that the "shameful wall of exclusion finally [came] tumbling down."1 At that moment, the President promised that this legislation was a proverbial sledgehammer marking the end of discrimination in America.2 Nevertheless, over thirty years later, individuals at the intersection of disability rights and transgender rights are still struggling against exclusion as they attempt to receive the promised protections of the ADA.3
