Late Romantic Cello Works By Women For Intermediate Cello Study, Rong Cao
Late Romantic Cello Works By Women For Intermediate Cello Study, Rong Cao
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
Many cello works by female composers from the late nineteenth century have been discovered and performed. However, not many of these works have been introduced to the intermediate-level students. This document aims to fill that gap by introducing four cello works by four different female composers from the late nineteenth century that are suitable for intermediate cello study. These pieces are Agnes Zimmermann’s Cello Sonata in G minor, Mary Carr Moore’s Love Song, for cello and piano, Rebecca Clarke’s Two Pieces for violin or viola and cello, and Alice Verne-Bredt’s Wiegenlied (Lullaby), for violin or cello and piano. The document …

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) pose a lethal risk for all life forms by causing damage to cell processes, genome-wide DNA damage-driving mutation, replicative instability, and death. Thus, the development of mechanisms to resist or repair ROS-induced DNA damage is critical for the reliable replication of nucleic acids. DNA repair and protection mechanisms have been discovered in all forms of life. However, the vast array of microbes that may harbor novel repair or protection mechanisms, especially bacterial viruses, have not been adequately assessed. Here, we screened a microbial gene library composed primarily of phage open reading frames (ORFs) to uncover elements …

The Pressing Need For State Sovereignty Recognition For Post-Territorial States, Benjamin Price
Georgia Journal of International & Comparative Law
This note offers an analysis of the retention of national sovereignty by
states that have lost all of their territory, primarily by analyzing the
international recognition of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta as a post-
territorial state. This analysis will be of increasing pertinence as more nations
face territorial loss due to climate change. This paper traces the development
of the Order's role in world politics and its ongoing international recognition
by various nations.

Advances in Clinical Medical Research and Healthcare Delivery
Encapsulating Peritoneal Sclerosis (EPS) is a rare but deadly sequlae of peritoneal dialysis resulting in intraperitoneal inflammation and fibrosis. The disease itself can present in a variety of ways and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Here we present the case of a man in his 50's with a history of chronic peritoneal aspergillus as well as end-stage renal disease on peritoneal dialysis that had multiple admissions for abdominal fluid collections as well as bowel obstruction. After a multidisciplinary approach, the patient was diagnosed with encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis and then started the recommended therapy of tamoxifen and prednisone.

Background: Lifestyle plays an important role in shaping the gut microbiome. However, its contributions to the oral microbiome remain less clear, due to the confounding effects of geography and methodology in investigations of populations studied to date. Furthermore, while the oral microbiome seems to differ between foraging and industrialized populations, we lack insight into whether transitions to and away from agrarian lifestyles shape the oral microbiota. Given the growing interest in so-called "vanishing microbiomes" potentially being a risk factor for increased disease prevalence in industrialized populations, it is important that we distinguish lifestyle from geography in the study of microbiomes …

The need for echocardiography in pediatric Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia (SAB) remains uncertain. We reviewed 331 pediatric SAB cases. Nine subjects, all with comorbidities, met the echocardiogram criteria for infective endocarditis (IE). IE was associated with congenital heart disease and prolonged bacteremia, suggesting that echocardiography is unnecessary in most children with SAB.

Herpes simplex virus (HSV) is well known to cause Central Nervous System (CNS) infections, ranging from more common HSV-2 viral meningitis to the more rare and severe HSV-1 encephalitis. Here we present an atypical case of aseptic meningitis due to HSV-1. Intriguingly, despite the potential severity of HSV-1 infections, the patient had an uncomplicated course with only mild symptoms that resolved with conservative management alone. This case report aims to provide a frame of reference for the non-specific presentation of a patient with uncommon HSV-1 meningitis.

Social stress is the most significant source of chronic stress in humans and is commonly associated with health impairment. Individual differences in the behavioral coping responses to stress have been proposed to mediate the negative effects of stress on physical, behavioral and mental health. Animal models, particularly mice, offer valuable insights into the physiological and neurobiological correlates of behavioral coping strategies in response to chronic social stress. Here we aim to identify differences and similarities among stress protocols in mice, with particular attention to how neuroendocrine and/or behavioral responses vary according to different coping strategies, while highlighting the need for …

Lupin Root Diseases - Diagnosis And Management, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia
Grains and other field crops factsheets
Root, hypocotyl and stem base diseases can be significant problems in lupin crops, reducing stand density, plant vigour and yield. Root disease is present in nearly all narrow leafed lupin (Lupinus angustifolius) paddocks but in the majority of paddocks has only a small impact on crop development. However, in paddocks where high levels of root rot occurs, plant establishment, seedling vigour and crop yield can be significantly affected.
When a root disease is present in a crop very little can be done to manage it in that cropping season. It is therefore vital that the cause is correctly identified to …
