Air Flow Behavior Assessment In Particulate Filtration Efficiency (Pfe) Tester Via Computational Fluid Dynamics (Cfd), Muhammad Amer
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Particulate Filtration Efficiency (PFE) assessment is critical for evaluating filter media. There are several PFE testing protocol depending on products and issuing countries, for example ASTM-F2299 standard for disposable medical masks, NIOSH-TEB-APR-STP-0059 for N and R series respirators, and ISO-29463 for HEPA filters. While the PFE testing principles of all standard are the same, their requirement, testing protocol and minute details are different. Air flow characteristic before and after filter media in testing chamber is very important to accuracy of PFE measurement, especially for ASTM F2299 standard. We have developed a custom PFE tester per ASTM F2299 using a simple …

Corporate Social Responsibility, Advertising Intensity, And Performance: The Importance Of National Philanthropic Environments, Alexey V. Semenov, Arilova A. Randrianasolo
Funded Scholarship
This study investigates the relationships among Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), advertising intensity, and performance in different national philanthropic environments. National philanthropic environment is defined as the propensity of a nation to be philanthropic. Employing institutional theory, we hypothesize that (1) advertising intensity mediates the CSR/performance relationship, (2) national philanthropic environment moderates the relationship between CSR and advertising intensity, and (3) national philanthropic environments moderate the relationship between advertising intensity and performance. Using a sample of 262 firms from 10 countries, the results support the moderated mediation model. We demonstrate that the success of CSR programs depends on their effective integration …

Background: Clinicians and researchers often assume that symptom burden is associated with self-care management (SCM) in patients with heart failure (HF). However, that association is often not borne out in simple regression analyses and may be because another variable mediates the association. Fatalism is an appropriate candidate for mediation and is the belief that circumstances are predetermined without opportunity for control by individuals.
Objective: Our objective was to determine whether fatalism mediated the relationship of symptom burden with SCM among adults with HF.
Methods: We conducted a secondary analysis (N = 95) from a clinical trial. We used Self-care of …

Impact Of A Culturally-Grounded And Interprofessional Approach To Managing Latino/Hispanic Patients At Risk For Or Diagnosed With Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: A Pilot Study, Jahnavi Yalamanchili
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Background: Despite significant progress in diabetes research, there remain significant health disparities between Hispanic/Latino patients in the United States, particularly those with lower socioeconomic status, compared to non-Hispanic white patients. Previous studies have identified potential reasons behind these disparities, including the need for a multifaceted approach that addresses social determinants of health (SDOH) faced by patients. Social cognitive theory (SCT) stipulates that interventions that promote self-management by improving knowledge, self-efficacy, and problem-solving skills can be successful in improving health outcomes. However, there is a paucity of studies that have evaluated an interprofessional approach to providing culturally relevant care, in particular …

ASDs were prepared using HME and were characterized …
Medical Expenditures And The Measurement Of Poverty In The United States, Luke Petach, David K. Wyant
Medical Expenditures And The Measurement Of Poverty In The United States, Luke Petach, David K. Wyant
Funded Scholarship
Using data from the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS) we estimate the fraction of the US population that is health poor. A person is health poor if their income prior to paying health insurance premiums and out-of-pocket healthcare costs is above the poverty line, but their income net-of-premiums and out-of-pocket healthcare costs is below the poverty line. Because resources used to finance health insurance premiums and out-of-pocket costs are (A) lexicographically preferred and (B) cannot be used to maintain an individual’s standard of living, they should be excluded from official poverty estimates. Approximately 1% to 2% of the US population …

Perfectionism, Shame, And Imposter Phenomenon In Health Science Students And Other Students, Angela Gootee
McNair Scholars Research
Undergraduate education is challenging for most students, bridging the path from teenager to young adult while continuing their education. All students will take difficult courses that could affect their mentality. Student mentality is operationally defined using three concepts: perfectionism, shame proneness, and imposter phenomenon. Perfectionism is the striving towards unrealistic and impossible to reach standards. Shame is a negative emotion students can feel when they deem themselves flawed or deficient instead of identifying specific actions as flawed. Imposter phenomenon occurs when someone who, although successful, believes himself or herself to be a fraud who will inevitably fail. Investigation into how …
