Effective Strategies To Improve Job Satisfaction And Reduce Property Manager Turnover, Rita Khan
Effective Strategies To Improve Job Satisfaction And Reduce Property Manager Turnover, Rita Khan
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
High turnover rates among property managers disrupt service quality, increase operational costs, and diminish tenant satisfaction. Despite these negative impacts, there is limited research on effective retention strategies within the industry. Grounded in Herzberg’s two-factor theory, the purpose of this qualitative pragmatic inquiry was to explore strategies that property management leaders use to improve job satisfaction and reduce turnover. Six experienced property management leaders from the Midwestern United States who have successfully implemented retention strategies participated in this study. Data were collected through semistructured interviews and analyzed using Braun and Clark’s six-phase thematic analysis, revealing four key themes: work-life balance …

Recidivism, Reentry, And Integration In The Texas Criminal Justice System, Cierria Davis
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Reentry programs in Texas can fail to address the social and practical needs of offenders conclusively post-release. As a result, offenders may struggle with unemployment, education, stigma, mental health issues, improper shelter, and inability to meet their basic needs. The purpose of this phenomenological research qualitative study was to establish the perceived effectiveness of reentry programs in Texas and suggest possible solutions for addressing offenders’ social and practical needs post-release from prison. The research was built around cognitive transformation theory, which highlights that desistance is achieved when an ex-offender meets specific prosocial elements. Using purposeful sampling, data were collected through …

Expanding Capabilities: The Impact Of International Student Mobility On Peacebuilding, Kathleen Kirk
Dissertations
From the 2010s to 2020s international student enrollment decreased in the United States (IIE, 2024), leading to economic, intellectual, and social ramifications and notably affecting the country’s reputation as a place that fosters intercultural understanding and innovation (IIE, 2024; Song and Li, 2022; Laws and Ammigan, 2020).While international student mobility has increased since, ongoing issues such as political polarization exacerbate international education efforts to build intercultural understanding. Yet, it is such educational efforts that are crucial to nurturing peacebuilding (O’Hair and Woods, 2024; Reardon, 2001).
This dissertation employs a global survey and semi-structured interviews to investigate how international students leverage …

Nanotechnology And Nonmaterial Applications In Oil Industries In Recent Years: A Review, Fatma Ehssan, Tabarak Haider, Thamer A. Abdullah, Mustafa Hathal, Viola Somogyi, Khalida Al-Azawi
Journal of Applied Sciences and Nanotechnology
Several disciplines recognize nanotechnology's revolutionary potential, including nanoelectronics, nanobiomedicine, and nanodevices. Surprisingly, the oil and gas industry's upstream exploration and production sector has shown limited enthusiasm. Increased oil recovery and the use of unconventional resources are vital for success, but recessions, particularly during low crude oil prices in the 19th century, pose additional challenges. In response, significant attention has turned to applying nanotechnology to overcome these industrial barriers. Recently, government agencies and the global oil sector have boosted investments in exploration, drilling, production, treatment, and wastewater management. Notably, nanosensors provide precise reservoir monitoring, while nanofluids with advanced nanoparticles significantly enhance …

The effect of prior inotuzumab ozogamicin (InO) treatment on brexucabtagene autoleucel (brexu-cel) outcomes remains unclear in adults with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). We conducted a retrospective multicenter analysis of 189 patients with relapsed/refractory ALL treated with brexu-cel. Over half of the patients received InO before brexu-cel (InO exposed). InO-exposed patients were more heavily pretreated (P = .02) and frequently had active marrow disease before apheresis (P = .03). Response rate and toxicity profile after brexu-cel were comparable for InO-exposed and InO-naïve patients; however, consolidation therapy after brexu-cel response was used at a higher rate in InO-naïve patients (P = .005). …

Malignant proliferating trichilemmal tumors (MPTTs), arising from the external root sheath of hair follicles, are exceptionally rare, with limited documentation of their genetic alterations. We present a case of a 64-year-old African American woman who initially presented with a gradually enlarging nodule on her posterior scalp. An initial biopsy at an outside hospital suggested metastatic adenocarcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of an uncertain origin. A subsequent wide local excision revealed a 2.0 cm tumor demonstrating characteristic trichilemmal keratinization, characterized by an abrupt transition from the nucleated epithelium to a laminated keratinized layer, confirming MPTT. Immunohistochemistry demonstrated diffuse p53 expression, …

Childhood exposure to social disadvantage is a major risk factor for psychiatric disorders and poor developmental, educational, and occupational outcomes, presumably because adverse exposures alter the neurodevelopmental processes that contribute to risk trajectories. Yet, given the limited social mobility in the United States and other countries, childhood social disadvantage is frequently preceded by maternal social disadvantage during pregnancy, potentially altering fetal brain development during a period of high neuroplasticity through hormonal, microbiome, epigenetic, and immune factors that cross the placenta and fetal blood-brain barrier. The current study examines prenatal social disadvantage to determine whether these exposures in utero are associated …

Identifying Subject Bias In Wifi-Based Human Activity Recognition Evaluation Methods, Amany Elkelany, Robert J. Ross, Susan Mckeever
Conference papers
WiFi-based Human Activity Recognition (HAR) has emerged as a promising approach for monitoring and analysing human activities in a non-intrusive manner, leveraging WiFi signals for activity classification. Despite advancements, existing WiFi-based HAR research lacks consideration of subject (human) bias. This results in learning models performing well on individuals used in the training samples but failing to generalise to new/unseen subjects, in contrast to known good practices in machine learning. In this paper, we address this oversight directly by systematically examining the evaluation methodology for the WiFi-based HAR context. Specifically, we investigate the impact of Leave-One-Subject-Out Cross-Validation (LOSOCV) in a hybrid …

Acute liver failure results from severe hepatic injury and can lead to neurological dysfunction known as hepatic encephalopathy (HE). Thrombospondin-1 can contribute to HE by increasing cerebral edema and microglia activation in the azoxymethane (AOM) mouse model. CD47 is a receptor for TSP1 and can directly modulate inflammation in numerous disease states. However, the role of CD47 in the progression of HE is currently unknown. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess the role of CD47 in liver and brain pathology in the AOM mouse model of HE. C57Bl/6 or CD47 knockout (CD47−/−) were administered AOM to induce …

Theses and Dissertations
This applied dissertation was designed to fill the gaps on the transitional American veterans’ lived experience using their own voice. The reconstruction of an American Veteran’s identity after transitioning back into civilian life is a process with many challenges. Transitional practices often fail to help veterans to acculturate back into the civilian world. This includes the formulation of identities and associations. There is a lack of consistency in military transitional practices leading to identity loss and the formulation of mental and behavioral disorders. The aim of this study is to examine the lived experiences of veterans who have transitioned back …
