Effect Of Benzalkonium Chloride And Chlorhexidine On The Antibiotic Susceptibility Of Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, Thitinan Phutthilertmethawee, Potjanee Srimanote, Pholawat Tingpej

Asian Medical Journal and Alternative Medicine

Introduction: The transmission of Pseudomonas aeruginosa can be controlled using biocides such as benzalkonium chloride (BKC) and chlorhexidine (CHX). However, debates continue over whether biocide exposure contributes to the development of antibiotic resistance.

Objectives: To investigate the impact of BKC and CHX exposure on the development of antibiotic resistance in P. aeruginosa.

Methods: The minimal inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of P. aeruginosa PAO1 (ATCC27853) and 15 clinical isolates against BKC and CHX were determined. The bacteria were grown in media containing subinhibitory concentrations (SICs) of these biocides for five consecutive passages. MICs for ciprofloxacin, ceftazidime, and gentamicin, …

This study investigates the knowledge, skills, and confidence of medical interns in ophthalmology to inform curriculum development within Thailand’s medical schools.

Objectives: To evaluate ophthalmology competency of Thai medical interns through self-assessment questionnaires.

Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive design was used to survey 160 medical interns who graduated from Thai …

Mapping Human Rights Obligations In Investment Treaty Arbitration: Decoupling By Tribunals, Animesh Das Dec 2024

Mapping Human Rights Obligations In Investment Treaty Arbitration: Decoupling By Tribunals, Animesh Das

Indian Journal of International Economic Law

The progressive approach of investment arbitration tribunals in some recent cases represents a gradual development in reconciling human rights law and international investment law. This position finds support in recent scholarly literature, through analyses of cases such as Urbaser, Bear Creek Mining and David Aven. What if the reality is otherwise? For decades, investment arbitral tribunals have maintained a grey area governing the relationship between human rights law and international investment law. The institutional caution has resulted in the decoupling of these two normative orders. Consequently, investment treaty arbitrations face a legitimacy deficit in their ability to uphold human rights …

Infectious causes, such as bacteria (Brucella melitensis, Chlamydia abortus, Coxiella burnetii), viruses (bluetongue, border disease), and parasites (Toxoplasma gondii), are major factors in reproductive health problems, resulting in considerable livestock losses. Additionally, non-infectious factors like poor nutrition, toxins, and genetic issues also contribute to these …
