Improving Nurse Practitioner Students’ Confidence In Assessment And Treatment Vaginal Infections In Low Resource Settings, Laurie Holtzclaw
Improving Nurse Practitioner Students’ Confidence In Assessment And Treatment Vaginal Infections In Low Resource Settings, Laurie Holtzclaw
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2020 - Present
In February of 2024, eleven Florida Atlantic University (FAU) nurse practitioner (NP) students arrived in Guatemala to participate in a medical mission trip led by two clinical professors from the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing (CON) in conjunction with the non-profit organization, Nursing Heart Incorporated (NHI). The collaboration between NHI and FAU allows NP students to assess, evaluate, and treat residents living in rural and underserved communities outside of Antigua and to receive primary care and women’s health services. The conditions in these communities were austere. In previous mission trips to Guatemala, the NP students expressed interest in improving …
A Quantitative Study Of Avid Implementation And Its Sustainability In A Small Rural South Carolina School District, Brandon Lee Dixon
A Quantitative Study Of Avid Implementation And Its Sustainability In A Small Rural South Carolina School District, Brandon Lee Dixon
Doctor of Education Dissertations
According to the content found on its website, AVID has conducted studies to evaluate the academic performance of AVID students when compared to their non-AVID peers. A distinct research endeavor was undertaken to evaluate the impact of introducing AVID Elementary within a small rural school district. This study focused on student academic achievement as measured by the South Carolina College and Career Readiness (SCREADY) assessments. This study also examined the effects of attending AVID Elementary schools as students transition to middle school. An independent t test was conducted to compare the scale scores of AVID Elementary and non-AVID Elementary students …
‘Routines’ And ‘Formulaic Language’ In Conversation Analysis, Danielle Pillet-Shore
‘Routines’ And ‘Formulaic Language’ In Conversation Analysis, Danielle Pillet-Shore
Faculty Publications
Though the field of conversation analysis (CA) was founded upon examinations of interactional “routines” such as conversation openings and closings, conceptualizing and categorizing communicative phenomena as “formulaic” is anathema to CA. This chapter details how, since its inception, CA work has empirically elucidated how participants to recorded episodes of naturally occurring social interaction actively and collaboratively accomplish conversational activities as ‘routine’ or not by selecting from available action alternatives, spontaneously coordinating their selections vis-à-vis one another. Taking a multimodal CA approach, this chapter reviews state-of-the art literature on how people open and close in-person and telephone conversations, showing the immense …

Background: In the past 30 years, there has been a significant rise in coronary artery disease (CAD) and atherosclerosis, primarily attributed to dietary changes toward cholesterol-rich fast foods. Traditional research methodologies focusing on molecular biology have been insufficient in fully understanding the initiation mechanisms of these conditions. This paper reviews the literature and defines the knowledge gap for the need for a new dynamic coronary angiographic technique.
Methods: Our approach involved a comprehensive review of fluid mechanics literature to identify gaps in current CAD research. This included analyzing major works from standard physiology textbooks, fluid mechanics reviews, and bioengineering …

Peripartum Cardiomyopathy; Understanding And Improving Outcomes-A Systematic Review, Shakirat Ganiyu, Taiwo Akeem Lawal, Sarah Petrie
School of Medicine Publications
Background: Peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) presents a significant global health challenge, contributing substantially to maternal morbidity and mortality worldwide. Despite ongoing research efforts, the multifaceted nature of PPCM, encompassing genetic, environmental, and clinical factors, necessitates a comprehensive understanding to improve patient outcomes effectively.
Aims: This systematic review aims to synthesise current knowledge on PPCM aetiology, risk factors, diagnosis, therapeutic interventions, and prognostic indicators, highlighting recent advancements and potential avenues for future research and clinical management. By addressing key aspects such as genetic predispositions, environmental influences, diagnostic strategies, therapeutic modalities, and global disparities, this review seeks to provide insights that can inform …
Increasing Parent Engagement At The Middle School Level Using A Team Approach In An Urban, Title I School In Upstate South Carolina, Jaime Szalach Talkington
Increasing Parent Engagement At The Middle School Level Using A Team Approach In An Urban, Title I School In Upstate South Carolina, Jaime Szalach Talkington
Doctor of Education Dissertations
Parent engagement declines when students are in middle school. A Title I school implemented a group text team approach to improve authentic dialogue among school staff and families and included the student as an active participant in the equation. Strategically scheduled between progress reports and report cards, students were responsible for taking a picture of their current grades and sending it in a group text to their parents, teachers, and administrators. The administrator responded to the group text with the current newsletter to keep all stakeholders informed. There was a significant improvement in satisfaction of parent engagement by participants who …
Supreme Court Litigators In The Age Of Textualism, Aaron-Andrew P. Bruhl
Supreme Court Litigators In The Age Of Textualism, Aaron-Andrew P. Bruhl
Faculty Publications
The Supreme Court’s approach to statutory interpretation has moved in a textualist direction over the last several decades, but there is little systematic information on how litigators’ briefing practices have changed during this era of textualist ascendancy. This Article examines thirty-five years’ worth of party briefs (over 8,000 briefs total), explores the briefs’ use of interpretive tools (including differences across categories of attorneys), and compares the briefs to the Court’s opinions.
This examination yields several valuable findings. Although the briefs show a textualist shift, they differ from the Court’s opinions in a few ways. The magnitude of the textualist shift …

Naming, Expressive Interests, And The Law: The Implications Of Governmental Form Design, Laura A. Heymann
Naming, Expressive Interests, And The Law: The Implications Of Governmental Form Design, Laura A. Heymann
Faculty Publications
The design of governmental forms can result in restrictions on the ability of individuals to submit truthful personal naming choices, such as when a form field has character limitations or does not accept diacritics. In some instances, form design operationalizes government policy. But in other instances, form design can itself create law by limiting the ability to submit accurate names on the front end. Awareness of the legal implications of form design is critically important. A more inclusive and accurate approach toward the legal documentation of naming choices means that forms should adapt to people, not the other way around.
