Investigating The Uncertainties Of Forecasting Ne Cold Season Precipitation In Numerical Weather Prediction Models, Yanna Chen Jan 2024

Investigating The Uncertainties Of Forecasting Ne Cold Season Precipitation In Numerical Weather Prediction Models, Yanna Chen

Electronic Theses & Dissertations (2024 - present)

A major winter storm on March 2, 2018, posed significant challenges in predicting precipitation type (P-type) in the northeast U.S., particularly the Hudson Valley. While National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts predicted a mix of rain and snow, observations showed predominantly snow, with errors in snow depth forecasts of 8-12 inches near Albany.

This study used the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model to investigate how model physics (microphysics, cumulus, boundary layer, and radiation schemes) and domain configuration influenced snow depth predictions. Results revealed significant sensitivities to cumulus and radiation schemes, as well as the vertical resolution in the middle troposphere. …

Enhancing A Computer Model To Evaluate Rainwater Harvesting And Reuse Strategies For Landscape Irrigation Under Current And Future Climate Conditions, Siyu Li

Electronic Theses & Dissertations (2024 - present)

Urbanization and climate change have detrimental impacts on water quantity and quality. Rainwater harvesting/reuse for landscape irrigation with rain barrels/cisterns, which can assist urban hydrological/water quality restoration and provide a beneficial resource for irrigating landscape, holds significant potentials in urban areas under current and future climates. However, the impacts of rainwater harvesting/reuse strategies for landscape irrigation under a changing climate need to be comprehensively evaluated to assist decision-making. In addition, a comprehensive tool is needed to help stakeholders develop efficient strategies to harvest rainwater for landscape irrigation with rain barrels/cisterns.

To address the needs, the simulation of the sub-daily hydrological …

Everyone’S A Critic: Processes Of Legitimation In The Video Essay Genre On Youtube, Kendall Nagi

Electronic Theses & Dissertations (2024 - present)

The rise of video essays as a popular genre on YouTube is a notable development in the media criticism and intellectual work in online spaces. Theorization on criticism as intellectual work and the performance of expertise and credibility is well developed within sociology (Alexander 2004; Jacobs & Townsley 2017) but esearch on YouTube specifically is quite limited within the social sciences. Most existing research on the video essay genre comes from media studies and communications scholarship (McWhirter 2022; Smarandache 2021; Sylvia & Moody 2022). This study seeks to understand how creators working in the video essay genre, and more specifically, …

Grounded in conceptual change theory (knowledge-in-pieces perspective), the study explored the five teachers’ CRP conceptual change trajectories as indicated by their definitions and enactments of the pedagogy over time. From the epistemological perspective, the findings presented how teachers reflected, refined, and revised their naïve knowledge of CRP …

Transcription And Translation Regulation Of Germ Cell To Maternal Transition, Noor Kotb Jan 2024

Transcription And Translation Regulation Of Germ Cell To Maternal Transition, Noor Kotb

Electronic Theses & Dissertations (2024 - present)

In sexually reproducing organisms, the process of gametogenesis produces mature eggs and sperms required for fertilization to occur. The egg's quality is crucial for the healthy development of the next generation, making oogenesis a tightly regulated process with multiple benchmarks. To investigate the intricacies of oogenesis, we utilized the Drosophila oogenesis system as our primary model. This choice was motivated by several factors. Firstly, the process of egg development in Drosophila is conserved across species, making it a valuable proxy for understanding oogenesis in other organisms, including humans. Secondly, Drosophila melanogaster has long been established as a powerhouse in genetic …

Stakeholders’ Participation In Pcaob Audit Standard Setting, Xiaoshuai Yang Jan 2024

Stakeholders’ Participation In Pcaob Audit Standard Setting, Xiaoshuai Yang

Electronic Theses & Dissertations (2024 - present)

Lobbying is an integral part of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board’s standard-setting process. Although the PCAOB has been drafting auditing standards for over 20 years, there is still much to learn about how stakeholder behavior in submitting comment letters to the PCAOB varies by interest group, comment period (concept release, proposal, and reproposal), the stakeholder’s position on the proposal, arguments used, and emotional strategies. This paper examines PCAOB Docket 034, which proposed audit report reforms, including the auditor’s disclosure of critical audit matters (CAMs). There was strong stakeholder participation and conflicting opinions when this standard was under discussion. To …

Electronic Theses & Dissertations (2024 - present)

Advanced semiconductor devices are moving toward 3D geometries due to scaling demands and performance requirements. Nondestructive metrology necessary for process control of 3D structures must be advanced to facilitate their transition from technology development to high volume manufacturing. Thin film metrology using Mueller Matrix Spectroscopic Ellipsometry (MMSE) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD) film metrology, as well as patterned structure metrology using Optical Critical Dimension (OCD) and X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) techniques have proved capable of measuring the Si/ Si(1-x)Ge(x) superlattices and gate-all-around (GAA) transistor test structures. Because these techniques are indirect, their limitations associated with superlattice device structures need …

Developing And Implementing An Evangelistic Vision: A Study Of Four Different Cohorts In The Birmingham, Alabama Area, Albert Eugene Frazier

Doctor of Ministry Projects

Problem

The foundation of the Seventh-day Adventist church is based on principles of Holy Spirit-inspired vision and execution, established on the example of Jesus who directly implemented spiritual graces in ministry. Within Birmingham First Seventh-day Adventist church, pastoral observation revealed a disconnect in developing and implementing vision and the spiritual graces to achieve evangelistic activity within church leadership and laity. This divide has resulted in a decrease in effective evangelism.

Method

A program focusing on vision development/implementation and teaching/implementation of the spiritual graces was developed utilizing a combination of presentations and practical applications. The project lasted from May 2022 through …

Data-Driven Communicative Behaviour Generation: A Survey, Nurziya Oralbayeva, Amir Aly, Anara Sandygulova, Tony Belpaeme

School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics

The development of data-driven behaviour generating systems has recently become the focus of considerable attention in the fields of human–agent interaction and human–robot interaction. Although rule-based approaches were dominant for years, these proved inflexible and expensive to develop. The difficulty of developing production rules, as well as the need for manual configuration to generate artificial behaviours, places a limit on how complex and diverse rule-based behaviours can be. In contrast, actual human–human interaction data collected using tracking and recording devices makes humanlike multimodal co-speech behaviour generation possible using machine learning and specifically, in recent years, deep learning. This survey provides …

Women And Trade In Africa: A Case For Mainstreaming Gender In The Implementation Of The African Continental Free Trade Agreement (Afcfta), Tsotang Tsietsi

Indian Journal of International Economic Law

This article seeks to determine the extent to which the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) and its protocols accord attention to the barriers and opportunities that African women face in intra-African trade. It discusses the considerable role of African women traders, for example, in agriculture, micro, small and medium enterprises, and in informal cross border trade. It questions whether, in support of their contributions in these sectors, gender has been adequately mainstreamed in the AfCFTA legal framework. Through its analysis of the contents of the instruments, it argues that there was little prioritization of women in the agreement and …

Ethnic Discrimination And Suicidal Ideation Among Latinx Women., Lucas Torres, Sara Kohlbeck, Farah Harb, Jaclyn Pachicano, Lisa Edwards, Andrew T. Schramm

College of Education Faculty Research and Publications

Suicide and suicidal ideation are critical public health concerns with national estimates showing dramatic increases in recent years among already marginalized communities, including Latinx women. Unfortunately, minimal research has examined ethnic discrimination and suicidal ideation while accounting for cultural values among Latinx samples. The purpose of the current study was to determine whether the role of depression symptoms as a mediator of the relationship between ethnic discrimination and suicidal ideation was conditional upon the level of cultural values endorsed, namely, gender roles and family support. The sample included 198 Latinx women from the community who completed a series of self-report …

Aboriginal Title, Private Property Interests, And Statutes Of Limitation, Kent Mcneil

All Papers

A major unresolved issue in Canadian law is the status of third-party interests that were allegedly created on Aboriginal title lands in non-treaty areas of Canada. The legal validity of these interests could depend on when and where they were granted by the Crown. Pre-Confederation Crown grants would have been subject to the Royal Proclamation of 1763 and to the limited authority delegated to colonial governments, but not to the division of powers in the Constitution Act, 1867, whereas post-Confederation grants would be subject to the latter. Grants after, but not before, April 17, 1982, would be subject to the …
