With the Biden Administration’s national goal of net-zero emission by 2050 and Rhode Island’s state goal of carbon-neutrality by 2035, progressive steps towards renewable energy goal are critical. As the state adopt more renewable energy practices, public and private organizations voice concern over offshore wind farm projects and their adherence to local, state, and national laws. Through extensive research it has been determined that many of these claims are misguided. However, this skepticism emphasizes key issues regarding the transparency of the permitting process. Steps towards streaming and uniting the legal processes of wind farm construction, such as the COLLABORATE Act, …

The Pursuit Of Peace: Adlai Stevenson’S Impact On The Cuban Missile Crisis, Alexandra M. Buonanno Jan 2024

The Pursuit Of Peace: Adlai Stevenson’S Impact On The Cuban Missile Crisis, Alexandra M. Buonanno

Pell Scholars and Senior Theses

This paper explores the idea that Adlai Stevenson was a more significant member of the Executive Committee of the National Security Council and voice for peace than given credit for. It includes the betrayal of Stevenson by JFK during the Bay of Pigs fiasco and how many members of the Kennedy administration felt Stevenson was too naive and weak to be an ambassador to the United Nations during the Cold War. This papers seeks to prove that without Adlai Stevenson the Cuban Missile Crisis would have ended horrifically rather than peacefully.

The Early Warning Of Financial Failurefor Iraqi Banks Based On Robust Adaptive Lasso Logistic Regression, Hassan S. Uraibi, Aqeel Jaafar Abbas

Iraqi Journal for Computer Science and Mathematics

It is wellknown that there are many mathematical financial failure models that have been proposed in the financial literature for specific stock markets. Some researchers are not aware these mathematical models were constructed to be fitted for that market data, not for other markets. Iraq stock market exchange is one of these markets in which the researchers used imported models such as Kida, Sherrod, Altman, and others to predict financial failure. Therefore, the development of a financial failure warning model for banks has become very crucial for the Iraqi bank sector in the stockmarket exchange. Unfortunately, there is no clear …

Settlement As Construct: Defining And Counting Party Resolution In Federal District Court, Charlotte S. Alexander, Nathan Dahlberg, Anne M. Tucker

Scholarly Works

Most civil cases settle. Yet generating a definitive settlement rate presents complex definitional and empirical problems, both in what should count as a settlement and how to count it. This Essay makes three contributions to better understanding and defining settlement. First, we propose a flexible, empirically informed, operationalizable definition of settlement as party resolution. Second, we exploit a new federal litigation data source to count party resolutions using machine learning models trained on 11 million docket sheet entries. Third, we offer new findings on party resolution frequency and distribution in the federal courts. Settlement is more widely and differently deployed …
