Paradoxical Leadership: A Review Of The Literature, Kelli Muilenburg Dec 2024

Paradoxical Leadership: A Review Of The Literature, Kelli Muilenburg

MAGIS: Student Development Journal

This literature review examines a growing field of research on paradoxical leadership, the leadership style that stands against a pervasive culture of fear, aggression, and criticism and instead highlights other power- inducing characteristics. Specifically, the review summarizes material that supports the growing requirement for such fundamental characteristics as vulnerability, authenticity, heart, and love in today’s and tomorrow’s leaders.

Understanding Confusion: A Case Study Of Training A Machine Model To Predict And Interpret Consensus From Volunteer Labels, Ramanakumar Sankar, Kameswara Mantha, Cooper Nesmith, Lucy Fortson, Shawn R. Brueshaber, Candice Hansen-Koharcheck, Glenn Orton

Michigan Tech Publications

Citizen science has become a valuable and reliable method for interpreting and processing big datasets, and is vital in the era of ever-growing data volumes. However, there are inherent difficulties in the generating labels from citizen scientists, due to the inherent variability between the members of the crowd, leading to variability in the results. Sometimes, this is useful — such as with serendipitous discoveries, which corresponds to rare/unknown classes in the data — but it might also be due to ambiguity between classes. The primary issue is then to distinguish between the intrinsic variability in the dataset and the uncertainty …

Orbital Thinking: Planetary Orbit As A Model For Neurodivergent Thought Experiences In Animation, Thomas Labow Dec 2024

Orbital Thinking: Planetary Orbit As A Model For Neurodivergent Thought Experiences In Animation, Thomas Labow

Honors Projects

As an artist diagnosed with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD, the aim of my research is to artistically explore neurodivergent experiences using gravity-assisted space flight as a visual metaphor for episodic memory and the pivot between correlated ideas. “Orbit of Attention” is a short animated film that visualizes interconnected mental processes through the use of a character-driven narrative. The creative choice of depicting ideas as planets is inspired by the gravity-assisted flight path of the Voyagers’ grand tour of the solar system. In visualizing unconventional thought processes, “orbital thinking” was used to model episodic memory. As a research project, this film …

Impact Of Saf Blends On U.S. Airline Profits, Hui Shan Soh, Matthew Yang An Chan, Joyce Nayome Odulio Valerio, Sutton Adam Dec 2024

Impact Of Saf Blends On U.S. Airline Profits, Hui Shan Soh, Matthew Yang An Chan, Joyce Nayome Odulio Valerio, Sutton Adam

Introduction to Research Methods RSCH 202

IATA's 2050 net-zero emissions target is expected to pose significant financial challenges for airlines due to the high implementation costs and the expense of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). To remain competitive, this research advocates for the gradual adoption of SAF through a blended approach with Traditional Aviation Fuel (TAF). Incrementally increasing the SAF blend over time allows airlines to recover initial implementation costs while progressively raising the SAF percentage. This research aims to develop a formula to help airlines calculate the ideal SAF-to-TAF blend ratio for maintaining profitability. Key factors considered in the formula include SAF and TAF prices, carbon …

Senior Voice Recital Program, Emily M. Montelongo Dec 2024

Senior Voice Recital Program, Emily M. Montelongo

Honors Capstones

To meet the final requirements of my degree in Music Education, I organized, prepared, and performed my senior vocal recital. In addition to this, I completed my capstone by writing an additional version of my program with added program notes, elaborative information, and translations of pieces that are not in English. This program highlights composers Henry Purcell, Franz Schubert, Amy Beach, Leonard Bernstein, Manuel De Falla, Léo Delibes, and Jacques Offenbach. I completed extensive research on their lives, formulating this knowledge into biographies. I also included more detailed information on all of the pieces sung so audience members could have …

4th Annual International Conference Proceedings: Rethinking Economics In The Contemporary World, Centre For Business And Economic Research (Cber), School Of Economics And Social Sciences (Sess)

Conference Proceedings

The School of Economics and Social Sciences (SESS), through the Department of Economics and the Center for Business and Economics Research (CBER), opens the call for papers for its fourth international conference: Rethinking Economics in the Contemporary World.

The development of technology, the immediate effects of climate change, complex geopolitical situations, substantial migration, rapid urbanization, increasing income inequality, the emergence of digital economies, and global health crises have all amplified uncertainties and accelerated changes in the economic landscape, underscoring the imperative for better insights and new perspectives in economics profession. This year's conference recognizes the new paradigms and shifts in …

CANI-net (Collaborative Artful Narrative Inquiry Network) has evolved over the last thirty years from being a research center and network at the University of Bristol to holding online monthly “open inquiry space” sessions attended by scholars, educators, and artists around the world. The sessions are flexible, encouraging the presentation of work in progress, ideas just emerging, middling, in a warm, friendly, supportive atmosphere with students and academics and others engaging, collaborating, and offering feedback to one another. Each session usually offers the opportunity for those present to write into the shared space, and to then share that writing. In the …

Enhancement Of Ambient Air Quality Index Forecasting Using Optimized Ensemble Model, Vanitha M Dec 2024

Enhancement Of Ambient Air Quality Index Forecasting Using Optimized Ensemble Model, Vanitha M

Theses and Dissertations

Forecasting ambient air quality is essential for environmental sustainability and public health, especially in heavily populated regions such as China, India, and the United States where air pollution remains a serious concern. Traditional forecasting models often struggle to accurately represent air quality data because of its complex patterns and nonlinear interactions. To address these challenges and improve forecast performance, this research proposes a comprehensive strategy that integrates parallel heterogeneous ensemble modeling with Bayesian optimization.

The study begins with a seasonal machine learning–based imputation technique (SeasonalMLImpute) designed to handle missing data in meteorological and air quality parameters. This method is evaluated …
