The Hoffmann sign or reflex is commonly taught as part of the physical examination to detect abstract upper motor neuron pathology. We present a case of a patient with congenital spinal stenosis and a fall who had a positive Hoffmann sign as the result of a central cord syndrome. The materials contain a video of this physical exam finding and briefly review its history, reliability and clinical utility.

Purpose: To investigate how microgreens educational programming impacts the relationship between nutrition attitudes and healthy eating habits. Methods: A three-part workshop in Philadelphia, PA that consisted of a pre-survey, presentation, and microgreens kit assembly session was held. A post-survey was distributed electronically 1 week after the event. Results: 9 participants voluntarily attended the workshop and completed the pre-survey, and one-third of the participants submitted post-survey feedback. Participants were middle-aged, Black women from the Allegheny West neighborhood of Philadelphia, a predominantly (97.5%) Black neighborhood. The survey showed microgreens were well-received and suited for urban communities with little space and cold weather. …

Objective: In 2019 the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) called for increased access to Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (MBS). To understand adolescent weight loss programs offering MBS in Pennsylvania, a survey was completed.

Methods: Adolescent weight loss centers in Pennsylvania offering MBS were identified using the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) on-line directory and Google search. Phone interviews were conducted with the director of each program.

Results: Eight programs were identified. Operations were performed in seven adult hospitals. Six had Comprehensive Adolescent Accreditation through the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). A total …

The study of modern cave deposits forming under near isotopic equilibrium conditions can potentially help disentangle the processes influencing the oxygen isotope system and suitability of stalagmites as archives of past hydrological or thermal changes. We used cave monitoring to evaluate the impact of kinetic isotope fractionation and assess the conditions under which modern cave carbonates form in the Caumont cave and quarry system, located in Normandy, northwest France. Assistive Technology (AT) is recognized as a valuable tool for supporting their access to the curriculum. However, many educators lack experience and competence in AT implementation. This study examines the effects of a modified technology course on preservice teachers' preparedness for and perceptions of AT in inclusive classrooms. We modified Instructional Technology Course, which is mandatory for pre-service teachers across programs. After receiving the modified technology course, pre-service teachers show a significant improvement in their AT competence and a positive shift regarding inclusion.

Interaction between spinning composite structures of quarks is considered. In simple variants of the quark structures, one basic elementary particle of charge of magnitude |e|/3 is on the axis of rotation and several basic particles of an opposite sign are revolving in the circular orbit about the axis. Each charge in the structure contributes to the electric field and electric potential around the structure. But only revolving basic particles contribute to the spin and to the magnetic moment of the structure. Apicomplexan parasites possess specialized secretory organelles called rhoptries, micronemes, and dense granules that play a vital role in host infection. In this study, we demonstrate that TgREMIND, a protein found in Toxoplasma gondii, is necessary for the biogenesis of rhoptries and dense granules. TgREMIND contains a Fes-CIP4 homology-Bin/Amphiphysin/Rvs (F-BAR) domain, which binds to membrane phospholipids, as well as a novel uncharacterized domain that we have named REMIND (regulator of membrane-interacting domain). Both the F-BAR domain and the REMIND are crucial for TgREMIND functions. When TgREMIND is depleted, there is a significant decrease in the abundance of dense granules and abnormal …

Thromboangiitis obliterans, often referred to as Buerger's disease, is a vascular disease that causes chronic inflammatory conditions, edema, and vascular obstruction due to blood clots. In Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital (CMGH), sympathectomy is a rarely done procedure. This evidence–based case report aimed to prove the effectiveness of sympathectomy for Buerger's Disease to reduce pain.

Introduction. In a study spanning 2008 to 2012 at Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital (CMGH) Jakarta, 668 cases of thyroid cancer were identified among 18,216 cancer cases. Globally, the papillary subtype is prevalent, and prior research indicates a link between thyroid hormone changes and thyroid carcinoma risk. To improve surgical care, this study aims to find the association between thyroid hormone levels and histological subtypes in thyroid carcinoma patients.

Owls' silent flight is commonly attributed to their special wing morphology combined with wingbeat kinematics. One of these special morphological features is known as the leading-edge serrations: rigid miniature hook-like patterns found at the primaries of the wings' leading-edge. It has been hypothesized that leading-edge serrations function as a passive flow control mechanism, impacting the aerodynamic performance.
