Introduction. Invasive fungal infection (IFI) is increasingly common in patients at risk, especially those with impaired immune response. In Indonesia, there is currently a low prevalence of IFI which may be influenced by challenges in diagnosis. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and clinical characteristics of IFI patients in Dr. Hasan Sadikin Hospital in Bandung, Indonesia.
Methods. This cross-sectional study was conducted at Dr. Hasan Sadikin Hospital. Data were collected using medical records of IFI patients diagnosed between 2020 and 2022 which were selected using total sampling method. Demographic data, clinical symptoms, radiological appearance, and laboratory results …

Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a hemoglobinopathy inherited in an autosomal recessive pattern arising from a mutation causing substitution of valine for glutamic acid in the sixth amino acid of the β-globin chain. The clinical manifestation of SCD varies from acute pain, chronic anemia, to multi-organ infarct and failure. SCD is known to be rare in Indonesia. However, we recently encountered a SCD patient presenting with recurrent pain and hypesthesia since a year ago. The diagnosis of SCD in this patient was established based on the results of peripheral blood smear and hemoglobin electrophoresis. The patient had previously been diagnosed …

Osteoporosis is a metabolic bone disease that is caused by a decreased amount of bone mass, and microarchitectural damage to bone tissue that affects the bone to break easily. Osteoporosis can be divided into primary and secondary etiologies. Vertebral, hip, distal radius, and proximal humerus are the most common predilection of fracture complication due to osteoporosis. The diagnosis of osteoporotic fractures is established based on the identification of risk factors, general clinical manifestations, specific manifestation from each fracture predilection, and advanced examinations, including radiology imaging and dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry. The purpose of osteoporotic fractures management in elderly is a stable …

Efficient disaster response hinges on the rapid identification of damaged structures post-natural disasters. This literature review surveys diverse solutions, emphasizing merits, drawbacks, and performance metrics. Techniques such as deep learning with pre-trained models, transfer learning with CNNs, and incremental learning with SVMs are scrutinized for their computational demands and adaptability. Ensemble learning, CNNs, attention-based models, transformer networks, and hybrid approaches offer distinct advantages like heightened accuracy and resource efficiency. Challenges, including computational complexity and cost, accompany these methods. Additionally, we propose a framework termed Quantum-Enhanced Disaster Assessment and Management (QuanDAM) which encompasses the usage of Artificial Intelligence (AI) predictive modelling, …

Respiratory infection caused by the bacterial species is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality globally, especially in immunocompromised people. All available diagnostic techniques for pneumonia detection are relatively limited due to time-consuming stages, selectivity, and the need for invasive procedures. To overcome the current challenges, we developed an analytical technique, utilizing a carbon mesh-supported thin film solid-phase microextraction (TF-SPME) technique coupled to gas chromatography-mass spectrometry for monitoring of pathogen-specific metabolites from bacterial culture media of E. coli bacterial strain. We exposed the TF-SPME device from the headspace of the culture media of the bacteria and extracted the metabolites during …

Cross-Language Information Retrieval (CLIR) is responsible for retrieving information stored in a language different from the language of the query provided by the user. Some translation methods commonly used in CLIR are Dictionary, Parallel corpora, Comparable corpora, Machine translator, Ontology, and Transitive-based. The query must be translated to the target language, followed by preprocessing and calculating the similarity between the query and all documents in the corpus. The problem is the time and accuracy of query translation. Moreover, the queries are not written as complete sentences according to certain language rules. Stemming, for example, every language has its own method. …
