Organ-Specific Characteristics Govern The Relationship Between Histone Code Dynamics And Transcriptional Reprogramming During Nitrogen Response In Tomato, Russell Julian, Ryan M. Patrick, Ying Li
Purdue University Libraries Open Access Publishing Fund
Environmental stimuli trigger rapid transcriptional reprogramming of gene networks. These responses occur in the context of the local chromatin landscape, but the contribution of organ-specific dynamic chromatin modifications in responses to external signals remains largely unexplored. We treated tomato seedlings with a supply of nitrate and measured the genome-wide changes of four histone marks, the permissive marks H3K27ac, H3K4me3, and H3K36me3 and repressive mark H3K27me3, in shoots and roots separately, as well as H3K9me2 in shoots. Dynamic and organ-specific histone acetylation and methylation were observed at functionally relevant gene loci. Integration of transcriptomic and epigenomic datasets generated from the same …

Identifying The Drivers Of Pollen Limitation In Apples (Malus Domestica) Within The Urban Orchards Of St. Louis, Mo, Jordan Hathaway
Theses
The human population is projected to continue growing throughout the remainder of the 21st century. Thus, agricultural production will need to increase drastically in order to ensure global food security. Management strategies aimed at enhancing crop pollination by promoting pollinator diversity have shown potential as an environmentally sustainable method of increasing yields. Optimizing the design and implementation of these strategies will require us to expand our understanding of the processes which influence crop pollen limitation. In this study, we examined pollen limitation in self-incompatible apple trees (Malus domestica) within urban orchards located in St. Louis, MO. In our first field …

Landlord's attempt to evict former owner relying on a licensee holdover claim failed due to the absence of a valid license agreement. Inaction upon acquiring property doesn't create a license, and even if one existed, it became invalid when the property transferred to a successor-in-interest. The landlord's proper eviction remedy was under RPAPL 713(5), not licensee holdover provisions. Key Legal Points: 1. Lack of exclusive possession by former owner negates a license. 2. Successor-in-interest seeking eviction of former owner cannot use licensee holdover provision. 3. Legislature, not courts, must address potential gaps in eviction procedures for successors-in-interest.

In the US, racial disparities in hospital outcomes are well documented. We explored whether race was associated with all-cause in-hospital mortality and intensive care unit (ICU) admission among COVID-19 patients in California. This was a retrospective analysis of California State Inpatient Database during 2020. Hospitalizations ≥ 18 years of age for COVID-19 were included. Cox proportional hazards with mixed effects were used for associations between race and in-hospital mortality. Logistic regression was used for the association between race and ICU admission. Among 87,934 COVID-19 hospitalizations, majority were Hispanics (56.5%), followed by White (27.3%), Asian, Pacific Islander, Native American (9.9%), and …

In this HP proceeding, tenants sought to correct housing maintenance code violations and obtain civil penalties against the landlords. The court granted the tenants' motion for an order to correct the violations, directing the landlords to rectify them by a specified date. However, the motion for civil penalties was denied without prejudice to renew, as triable issues of fact existed regarding the landlords' liability. The court emphasized the need to resolve issues related to access and cited a consent order in a related action, extending the deadline for corrections.

Thunderfort is a tabletop roleplaying game (TTRPG) that utilizes both synchronous and asynchronous communication in both its rules and its fictitious setting. This project seeks to provide a unique TTRPG experience that is partially or fully digital, played out via text chatting and digital dice rolling. Such a game is also intended to be enjoyed by players without said players needing to worry about game session scheduling conflicts, since a large part of the game is played via digital, asynchronous communication. The full, most up-to-date text can also be accessed at thunderfort.lsflegal.com.

Raf-1, a multifunctional kinase, regulates various cellular processes, including cell proliferation, apoptosis, and migration, by phosphorylating MAPK/ERK kinase and interacting with specific kinases. Cellular Raf-1 activity is intricately regulated through pathways involving the binding of regulatory proteins, direct phosphorylation, and the ubiquitin-proteasome axis. In this study, we demonstrate that PHI-1, an endogenous inhibitor of protein phosphatase-1 (PP1), plays a pivotal role in modulating Raf-1 proteostasis within cells. Knocking down endogenous PHI-1 in HEK293 cells using siRNA resulted in increased cell proliferation and reduced apoptosis. This heightened cell proliferation was accompanied by a 15-fold increase in ERK1/2 phosphorylation. Importantly, the observed …
