Due to the limited bandwidth and reliability of non-invasive electroencephalography (EEG)-based brain–computer interface (BCI) systems, it is difficult to control a six-degree-of-freedom (6-DoF) robotic arm using such a system. This thesis proposes a multimodal BCI system for controlling a robotic arm that divides control into three stages: initiating the task through right-hand motor imagery (MI), selecting an object of interest from a real scene using steady-state visual evoked potentials (SSVEPs) and webcam-based eye tracking, and autonomously performing the pick-and-drop task using a WidowX 250 robotic arm. Ten years after the publication of a manifesto attempting to describe what digital scholarship could do for and within libraries, some of the original authors reflect on the progress of the call-to-action. This article describes areas in which the integration of digital scholarship activities as core parts of librarianship has and has not become commonplace and traces larger-scale developments in the academy and global knowledge landscape that have contributed to the accuracy of the predictions made in 2017.

Net-zero commitments are pushing higher education institutions to measure their environmental impact more rigorously. RIT Dubai has aligned its sustainability targets with the UAE Net Zero 2050 initiative, and earlier greenhouse gas reporting identified commuting and electricity as the campus’s dominant emission sources, with transportation modelled only from city-level estimates. This thesis develops an individual-level, use-phase Life Cycle Assessment of transportation at RIT Dubai across the entire campus community of 2,795 members in seven segments: local and international students, faculty and staff, and the contracted service staff who travel to campus daily. This thesis addresses this issue by proposing an interactive spatial information system designed to dynamically display, and contextualize architectural heritage in real time. Designed as a global framework, Failaka Island in Kuwait serves as the primary case study, driven by a personal cultural connection and the need to bridge the island's post-war generational disconnect. This study assesses interior-oriented envelope retrofits based on Passive House principles, applied to the British Residency of Hyderabad, now called Telangana Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam since 2022, and to Osmania University College for Women (OUCW) for the prior 70 years. This Grade 1-listed building was constructed in several phases starting in the 1790s, then remodeled and extended under Resident James Achilles Kirkpatrick from 1798 to 1805 and completed around 1808. Models deployed outside controlled settings encounter inputs unlike their training data and may generate outputs unsupported by what they learned. A reliable system should recognize these cases. Out-of-distribution detection and hallucination detection are usually studied separately, but both depend on the same condition: the model's representation must retain the information that distinguishes an anomalous case from an ordinary one. If training never captures that information, or later suppresses it, no downstream detector can recover it. We study this condition from two complementary perspectives. It is generally believed that most massive galaxies host supermassive black holes (SMBHs) at their centers, with masses ranging from 10^6 -10^{10} M☉. During phases of rapid accretion, these SMBHs emit electromagnetic radiation across the entire spectrum, resulting in luminous active galactic nuclei (AGN). An open question is whether SMBHs can grow to exceed 10^{10} M☉ through continued accretion and successive mergers, potentially forming hypermassive black holes (HMBHs).  The broad line region (BLR) consists of dense gas clouds located within sub-parsec distances of the central SMBH. The gravitational-wave signal of a compact binary carries the imprint of its environment. In a galactic nucleus, the tidal field of the central supermassive black hole (SMBH) drives Kozai--Lidov (KL) oscillations in the eccentricity of an orbiting binary, modulating the emitted signal. As a proof of concept, previous work showed that for an IMBH--stellar-mass black hole binary, this modulation is detectable with LISA out to about a megaparsec (Deme et al. 2020). The interpretation of gravitational wave sources depends on the specific choice of model used to interpret signals. For example, previous analyses of GWTC-3 event candidates using the SEOBNRv4PHM, IMRPhenomXPHM, and NRSur7dq4 models have arrived at sometimes notably di!erent conclusions about event properties. Unfortunately, subtle analysis settings and code di!erences can also produce notable di!erences in event properties. Gravitational waves opened a new window to study the properties of compact binary systems, providing insights into their astrophysical formation and evolution. Initially, population studies relied on mass and spin distributions to distinguish between isolated, dynamical, and hierarchical merger channels; however, orbital eccentricity offers a complementary probe of binary formation scenarios. Cancer survivors frequently experience occupational performance challenges during early survivorship, and telehealth may offer a feasible approach to deliver interventions during this period.

Methods

This pilot randomized controlled trial included 17 adults in the first year following breast or prostate cancer diagnosis, assigned to the ActiveHeal Cancer Program (ACP) or a control group. ACP consisted of six 75‑minute occupation‑focused virtual group sessions and weekly follow‑up telephone calls delivered by occupational therapists over 12 weeks. Control participants attended three brief virtual meetings without therapeutic intervention. Feasibility and acceptability were assessed using validated measures, attendance, and completion rates. The overall goal of the project was to provide the farm with a modernized and functional market space. Psychosocial functioning is a central component of liver transplant evaluation, yet less is known about how cognitive factors, such as stress mindset, relate to transplant readiness. The present study examined the association between stress mindset and psychosocial risk, as well as its relationship with depressive symptoms, anxiety, and perceived stress among patients undergoing liver transplant evaluation. Patients included 62 adults completing standard pre-transplant assessment measures, including the Stress Mindset Measure–Specific (SMM-S), Stanford Integrated Psychosocial Assessment for Transplantation (SIPAT), Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7), and Perceived Stress Scale (PSS). This dissertation examines how generational trauma and chronic stress may relate to gut health and mood outcomes among Black women. Using a literature review design, this work brings together research on intergenerational trauma, gendered racism, Superwoman Schema, weathering, allostatic load, mood disorders, reproductive health disparities, and the microbiota-gut-brain axis. The central argument is that depression, anxiety, gastrointestinal symptoms, fatigue, reproductive vulnerability, and healthcare mistrust should not be understood as fully separate concerns when they may be shaped by shared stress conditions. This pilot study examined associations between self-reported moral distress, state distress, combat exposure, deployment history, and maximum pupil reactivity among veterans diagnosed with PTSD. Participants viewed neutral and morally relevant images while pupil responses were recorded using eye-tracking technology. Self-report measures included moral distress severity, exposure to potentially morally injurious events, Subjective Units of Distress Scale (SUDS) ratings, total deployments, number of combat deployments, and Combat Exposure Scale scores. Contemporary socio-political discourses on global migration often risk misrepresenting migrant experiences by framing them mainly through the language of humanitarianism, inclusion, and identity. While these frameworks foreground protection and belonging, they may inadvertently obscure the institutional and political structures that regulate, differentiate, and expose migrants to uneven forms of precarity. In this paper, therefore, I examine Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's Dream Count to explore the migrant condition as one shaped by migrants’ everyday encounters with space, law, labor, and political belonging.
