Alienation In Life And Film, Chase A. Hawkins
Alienation In Life And Film, Chase A. Hawkins
Masters Theses
The thesis begins by detailing the philosophy motivating the plot of the screenplay, which is the majority of the work. A short critical paper explores the way Wes Anderson uses dialogue to create or avoid emotional moments in some of his more complicated works.
Beyond Sunday Morning: Communal Singing And Corporate Identity, Justin Aaron Mckinney
Beyond Sunday Morning: Communal Singing And Corporate Identity, Justin Aaron Mckinney
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Corporate worship singing long aided congregants in growing their communal identity and theological understanding of biblical principles. While modern singing trends help congregants grow their theological understanding, modern church singing trends suggest songs are not encouraging growth in communal identity mimicking cultural values of individualism in corporate worship song lyrics. Historically, individual first-person pronouns represented the individuals alongside the rest of the church; but with a rise in cultural individualism, first-person pronouns now represent individuals independent of one another. This individualistic focus can lead congregants to conclude they do not need the church and to remove themselves from the body …
Distinguishing Inauthenticities: The Role Of Personal Storytelling In Engaging With Equality, Diversity And Inclusion In Education, Susie Miles
Turning Toward Being: The Journal of Ontological Inquiry in Education
This article challenges the traditional methodology of facilitating conceptual discussions about equality and diversity issues in training workshops, which has resulted in slow progress towards promoting more inclusive cultures in universities. The author puts forward the approach of ontological inquiry which enables individuals to look at and access their own tacit, unconscious, and inherited ways of being and acting. This approach, it is argued, has the potential to strengthen the way in which issues of power and injustice are addressed in universities. The author adopts storytelling as a pedagogical device to expose and invite inquiry about privilege, injustice and the …

Differentiating Modernity (The System Of White Supremacy) And Generating Otherwise Worlds As Publicly Engaged Scholars: What’S Ontological Inquiry Got To Do With It?, Carolyne J. White, Arturo E. Osorio, Tim K. Eatman, Margaret J. Weiss
Turning Toward Being: The Journal of Ontological Inquiry in Education
Seeking an answer to Tina Turner’s refrain, “What’s Love Got to Do with It?” this article is a rebellious, messy, place-based and deeply collaborative conversation. We draw upon the legacy of theatre and social critique and adopt the literary present tense to evoke a brave intimate space for imagining possibilities beyond the academic conventions of the present epistemological order. We seek to illuminate how ontological inquiry may provoke powerful access to generating new worldmaking for climate justice, particularly when one is being a publicly engaged scholar. Why new worldmaking? Within this unprecedented time of racial reckoning, war, climate catastrophe and …

"A Special Cause Of Corrupting Their Youth": The Long History Of Censorship, Hysteria, And The Representation Of Queer Desire In Literature, Kenia Torres
Student Theses and Dissertations
This thesis will focus on queer representation in literature, going all the way back to the works of Milton and Shakespeare and include an exploration of contemporary text Gender Queer by Maia Kobabe. I will trace queer representation back to these authors from the canon to show that queer representation in literature and societies’ hysterical reaction to it are neither new nor emergent. Chapter 1 addresses the trending outrage towards books that include LGBTQ+ representation, framing it as a “new” and “emergent” occurrence. Chapter 2 refutes the claims that LGBTQ+ representation is either of those things by introducing Milton’s angels— …
The Art Of Sustaining Orchestras Through Intentional Educational Experiences, Kimberly Souther
The Art Of Sustaining Orchestras Through Intentional Educational Experiences, Kimberly Souther
Dissertations, 2020-current
The purpose of this study is to identify the most current and successful advances in audience engagement that champion connection and result in sustainability through purposeful educational experiences.
The Symphony Orchestra currently serves an audience which represents a multiplicity of perspectives, background, and understanding. In an era of expanded canon and outreach to local communities, the orchestra must acknowledge that change is necessary if we are to truly create fulfilling experiences for our listeners. Unfortunately, many orchestras fail to connect their outreach to the concert hall, woefully categorizing their patrons into pre-determined subsets. What if all patrons were trusted with …

The 2005 Bosnian Law On Defense; A Policy Change Case Study, Gregory D. Vuksich
The 2005 Bosnian Law On Defense; A Policy Change Case Study, Gregory D. Vuksich
Political Science ETDs
The Dayton Peace Accord (DPA) in 1995 ended the civil war in Bosnia and Hercegovina and established a constitution for the newly institutionalizing state. It permitted the three ethnicities – Bosniaks, Croats and Serbs – to retain their wartime armed forces in place under ethnic command, a prerogative the Serbs guarded strenuously. International organizations, however, sought a single, multiethnic military institution for the whole of the country. In 2005, however, the Serbs reversed their opposition and agreed to the international organization preference. This study explores why Bosnia’s Serbian community reversed its earlier and acceded to the creation of a single …
Implementation Of Implicit Bias Training In A Doctor Of Nurse Practitioner Program, Macdana Selecon
Implementation Of Implicit Bias Training In A Doctor Of Nurse Practitioner Program, Macdana Selecon
Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Projects
Background: Implicit bias in healthcare delivery refers to the unconscious mental associations healthcare providers make about patients from various social groups. Numerous studies suggest implicit bias contributes to health disparities primarily amongst marginalized groups. Furthermore, patients report a lower quality of communication from healthcare providers with higher implicit racial bias. In 2021, Assembly Bill 1407 (Nurses: Implicit Bias Courses Act) was passed to address the negative impact of bias on patient outcomes and requires California nursing schools to provide implicit bias training for nursing students.
Problem: All graduate nursing programs do not provide implicit bias (IB) training. As a result, …
