The Causal Role Of Theta Oscillations In The Frontoparietal Network On Cognitive Flexibility, Yosun Yoon
The Causal Role Of Theta Oscillations In The Frontoparietal Network On Cognitive Flexibility, Yosun Yoon
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2020 - Present
Cognitive flexibility is crucial for efficient goal-directed behavior, especially in rapidly changing environments. While recent studies have consistently shown enhanced theta power and synchronization in the frontoparietal network during flexible task-switching, direct evidence establishing a causal link between theta-rhythm brain oscillation and cognitive flexibility remains limited. In this study, we applied transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) to the frontoparietal network at a theta frequency (6 Hz) with a phase difference of either 0° (inphase) or 180° (antiphase) to explore its impact on task-switching performance. The results showed no significant tACS modulation effects on switch costs or neural oscillatory synchronization in …
The Effect Of Negative Information On Purchase Rejection: An Fnirs Study, Megan Caudle
The Effect Of Negative Information On Purchase Rejection: An Fnirs Study, Megan Caudle
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2020 - Present
The goal of this study is to determine how negative information affects purchasing decisions and what neurological processes are included in these purchasing decisions. Specifically, this study aims to explore the effect of consumers receiving the same negative attribute twice versus two different negative attributes for a product. The introduction of this study will discuss background concepts like the Controlled Semantic Cognition Framework from Lambon Ralph et al., (2017) and the neural processes behind selection as discussed in Thompson-Schill et al., (1997). The results indicated that there were differences in hemodynamic response between conditions where the same negative attribute was …
The Impact Of Lived Experience Representative Bureaucracy On The Perceived Humanness And Deservingness Of Clients: Analyzing First Responders’ Attitudes Toward People With Opioid Use Disorder, Ryan J. Lofaro
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2020 - Present
Representative bureaucracy theory has mainly been used to understand how identities related to race, ethnicity, and gender influence how bureaucrats administer public services. Although representation through lived experience has expanded the scope of the theory, this theoretical thread has mostly focused on the perspectives of management. In addition, the literature has generally analyzed the values, beliefs, and actions of minoritized bureaucrats rather than those of the racial and ethnic majority. The purpose of this dissertation is to employ lived experience and traditional representative bureaucracy theories to understand the influence of first responders’ experiences with addiction on their viewpoints regarding the …
The Influence Of Ideology On Corporate Sociopolitical Activism: A Stakeholder Perspective, John R. Rowley
The Influence Of Ideology On Corporate Sociopolitical Activism: A Stakeholder Perspective, John R. Rowley
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2020 - Present
Despite the historical norm that businesses should refrain from making public political statements for fear of losing customers, recent history has shown an increase in firms wading into controversial sociopolitical topics. As politics become increasingly pervasive in everyday life, consumers, investors, employees, and the general public expect firms to engage in political topics and make their positions clear. However, the considerations and processes firms undertake in deciding whether to take political stands are largely unstudied. This study examines the role of firm executives’ ideologies on their propensity to engage in corporate sociopolitical activism (CSA). Further, I examine how the ideologies …
The Interplay Between Ceo And Cfo Gender Diversity, Audit Committee Gender Diversity, And Managerial Overconfidence For Audit Quality, Tonya Blocker
The Interplay Between Ceo And Cfo Gender Diversity, Audit Committee Gender Diversity, And Managerial Overconfidence For Audit Quality, Tonya Blocker
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2020 - Present
Prior studies examine either CEO, CFO, or audit committee member gender as a determinant of audit quality. In contrast, this study makes the unique contribution of examining the interactive effects between a gender diverse CEO-CFO dyad and a gender diverse audit committee on audit quality. Further, prior studies examine the attribute of gender as a determinant of audit quality in isolation. I examine the effect of gender on audit quality in tandem with the potentially moderating effect of managerial overconfidence. In doing so, this study makes the unique contribution of examining whether the socialized construct of gender, or the cognitive …

The Relationship Between Stigma And Level Of Alzheimer's Disease Knowledge Within The Saudi Culture, Amnah Jambi
The Relationship Between Stigma And Level Of Alzheimer's Disease Knowledge Within The Saudi Culture, Amnah Jambi
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2020 - Present
There are two types of stigmas: self-stigma and public stigma. The focus of this dissertation was public stigma. The public stigma encountered by persons with Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) contributes to the isolation of families due to the effort made by AD caregivers to adjust to social challenges (Abojabel & Warner, 2019). According to the Saudi Alzheimer’s Disease Association (2022), there are 130 thousand documented cases of AD, which comprised 9% of the aged population. The severity of stigmas can vary across cultures because stigmas of disease are connected to cultural norms (Corrigan, 2014). Most studies conducted in Saudi Arabia have …

However, the performance of ANNs in action recognition depends on the type of model used. This study aimed to improve the accuracy of ANNs in action classification by incorporating biological motion information into the input conditions. The study used the UCF …
Collision Free Navigation In 3d Unstructured Environments Using Visual Looming, Juan David Arango Yepes
Collision Free Navigation In 3d Unstructured Environments Using Visual Looming, Juan David Arango Yepes
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2020 - Present
Vision is a critical sense for many species, with the perception of motion being a fundamental aspect. This aspect often provides richer information than static images for understanding the environment. Motion recognition is a relatively simple computation compared to shape recognition. Many creatures can discriminate moving objects quite well while having virtually no capacity for recognizing stationary objects. Traditional methods for collision-free navigation require the reconstruction of a 3D model of the environment before planning an action. These methods face numerous limitations as they are computationally expensive and struggle to scale in unstructured and dynamic environments with a multitude of …

Effectiveness Of Memes Predicted By Moral Content And Affective Polarization, Jordan L. Thompson
Effectiveness Of Memes Predicted By Moral Content And Affective Polarization, Jordan L. Thompson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2020 - Present
Memes have become a staple in political communication. However, the relationship between individuals’ political orientation, their level of affective polarization, the moral content of memes, and meme effectiveness is underexplored. I expected that polarized partisans would rate ingroup memes as more effective than outgroup memes. In line with moral foundations theory, I expected that polarized liberals would rate individualizing foundation memes as more effective than less polarized memes and that polarized conservatives would rate binding foundation memes as more effective than less polarized conservatives. Participants (N = 467) rated moral political memes for meme effectiveness. Results indicated that more polarized …

Examining Evacuation Decisions Of People Experiencing Homelessness During Natural Disasters Using The Protective Action Decision Model (Padm), Andrea Ramos
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2020 - Present
In this dissertation, I examined the lived experiences of people experiencing homelessness (PEH) and their perceptions of protective actions when making evacuation decisions during disasters or extreme weather events. Compared to other members of society, individuals experiencing homelessness during disasters face unique challenges, including a lack of shelter, transportation, access to news, and the need to carry all their belongings. This vulnerability is further heightened when natural disasters occur, as they lack physical protection, leading to increased exposure to hazards and adverse weather effects. The literature on homeless evacuation decision-making is limited (Donley & Wright, 2012), and the direct experiences …
