Background Childhood obesity is one of the most critical public health problems today. This study aims to assess the relation between carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) and cardiovascular risk factors in obese children. Patients and methods This is a case–control study conducted on 80 Egyptian children aged 6–18 years; 40 children with simple obesity as defined by WHO (2011) and 40 healthy children age matched and sex matched were taken as a control group. Cases were selected from the National Nutritional Institute randomly from December 2017 to March 2018. All patients and control groups were subjected to the following: full history …

Journal of Medicine in Scientific Research
Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is most common chronic disease characteristic by carbohydrate metabolic disorder in which absolute or relative deficiency in insulin and various pathological changes in the body system. The central nervous system disorders is among system affected by toxic effect and hyperglycemia. Auditory temporal processing is one of the important abilities of the central nervous system which may be affected by diabetes. However, the extent and nature of the central manifestations are still unknown. Objective: The aim of this study was to compare auditory temporal processing in these patients (Diabetics type 1 and Type 2) with normal subjects through …

For patients with ESRD, kidney transplant offers significant survival and quality-of-life advantages compared with dialysis. Non-sensitized renal transplant recipients when compared to patients with preformed alloantibodies, the latter are at greater risk of cellular, humeral rejection and premature graft failure. In this paper we will present a successful case of young adult who has ESRD and maintained on regular hemodialysis and undergo live related renal transplant with high dose HLA class I and class II antibodies and negative cross match by CDC and flow cytometry.

Crossed Testicular Ectopia (Cte), A Rare Anomaly: Case Report And Review Of The Literature, Mohammed Rabea Balaswad, Wael Ghorab, Shrief Mebed
Journal of Medicine in Scientific Research
BACKGROUND: A relatively uncommon urogenital anomaly known as crossed testicular ectopia (CTE) can be defined by the emigration of one testis into the opposing inguinal canal, which could possibly be ectopic in the abdominal cavity, inguinal region, or even descend to the opposing hemi-scrotum. Following a review of the literature, the most common classification is to subdivide CTE into three categories based on associations: I, which tends to be associated with inguinal hernia alone; II, which is predominantly associated with persistent mullerian remnants; and III, which is most frequently associated with other anomalies without mullerian remnants. CASE PRESENTATION: We describe …

Voice Quality Assessment In Cases Of Vocal Fold Gaps After Single Growth Factor Injection, Amr Roushdyel Badrawy, Asmaa Abdel Hamid, Israa Eltaweel, Azza Abdel Aziz Azzam
Journal of Medicine in Scientific Research
In severe vocal fold (VF) lesions, deposits of disorganized, thick collagen bundles and little hyaluronic acid (HA) are deposited in the superficial layer of lamina propria (SLP). These changes lead to severe dysphonia and aspiration, which could be complicated by fatal pneumonia. Unfortunately, no specific treatment has been recognized due to unpredictable VF regeneration. Current progress in regenerative medicine has allowed the development of tissue engineering techniques using cells, scaffolds, and growth factors (GFs). Extrinsic GFs application could help in the induction of the regenerative process. The work aims to assess the voice quality after a single GF injection of …

Ocular Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials In Patients With Single Sided Deafness, Alshymaa Ibrahim Hammad, Sanaa Mahran
Journal of Medicine in Scientific Research
Introduction: Clinically unilateral severe to profound sensorineural hearing loss known as single-sided deafness (SSD). It is defined by severe-to-profound hearing thresholds with a poor word recognition ability. SSD is not uncommonly encountered in otology, their symptoms is hearing loss and often associated with the vestibular system. In SSD otolithic dysfunction may be frequently misdiagnosed and majority of patients affected by cochlear and superior vestibular nerve then inferior vestibular nerve. Otolith damage may be present in patients with SSD because they sharing a membranous structure in addition they have similar receptor cell. The vestibule and cochlea may be impacted by the …

Efficacy Of Native T1 Mapping In Differentiation Between Viable And Non-Viable Myocardium In Chronic Ischemia, Diab Mahmoud S, Gad Azza A.H, Abdel Lattif Reda A, Mahrous Mary R
Journal of Medicine in Scientific Research
Background Myocardial ischemia may lead to reversible or irreversible myocardial insult. A precise assessment of myocardial viability (MV) is of clinical relevance to determine the recovery potential of the affected segments. Contrast enhanced cardiac magnetic resonance (CE-CMR) with late gadolinium (Gd) sequences is the gold standard method for MV assessment. Our study tasted the accuracy of segmental native T1 mapping (NT1M) imaging as a non-contrast technique for assessing MV. Methods: Forty-three patients with chronic myocardial ischemia underwent 1.5 T CMR. Imaging protocol includes cine images to assess left ventricular (LV) function, and (LGE) images to detect and estimate the extension …

The aim of this study is to establish the Turkish validity and reliability of the LSS in children with cerebral palsy (CP). Materials and methods: In total, 165 children (75 girls and 90 boys) between the ages of 4 and 18 years who were diagnosed with CP were included in the study. All children were evaluated by two independent physiotherapists for the interrater reliability analysis of the LSS and were reevaluated 1 week later by the same physiotherapist for the intrarater reliability …

Background/aim: Pathophysiologic changes associated with chronic inflammation occur with aging and more prominently in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), and an association between chronic inflammation and muscle wasting has been identified. The microcirculation is extremely sensitive to the inflammatory process and actively participates in it. In a healthy adult, angiogenesis is a strictly controlled and rare occurrence. However, aberrant angiogenesis and the development of new tiny blood vessels are known in chronic inflammatory diseases. Superb microvascular imaging (SMI) is a noninvasive technique that can evaluate tiny vessels with low blood flow and provide quantitative data. Our goal was to …

Background/aim: To describe the disease activity and retention rate in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients with inadequate response (IR) to conventional synthetic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (csDMARDs) and/or tumor necrosis factor inhibitors (TNFis) who were prescribed tocilizumab (TCZ) as first-line or second-line biologic treatment in real-world setting. Materials and methods: Data gathered from patients' files was used in a multicenter and retrospective context. Retention rates and the Disease Activity Score in 28 joints with CRP (DAS28-CRP) were evaluated at time points. The relationship of drug efficacy with factors such as smoking, obesity, and previous use of TNFis was also examined. Results: One …

Background/aim: Granulomatous mastitis (GM) is a rare inflammatory disease of the breast. Tuberculosis mastitis (TM), one of the causes of GM, is a rare form of extrapulmonary tuberculosis. The clinical, radiological, and histopathological findings of TM and GM are similar, and sometimes it is difficult to make a distinction between these disease states. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the clinical and radiological features, diagnostic techniques, treatment modalities and treatment outcomes of the patients with GM and TM. Materials and methods: The data of the patients with confirmed GM by histopathologic examination of biopsy specimens between 2007 and 2020 …
