A Comparative Study Of Beliefs, Attitudes, And Motivation Toward English Language Learning Among Thai And Chinese Undergraduates In Different Study Programs, Lu Geng Sun
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This study investigated the beliefs, attitudes, and motivations towards English language learning among Thai and Chinese undergraduate students at Dhurakij Pundit University (DPU). Employing a mixed-method approach, this research utilized both quantitative and qualitative methods to discern and compare these students' experiences. The quantitative phase involved 332 students, selected through stratified random sampling, who completed comprehensive questionnaires based on a five-point Likert scale. The qualitative phase included 31 purposefully selected participants from the initial pool for semi-structured interviews. Findings revealed that Chinese undergraduates exhibited a significantly stronger belief orientation, more positive attitudes, and greater motivational drive towards English language learning …

Does Esg Performance Impact Financial Distress Risk? Evidence From Asia-Pacific Markets, Methee Srikranjanapert
Does Esg Performance Impact Financial Distress Risk? Evidence From Asia-Pacific Markets, Methee Srikranjanapert
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This research investigates the relationship between Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance, represented by ESG scores, and Probability of Financial Distress Risk (FDR), as proxied by Ohlson O-Score, for firms operating in the Asia-Pacific region from 2010 to 2022. In addition, the aforementioned relationship during economic crisis and the level of market development is also investigated. The findings reveal a negative association between ESG performance and the probability of FDR in which the increase in ESG performance reduces the likelihood of FDR. Notably, the environmental and social pillars of ESG consistently exhibit negative relationship with FDR, with the social pillar …

The Impact Of Regulation, Financial Liberalization, And Mobile Banking On Banking Crises : Evidence From Cross-Country Data, Napisa Saengmaneenimitr
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This paper examines how financial liberalization, institutional quality, and mobile banking adoption affect the probability of a banking crisis using a panel of 36 countries over the period 2000 – 2021. Our key inference is that the relationship between financial liberalization and the probability of a banking crisis is depended in institutional quality. In strong institutional quality countries, the impact of financial liberalization on the probability of a banking crisis is a concave curve, increasing the likelihood of a crisis at low to moderate liberalization levels and reducing it at medium to high levels. Conversely, weak institutions do not exhibit …

Perception And Experiences Of Sexual Harassment Among Lgbtq Students In Universities, Bangkok Thailand, Jiratchaya Rungrote
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
The purpose of this research was to study perceptions and experiences of sexual harassment among 355 LGBTQ students in the University. Data was collected by self-administer questionnaire to find perceptions and experiences of sexual harassment. Descriptive, Pearson’s Chi-square and Fisher exact were performed to describe and determine the associations. The research findings indicate that the majority of research participants were perceived to sexual harassment at a moderate level. There was a moderate tolerant attitude towards sexual harassment, and there were experiences of verbal, non-verbal, and physical sexual harassment at a moderate level. Gender, University, part-time job type, the use of …

Plastic litter and microplastic pollution in the aquatic environment have become a major concern since scientists, politicians, and citizens began to learn about the impacts in recent years. This in-depth desk review of scientific papers and Vietnamese policies aims to state the current knowledge, legal framework, and action plan relative to microplastic assessment, release, and control in Vietnamese aquatic environments, especially rivers. Regarding scientific literature, this paper focuses on (i) the occurrence of microplastics in riverine surface water and sediments, (ii) the fate and transfer of microplastics in Vietnam’s canals-riverine- estuarine systems, (iii) their accumulation in biota, and (iv) effects …

Phosphorus (P) is an essential nutrient for phytoplankton growth in water bodies and an important element in biochemical processes. Also, excessive P in river causes eutrophication which endangers aquatic organisms while sediment acts as sink for inorganic and organic pollutants and nutrients. To assess the availability of P and heavy metals (HMs) in Ogun River, surface sediment samples were collected at twelve anthropogenic sites for three months. The surface sediment samples were sequentially extracted to determine five phosphorus fractions [loosely-sorbed P (LS-P), iron-bound P (Fe-P), authigenic apatite, biogenic apatite and CaCO3-bound P (CFA-P), detrital apatite (Det-P) and other inorganic P …

The findings showed that several types of bacteria can help biodegrade organic pollutants, such as Comamonadacea, which can biodegrade volatile fatty acids and aromatic compounds. Proteobacteria, Bacteroidetes, and Actinobacteria can biodegrade ammonium. Burkholderiales can biodegrade ferric ions and hydrogen. Comamonas testosteroni is able to biodegrade nitrates. Pseudomonas taiwanensis, Acinetobacter guillouiae, and Klebsiella pneumoniae can reduce copper, chromium and zinc levels. Azolla biomass reduces strontium. Rhodospirillum sp. can biodegrade cadmium, mercury, lead, and nickel. Gallionella ferruginea and Leptothrix sp. can biodegrade arsenic and manganese. Gracilaria sp. can biodegrade aluminum, chromium, and zinc. Desulfovibrio sp. can …

A 10-Year Retrospective Study On Mandibular Fractures In Northern Taiwan, Nai-Chia Teng, Chih-Yuan Fang, Han-Yu Tsai, Chen-Yin Yong, Yoichi Ohiro, Yu-Chao Chang
Journal of Dental Sciences
Abstract Background/purpose The mandible is an independent and protruding bone structure in the lower third portion of the human facial skeleton. Because of its prominent and unprotected position, the mandible is a primary site of facial trauma. Previous studies have not comprehensively discussed the association between the mandibular fractures and concomitant fractures of facial bones, the trunk, or limbs. This study analyzed the epidemiology of mandibular fractures and their correlation with concomitant fractures. Materials and methods The present study enrolled 118 patients with a total of 202 mandibular fracture sites during at any time from January 1, 2012, to December …

Identification And Functional Characterization Of Myb Transcription Factors Regulating Flavonoid Biosynthesis In Durian Durio Zibethinus L. Pulps, Kamonwan Weerawanich
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Durian fruit possesses high nutritional value due to its enriched bioactive compounds such as phenolics, carotenoids, and vitamins. While various transcription factors (TFs) regulate the phenylpropanoid biosynthetic pathway, MYB TFs play a pivotal role in controlling key genes in this pathway. In this study, we identified candidate v-Myb myeloblastosis viral oncogene homolog, MYB TFs from our transcriptome database of the Monthong cultivar including five developmental/postharvest ripening stages. MYBs that were upregulated during the ripening stage were considered as candidate transcriptional activators, based on the positive correlation observed between flavonoid biosynthetic genes and flavonoid contents in ripe durian pulps. Conversely, MYBs …
