Leading With The Trailing Edge: Facilitating Patient Choice For Insulin Products, Robin Feldman Jan 2023

Leading With The Trailing Edge: Facilitating Patient Choice For Insulin Products, Robin Feldman

Faculty Scholarship

Insulin prices have risen sharply, despite a century since its introduction. Against this backdrop, companies have discontinued dozens of insulin prod- ucts. Discontinuation could relate to safety or effectiveness, or to the over- whelming benefits of newer products. On the other hand, discontinuation could suggest strategic behavior hampering competition and supporting prices. To test these theories, this project examined every insulin discontin- uation, analyzing the role discontinuations play in insulin affordability. No evidence emerged of any discontinuation for safety or effectiveness. Rather, dozens of viable products were removed from the market, followed by more expensive versions, often with little or …

How Salinity Influences Soil Organisms: Earthworms, Archaea, Bacteria And Fungi, Cecelia Bartley Castleberry Jan 2023

How Salinity Influences Soil Organisms: Earthworms, Archaea, Bacteria And Fungi, Cecelia Bartley Castleberry

Soil Science

Soil salinity is a naturally-occurring issue in the Great Plains. Current standards for saline soil designation are based on plant tolerance levels. This thesis expands salinity knowledge into salinity responses of other soil organisms. I used laboratory mesocosms to examine survival and fecundity or cocoon production of earthworms in the Apporectodea complex to increasing levels of salinity, with or without supplemental organic matter (OM). I then used a split-bin design to examine earthworm choice between combinations of saline and non-saline soils, with and without supplemental OM. I found that earthworms avoided saline soils, but survival and production was steady across …

Sustainable Transportation Planning During An Era Of Technological Evolution, Derek John Hungness Jan 2023

Sustainable Transportation Planning During An Era Of Technological Evolution, Derek John Hungness

Transportation Logistics and Finance

“Sustainable Transportation Planning During an Era of Technological Evolution” provides an in-depth analysis spanning three pivotal chapters, each focusing on the nexus of climate change, transportation, and metropolitan planning. Chapter 2 delves into climate change's role in transportation plans. The literature reviews transportation’s effects on climate change and the significance of Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) transportation planning. After identifying research gaps and ethical considerations, the chapter outlines a methodology employing Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) model construction, text preprocessing, and evaluation metrics. Python’s Natural Language Processing (NLP) toolbox is utilized to analyze the contents of 42 long-range transportation plans. Semantic interpretations …

Neurocognitive Correlates Of Cerebellar Volumetric Alterations In Youth With Pediatric Bipolar Spectrum Disorders And Bipolar Offspring, Kirti Saxena, Alessio Simonetti, Christopher D Verrico, Delfina Janiri, Marco Di Nicola, Antonello Catinari, Sherin Kurian, Johanna Saxena, Benson Mwangi, Jair C Soares Jan 2023

Neurocognitive Correlates Of Cerebellar Volumetric Alterations In Youth With Pediatric Bipolar Spectrum Disorders And Bipolar Offspring, Kirti Saxena, Alessio Simonetti, Christopher D Verrico, Delfina Janiri, Marco Di Nicola, Antonello Catinari, Sherin Kurian, Johanna Saxena, Benson Mwangi, Jair C Soares

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

BACKGROUND: Emerging evidence points towards the involvement of the cerebellum in the processing of emotions and pathophysiology of mood disorders. However, cerebellar and related cognitive alterations in youth with pediatric bipolar disorder (PBD) and those at high risk to develop the disorder, such as bipolar offspring (BD-OFF) are not clearly defined.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate cerebellar gray and white matter volumes, cognition, and their relationship in youth with PBD and BD-OFF.

METHODS: Thirty youth (7 to 17 years, inclusive) with PBD, 30 BD-OFF and 40 healthy controls (HC) were recruited. Study participants underwent a computer-based cognitive battery assessing affective processing, executive …
