Early Case Management Involvement For Long-Term Care Planning In The Primary Care Setting To Reduce Avoidable Social Admissions In High-Risk Patients, Elizabeth Blondeau
Early Case Management Involvement For Long-Term Care Planning In The Primary Care Setting To Reduce Avoidable Social Admissions In High-Risk Patients, Elizabeth Blondeau
M. S. in Nursing Health Care Leadership
There are no protocols for case management referrals of patients at risk for social hospital admissions by their outpatient providers. Social admissions lead to adverse outcomes such as delirium, infections, polypharmacy, falls, functional dependence, pose a resource and financial strain on organizations, and are antithetical to patient-centered care. Timely case management intervention may prevent these hospitalizations by establishing a plan for future care needs. Project activities included the analysis of retrospective admission data from a N.H. community hospital, collaboration with interdisciplinary colleagues among and between both inpatient and outpatient settings, and an evaluation of best practices from the literature, resulting …

Engaging The Aging Process: Unlock The Fountain Of Youth, Abeni El-Amin Ph.D.
Management Faculty Publications
Employment for aging is a significant aspect shaping the aging processes during formative years. Therefore, work opportunities combined and consequential impacts later in life merit special consideration. Given that population aging has become a global pattern with ensuing changes in labor markets far and wide, there is increased concern about the impacts of retirement around the globe and the macroeconomic advantages frequently connected with delaying retirement. It is fundamental for nations with aging populations to maintain profitability, given an aging workforce. Governments must make it simpler for individuals to maintain a significant presence in the workforce. This contribution focuses on …

Fundamental Products And Autonomous Sets: An Algorithmic Approach, Eugenio M. Fedriani, ?Ngel F. Tenorio
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
The main goal of this paper is to analyze an economy through its symmetric input-output table by using Graph Theory. After providing a definition of the characteristic digraph for the economy, the authors give some properties and algorithms to characterize and compute the fundamental products and, later, the autonomous sets of the studied economy. Six of these algorithms are explained in detail and formulated; the best choices are also implemented with the computational package Mathematica, compared in terms of efficiency, and applied to real input-output matrices from Greece.

Alice Pettee Adams came from Jaffrey, New Hampshire when she enrolled at the Bridgewater Normal School (now Bridgewater State University) in 1885. She graduated from the four-year program in 1889. In 1891, after a brief stint as a teacher and principal of a high school in her hometown, she went to Okayama, Japan through a Christian Missionary program. She originally had the ambition of dedicating ten years of her life to this social work/education endeavor. Rather than ten years, she went on to dedicate the rest of her life to helping the poor and impoverished in Okayama, Japan.

Renewing A Nation: The Impact Of The African Diaspora On The African American Family, Culture And The Black Church, Lolita R. Gilmore-Randall
Renewing A Nation: The Impact Of The African Diaspora On The African American Family, Culture And The Black Church, Lolita R. Gilmore-Randall
Doctor of Ministry
Despite the notion the past can never be removed, disassembled or altered, variant versions of African American history continue to serve as a fluid document in time without accountability, acknowledgement, or consciousness of the liabilities associated with the African diaspora. Studies show an estimated 12.5 million African men, women, and children were forcibly transported as part of the transatlantic slave trade, an egregious act that remains impactful to this day. African Americans represent 12% of the American population, but constitute 2.3 million, or 34%, of the total 6.8 million in correctional facilities. Though African American children make up 14% of …

Feasibility And Acceptability Pilot Test Of Connecting Latinos En Parejas: A Couples-Based Hiv Prevention Intervention For Latino Male Couples., Omar Martinez, M Isabel Fernandez, Cui Yang, Elwin Wu, Omar Valentin, Mallory Johnson
HPD Articles
Despite recent emphasis on couples-based HIV prevention interventions, efficacious interventions for Latino male couples have yet to be tested. The study examined the feasibility and acceptability of the Connecting Latinos en Pareja (CLP) intervention, a couples-based HIV prevention intervention for Latino male couples. This pilot demonstrated high feasibility, meeting targets for recruitment, retention, and intervention completion. We recruited a diverse cohort of 46 individuals/23 couples with a retention rate of 80% over 6 months and a 100% intervention completion rate in both conditions (four structured couple sessions in each condition). This pilot RCT was not powered to detect significant intervention …

The Roles Of Personal And Environmental Resources In Predicting Work–Family Facilitation And Mental Health Among Employed Parents Of Children With Disabilities In Croatia, Ana Šimunić, Ana Slišković, Andrea Tokić, Jelena Ombla, Lisa Stewart
Social Work Faculty Publications and Presentations
Quantitative research on the positive aspects of work–life integration and the well-being of families with children with disabilities is scarce, especially in the national context. The family can provide gains that enhance work domain functioning (family-to-work facilitation; FWF), and work can provide gains that enhance family domain functioning (work-to-family facilitation; WFF). The aim of this study is to examine the contributions of some personal and environmental resources in explaining WFF and FWF and the mental health of parents of children with disabilities residing in Croatia. The mediational role of WFF and FWF in the relationship between resources and mental health …
Social Work In A Post-Dobbs World: The ‘Adoption Fallacy’, Decolonization, And Reproductive Justice, Kristen Cheney, Karen Smith Rotabi
Social Work In A Post-Dobbs World: The ‘Adoption Fallacy’, Decolonization, And Reproductive Justice, Kristen Cheney, Karen Smith Rotabi
Social Work Faculty Publications and Presentations
This article takes as its departure a critique of the ‘adoption fallacy’ underlying the US Supreme Court decision Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization to argue that the Dobbs decision incentivizes a reconsideration of social work practice as a site for advancing reproductive justice. To do this, however, social work must strive to decolonize the profession by critically reflecting on its role in reproductive policy and politics, particularly its complicity in abortion and adoption decisions that may have limited—and continue to limit—reproductive justice. Only then can social work effectively counter the adoption fallacy and advocate more broadly for reproductive justice.

Will Networks In Military Life Influence Veteran’S Entrepreneurial Intention? Institutional Impacts On Transitional Entrepreneurship, Jamil Kreugel, Timiry R. Tian, Nicklous Salzman, Jing Zhang
College of Business (Strome) Posters
This research studies how military and civilian networks influence military veteran’s perceived resource acquisition and consequently their entrepreneurial intention (EI). Building on social network theory and institutional theory, we argue that the effects of a network consisting of military ties may be more limited than its civilian counterpart in increasing veteran’s EI. The institutional gap between military and civilian life increases the difficulty of making the transition and therefore disconnects the link between one’s military network and their EI via resource acquisition. Using questionnaire survey data collected from 261 veteran students in a public university in the US, we found …
Telehealth Benefits In Rural Areas: Occupational Therapy, Grant E. Tolkkinen, Grace K. Torgerson, Kaitlyn J. Wanner
Telehealth Benefits In Rural Areas: Occupational Therapy, Grant E. Tolkkinen, Grace K. Torgerson, Kaitlyn J. Wanner
Critically Appraised Topics
This paper focuses on the efficacy of occupational-based interventions administered via telehealth within a rural-dwelling adult (18 years and older) population with mental health conditions. The main factors to consider in this scenario are the mental health services in rural areas, the features of the rural population, and the role of occupational therapy (OT) and telehealth in rural mental health. The Occupational Therapy Practice Framework defined health management as “activities related to developing, managing, and maintaining health and wellness routines, including self-management, with the goal of improving or maintaining health to support participation and other occupation” (AOTA, 2020, p.32).

Objective: Veterans can present at nongovernment (Department of Defense, Department of Veterans Affairs) mental health agencies with complex symptom constellations that frequently include posttraumatic stress disorder, depression, and generalized anxiety. To date, no veteran study has validated these measures on a treatment-seeking sample of veterans outside the DoD and VA. Methods: We used a treatment-seeking sample of veterans (N = 493) to validate measures that assess these constructs (PTSD Checklist 5, Patient Health Questionnaire-9, and Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7). Results: The seven-factor posttraumatic stress disorder hybrid configuration was the best fit. The best fitting model of the depression …
