Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) issues, experiences, and theorizing have had limited representation within social work education. In recent years there has been an increase in the scholarly discourse regarding queer and trans issues and social work education, but little is known about the landscape of this body of published work. In this scoping review, we explored peerreviewed literature regarding the intersections of social work education and queer and trans experience, issues, and theorizing. Utilizing major academic databases, we identified 54 articles published in social work literature from 2010 to 2020 that met inclusion criteria. Topical areas of …

The Effectiveness Of A Social-Emotional Learning And Motor Skill Enrichment Program In Preschool-Aged Children, Caila Nguyen
OTD DEx Reports - College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences
"Children “at risk” are vulnerable to lower social and emotional (SE) competence and motor skill development. Due to the unique upbringing of children of low socioeconomic families, it is important for early childhood professionals to understand the need for social-emotional learning (SEL) in the classroom and into adulthood. Motor skill development during preschool years are significantly associated with the development of SE skills and academic performance (Cheung, 2022). The purpose of this study is to explore the effectiveness of an SEL and motor skill enrichment program in preschool-aged children at an early learning facility. This study involved evidence-based practice within …

School of Education and Leadership Student Capstone Projects
Minnesota allows for students to graduate upon successful completion of their Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals, colloquially known as an IEP-driven diploma or an “IEP diploma.” While districts and schools may have their own requirements for this process, guidance from the state only specifies that the IEP team facilitates this process and that annual IEP goals and supporting objectives should be written to support students’ transition goals. The planning framework at the center of this project is designed to support educators in developing culturally sustaining, student-centered goals and objectives for students with disabilities who are graduating via IEP-driven diplomas. Exploring Factors Associated With Academic Motivation And College And Career Readiness Of Rural Adolescents, Peter N. Knox
The Rural Educator
Past decades have seen an increase in focus on college and career readiness (CCR) policy and programming to meet the growing demand for a high-skill, global, 21st-century workforce. Recent research indicates many adolescents aspire to succeed in various postsecondary paths, but a persistent gap between aspirations and attainment remains. This is particularly true for traditionally underserved and underrepresented populations, such as those from rural communities. Looking beyond academic metrics such as test scores, grade point averages, and course offerings, this study seeks to address this gap by investigating rural adolescent school context and experience factors that may be associated with …
Advancing An Organizational Health Perspective For Insider Threat Prevention And Management, Tin L. Nguyen, Matthew T. Allen, Kat Parsons
Advancing An Organizational Health Perspective For Insider Threat Prevention And Management, Tin L. Nguyen, Matthew T. Allen, Kat Parsons
Reports, Projects, and Research
Malicious insiders pose a serious risk to valued organizational assets, including proprietary information, institutional processes, personnel, finances, reputation, and firm connections. Research-based solutions for predicting, detecting, and mitigating insider threats have focused heavily on individual, organizational, and cyber risk factors (Kont et al. 2015; Greitzer et al. 2018). To that end, scholars have increasingly recognized that people’s personalities, motivations, grievances, and work stressors raise the risk of insider threat events, and the corresponding interventional strategies involve cybersecurity and work design practices to safeguard the organization against human error and deviance (Homoliak et al. 2019; Greitzer et al. 2013; Maasberg, Warren, …

Designing Human-Centered Algorithms For The Public Sector: A Case Study Of The U.S. Child Welfare System, Devansh Saxena
Dissertations (1934 -)
Public sector agencies in the United States are increasingly seeking to emulate business models of the private sector centered in efficiency, cost reduction, and innovation through the adoption of algorithmic systems. These data-driven systems purportedly improve decision-making; however, the public sector poses its own unique challenges where policies, practices, and organizational constraints mediate all decisions. Algorithms that do not account for these pertinent aspects of professional practice frustrate practitioners, diminish the quality of human discretionary work, and amplify biases in decision-making. A human-centered research agenda can help us develop algorithms centered in social-ecological theories that support the decision-making processes of …

It appears the Maharlika Investment Fund (MIF) is a fait accompli. As we write, our finance officials are in New York and Toronto, pitching the MIF to international bankers and representatives of Middle East sovereign wealth funds. This means once President Marcos, Jr. affixes his signature, a newly-created Maharlika Investment Corporation (MIC) will pool, before the year is over, PhP 75 billion in seed capital from the LandBank and Development Bank of the Philippines. With a further PhP 50 billion plus two full years of dividends from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), its nine directors, all presidential appointees, will …

Creating A People-First Court Data Framework, Lauren Sudeall, Charlotte S. Alexander
Creating A People-First Court Data Framework, Lauren Sudeall, Charlotte S. Alexander
Vanderbilt Law School Faculty Publications
Most court data are maintained--and most empirical court research is conducted--from the institutional vantage point of the courts. Using the case as the common unit of measurement, data-driven court research typically focuses on metrics such as the size of court dockets, the speed of case processing, judicial decision-making within cases, and the frequency of case events occurring within or resulting from the court system.
This Article sets forth a methodological framework for reconceptualizing and restructuring court data as "people-first"-centered not on the perspective of courts as institutions but on the people who interact with the court system. We reorganize case-level …

FSP is a relatively new agency, established in 2015, and when they began working with the QIC-WD in 2017, FSP employed approximately 20 social workers, who provided direct service to children and families. Persistent vacancies were of greater concern than turnover. The QIC-WD partnered with FSP to conduct a needs assessment and identify areas of need that could be addressed through a workforce intervention. Three areas of need were identified as offering the strongest opportunities for intervention through the QIC-WD …
