Tinjauan Literatur Sistematis Terhadap Penerapan Sistem Klasifikasi Khusus Di Perpustakaan, Euis Sri Nurhayati, Nina Mayesti

Jurnal Ilmu Informasi, Perpustakaan, dan Kearsipan

The Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) is a widely implemented classification system in most libraries. However, its usage has declined over the past four decades, and libraries are advised to undergo reclassification. Conversely, it is recognized that the implementation of specialized classification systems significantly impacts information retrieval. Therefore, the aim of this study is to elucidate the concept and methodology behind the integration of bespoke categorization frameworks within diverse libraries across Indonesia over the past decade. This study employs the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) and the Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome, and Context (PICOC) framework to analyze ideas, schemes, processes, and challenges …

“I’M Different From You But Very Much Like You”: Religious Women Activists And Their Father Figures, Ayelet Makaros, Edith Blit-Cohen

Journal of International Women's Studies

This study examined activist women in religious society in Israel in order to gain in-depth insights into their lived experience and coping strategies in advocating for change in their society. The article is based on thematic analysis of semi-structured interviews with fourteen such women. Contrary to the expectation that there would be a dominant mother figure influencing the activists’ lives, the findings show that the influence of mothers was marginal and even an impeding factor, while father figures were the most significant in these women’s childhood and development into activists. All religious activists perceived their fathers as highly influential, in …

Gender Discrimination In Hong Kong Churches, Caroline C. Yih Oct 2023

Gender Discrimination In Hong Kong Churches, Caroline C. Yih

Journal of International Women's Studies

Institutional sexism continues to hinder women’s career progression, creating hurdles that women must overcome in the workplace. The context of institutional religion is not exempt from such gender-related injustice, and women in leadership positions within the ecclesiastical system are vulnerable to overt gender inequality. This article examines gender disenfranchisement in Hong Kong churches. It utilizes data gathered and processed through the qualitative research methodology of Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) to analyze the lived experience of clergywomen in English-speaking faith communities in Hong Kong. The study reveals the indisputable presence of institutional sexism manifested and perpetuated by a host of gender …

Ogham Article Published

In the Fall 1989 Insights we mentioned that a review of claims of the finding of early inscriptions in the New World written in Ogham, a language from medieval Ireland, would be published soon in the Review of Archaeology by David Kelley. That article has now been published (Spring 1990, pp. 1-10), and even though it is a rather technical discussion, you may want to examine it.

The Elusive Motive Requirement In Canada’S Terrorism Offences: Defining And Distinguishing Ideology, Religion, And Politics, Michael Nesbitt, Leah West, Amarnath Amarasingam Oct 2023

The Elusive Motive Requirement In Canada’S Terrorism Offences: Defining And Distinguishing Ideology, Religion, And Politics, Michael Nesbitt, Leah West, Amarnath Amarasingam

Osgoode Hall Law Journal

Canada distinguishes “ordinary crime” from terrorism offences primarily by reference to whether an act meets the Criminal Code’s definition of “terrorist activity.” The most confusing and least understood element of terrorist activity is its motive requirement, that being that for a crime to constitute a terrorism offence, the actor must be motivated by politics, religion, or ideology. How do we know when such a motive exists, or even how to define these motivations? How do we differentiate ordinary crime from terrorism if we do not know what ideologies or religions “count” and which do not? Do far-right motivations picked and …

Violent End To Maya Civilization?

Insights: The Newsletter of the Neal A. Maxwell Institute for Religious Scholarship

A May 26 article in the Washington Post reports on the archaeological research of Vanderbilt U. Prof. Arthur Demarest that shows that the Maya civilization may have collapsed much more violently and much more rapidly than previously thought. "The whole region was gripped by endemic warfare far more destructive than anything we had ever imagined," says Demarest. He believes that this collapse was related to overpopulation and poor soils.

Antenantiosis In The Book Of Mormon

Insights: The Newsletter of the Neal A. Maxwell Institute for Religious Scholarship

Gail Call, one of our enthusiastic F.A.R.M.S. readers, has pointed out the presence in the Book of Mormon of an interesting figure of speech called antenantiosis. In this figure of speech, an expression is stated in terms of its negated opposite. The result is to express the positive in a very high degree, or as the biblical scholar E.W. Bullinger puts it, "We thus emphasize that which we seem to lessen" (Figures of Speech Used in the Bible [Baker Book House: Grand Rapids, 1989], pp. 159-64).

Panikkar On Mysticism As A Middle Way Between Contemplation And Action, Abraham Velez De Cea Oct 2023

Panikkar On Mysticism As A Middle Way Between Contemplation And Action, Abraham Velez De Cea

EKU Faculty and Staff Scholarship

Panikkar’s philosophy of mysticism is best understood as an attempt to overcome monistic and dualistic ways of thinking about the divine, human beings and the universe. Mysticism, for Panikkar, is irreducible to either monistic experiences of oneness without a second or to dualistic experiences where the divine is seen as wholly other. Rather, mysticism relates to holistic experiences of Reality and Life where the divine, the universe and human consciousness are seen as distinct yet constitutively interrelated. Mysticism has often been based on dualistic views of this life and the next, worldly existence and heavenly existence, the material and the …
