Identifying novel cell surface receptors that regulate leukemia cell differentiation and can be targeted to inhibit cellular proliferation is crucial to improve current treatment modalities in acute myeloid leukemia (AML), especially for relapsed or chemotherapy-refractory leukemia. Leukocyte immunoglobulin-like receptor type B (LILRB) is an immunomodulatory receptor originally found to be expressed in myeloid cells. In this study, we found that LILRB receptors can be induced under inflammatory stimuli and chemotherapy treatment conditions. Blockade of LILRB3 inhibited leukemia cell proliferation and leukemia progression. Additionally, treatment with LILRB3 blocking antibodies upregulated myeloid lineage differentiation transcription factors, including PU.1, C/EBP family, and IRF, …

Advances In Diagnostic Tools And Therapeutic Approaches For Gliomas: A Comprehensive Review, Gayathree Thenuwara Nanolab Research Centre, James Curtin, Furong Tian Nanolab Research Centre

Gliomas, a prevalent category of primary malignant brain tumors, pose formidable clinical challenges due to their invasive nature and limited treatment options. The current therapeutic landscape for gliomas is constrained by a “one-size-fits-all” paradigm, significantly restricting treatment efficacy. Despite the implementation of multimodal therapeutic strategies, survival rates remain disheartening. The conventional treatment approach, involving surgical resection, radiation, and chemotherapy, grapples with substantial limitations, particularly in addressing the invasive nature of gliomas. Conventional diagnostic tools, including computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and positron emission tomography (PET), play pivotal roles in outlining tumor characteristics. However, they face limitations, such as …

The Rhetorical Orientation Of The Phenomenon Of Contextual Syntactic Deviation In Surat Al-Baqarah, Bakil Ali Mahmoud Al-Marani
The Rhetorical Orientation Of The Phenomenon Of Contextual Syntactic Deviation In Surat Al-Baqarah, Bakil Ali Mahmoud Al-Marani
Alustath Journal for Human and Social Sciences
The phenomenon of contextual syntactic deviation has attracted a great deal of attention from linguists and rhetoricians. It is a linguistic phenomenon associated with the change of meaning that occurs when the established pattern in the grammatical rules is deviated from. In other words, it refers to a displacement or change in the linguistic structure or sentence structure. This deviation is justified by the context, and it is an intentional deviation that aims to give the literary text - of all its types - new meanings that are rhetorically directed to cause a psychological impact on the recipient. This phenomenon …

Alustath Journal for Human and Social Sciences
The interrelationship between Arabic and Persian has been an old one manifested mainly by the arrival of Islam into Iran and simultaneously the creation of the first Persian works of literature in the third and fourth centuries. It was, indeed, Arabic, which exerted more influence. The culmination of this influence can be seen in a literary style called Eraghi typical of seventh and eighth centuries. Many Persian poets and writers tried to emulate their ancestors in the use of Arabic since then .The influence, thus, lives on during other dynasties including Safavids and Qajariye; to various degrees, though. A Comparative Analysis Of The Baghdad And Babylon Universities Exploring Factors Affecting Their Competitiveness In World University Rankings, Ahmed Kanaan Suleiman
Alustath Journal for Human and Social Sciences
In recent years, global university rankings have gained popularity as a means of evaluating the quality of higher education institutions because they provide valuable insights into the best institutions around the globe; therefore, employers, academics, and students use this ranking to decide from where to hire new employees, where to pursue higher education, and where to conduct research. This holds true for Iraqi universities as well, as they strive to assess their standing and competitiveness on a global scale. In this study, the findings of Baghdad and Babylon universities in the Times Ranking are analyzed and compared. Additionally, the factors, …

United States Oil Discovery, Regulation And Economic Employment 1859 -1918, Ammar Hussein Ali
Alustath Journal for Human and Social Sciences
Abstract
The discovery of oil in the United States of America in 1859 contributed to its technical development and industrial and economic excellence, as its oil companies, especially the company that operated Standard Oil, developed the means of extracting, refining, and exporting it, which monopolized the industry until 1911, when the Supreme Court ordered the dismantling of the company to several companies, following which it emerged. Five major American companies dominated the world's oil industry until the early 1950s, contributing to the development of the U.S. economy by increasing financial revenues by exporting oil to all countries in the world. …

The Effect Of Bilingualism On Cognitive Development In Children Review Article, Amal Mahmoud Ali
The Effect Of Bilingualism On Cognitive Development In Children Review Article, Amal Mahmoud Ali
Alustath Journal for Human and Social Sciences
Bilingualism has become an increasingly common phenomenon in today’s globalized world, with many children growing up exposed to two or more languages. As a result, there has been growing interest among researchers in understanding the impact of bilingualism on thinking development in young and children. Some studies confirmed that bilingualism can have a positive effect on children’s perception cognitive development, particularly in the zones of attention control, Operational memory, and cognitive flexibility. Dual-language learners may also have better Planning and organization skills, such as task-switching and inhibitory control, compared to monolingual children. These cognitive advantages may be due to the …

After a semester of learning, both in class and in nature, my writing honed in further on this human-nature divide. To me, I see humans as part of nature – as we are mammals, animals, part of the food chain, biological beings no higher than others on our planet. We have simply constructed this false narrative around us within our societies, minds and media that embeds this division between us and nature, between us and wildlife. Humans have been managing, stewarding, living off and within landscapes for thousands of years. As time and technology evolved, a lot of people began …

Abstract:
The unregulated use of artificial intelligence (AI) without public consent has raised ethical concerns, particularly affecting marginalized communities such as transgender individuals. This project, based on interviews with 34 transgender people, explores the impact of AI on historically marginalized minorities, emphasizing the urgent need for an ethical and legal framework. This research reveals instances of discrimination and challenges faced by transgender individuals at various stages, from border control to airport security, highlighting the limitations and biases of AI in recognizing diverse gender identities. Trans rights activists, and AI experts remark the importance of inclusivity in AI development and regulation. …

INTRODUCTION: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder affecting millions of patients. Closed-Loop Deep Brain Stimulation (CL-DBS) is a therapy that can alleviate the symptoms of PD. The CL-DBS system consists of an electrode sending electrical stimulation signals to a specific region of the brain and a battery-powered stimulator implanted in the chest. The electrical stimuli in CL-DBS systems need to be adjusted in real-time in accordance with the state of PD symptoms. Therefore, fast and precise monitoring of PD symptoms is a critical function for CL-DBS systems. However, the current CL-DBS techniques suffer from high computational demands for real-time …

Schools across the country have been screening their students for Body Mass Index for decades, based on the assumption that telling families about a student's weight would promote weight loss. Years of research has shown that BMI screenings don't actually have any impact on weight, but instead can be harmful to students' mental and emotional wellbeing. These harms can last for years into the future, in some cases. So, why are BMI screenings still such a common practice?https://schoolbmiscreenings.weebly.com/

High clean energy demand, dire need for sustainable development, and low carbon footprints are the few intuitive challenges, leading researchers to aim for research and development for high-performance energy devices. The development of materials used in energy devices is currently focused on enhancing the performance, electronic properties, and durability of devices. Tunning the attributes of transition metals using pyrophosphate (P2O7) ligand moieties can be a promising approach to meet the requirements of energy devices such as water electrolyzers and supercapacitors, although such a material’s configuration is rarely exposed for this purpose of study.
