Effect Of Harassment, Stereotypes, And Distractions On Female Driving Behavior In Egypt, Eman K. Ali, Sherif M. El-Badawy, Ragaa T. Abd El-Hakim

Mansoura Engineering Journal

Men and women are different in their driving behavior. The reasons for these differences vary from neurochemical structures, hormonal processes, to physical abilities for long driving hours or stress coming from accompanying children while driving. In Egypt and Middle East, female drivers face a diversity of challenges such as the stereotype that women are poor drivers. Moreover, there have been incidents when female drivers faced road harassments from other drivers, which may lead to accidents. In this research, data was collected from 1038 Egyptian female drivers in the age of 16 to 75 years old. The risk factors that play …

Opioid Crisis In Ohio, Alison Ringhiser, Caleb Clayton Sep 2023

Opioid Crisis In Ohio, Alison Ringhiser, Caleb Clayton

Critical Questions

Chronic pain and unnecessary suffering affect many people and healthcare professionals often respond by giving their patients pain relief through a variety of means. Pain assessment goes alongside any vital test medical staff administer to patients, meaning that pain management comes next. Modern technologies allow for innovative practices to help treat patients experiencing chronic pain, but the most common pain-relief methodology is prescription pain-relievers. In the 1990s, opioids were marketed by pharmaceutical companies as reliable pain-relieving drugs. Concerns about their addictive potential were minimized, suggesting they were low-risk substances. Three decades later, evidence has mounted that Americans are in the …

Texas's "Operation Lone Star": The Supremacy Clause And Dual Federalism In Light Of Arizona V. United States, Reynaldo Ramirez, Jr Sep 2023

Texas's "Operation Lone Star": The Supremacy Clause And Dual Federalism In Light Of Arizona V. United States, Reynaldo Ramirez, Jr

Texas A&M Law Review

The Supremacy Clause of Article Six of the United States Constitution was enacted to remedy the failures of the Articles of Confederation. Initially, the states enjoyed near-boundless state sovereignty in nearly all aspects of the first federalist government. However, in practice, the necessity of federal supremacy for conducting the business of governing obligated the states to prioritize national interests above the states’ sovereignty. To do so required revision of the Articles of Confederation. This drafting culminated in the contentious ratification of the Constitution in 1788, including the Supremacy Clause and the Tenth Amendment. That said, ratifying the Supremacy Clause and …

The purpose of this transcendental, phenomenological study was to describe the lived experiences of educators with classroom-based crises at military-connected schools and the crisis prevention and intervention training they have received. Learning Science: Physical And Life Sciences In Curricula Across U.S. Schools Of Nursing, Valerie C. Sauda Sep 2023

Learning Science: Physical And Life Sciences In Curricula Across U.S. Schools Of Nursing, Valerie C. Sauda

Dissertations

Nursing educators are being challenged to provide curriculum that meets the changing healthcare environment and demand for creative, innovative nurses to assist in transforming healthcare into the future (Benner, Sutphen, Leonard, & Day, 2010; Institute Of Medicine, 2011). The liberal education provided within a baccalaureate of science in nursing (BSN) degree program provides a diversity of courses within the curriculum, including courses in the natural, physical, mathematical, and social sciences (American Association of Colleges of Nursing [AACN], 2008). Although nursing programs have included science courses in curriculum since the early 1900s (Nutting & Dock, 1907), there is lack of nursing …

The Deep Ecology Movement Sep 2023

The Deep Ecology Movement

The International Journal of Ecopsychology (IJE)

There are two great streams of environmentalism in the latter half of the twentieth century. One stream is reformist, attempting to control some of the worst of the air and water pollution and inefficient land use practices in industrialized nations and to save a few of the remaining pieces of wildlands as "designated wilderness areas." The other stream supports many of the reformist goals but is revolutionary, seeking a new metaphysics, epistemology, cosmology, and environmental ethics of person/planet. This paper is an intellectual archeology of the second of these streams of environmentalism, which I will call deep ecology.

Personal Life Security, Nonmonetary Benefits And Executive Compensation : Evidence From Stand Your Ground Laws, Zixuan Zeng

Lingnan Theses (MPhil & PhD)

People prefer an amenable location and companies have to pay a higher level of salary to their executives in a less livable place. Focusing on a particular aspect of livability, i.e. life security, we investigate whether life security condition in a region has an impact on CEOs’ compensation using the enactment of Stand Your Ground (SYG) laws in U.S. 26 states from 2003 to 2020 as an exogenous shock. SYG laws, which grant individuals the legal right to use lethal force in self-defense without the duty to retreat, have the potential to affect executives' perception of personal security and consequently, …

Promoting Positive Traffic Safety Culture In Riti Communities Through Active Engagement: Implementation Guide And Outreach Activities, Jacob Pehrson, Logan Prescott, Ahmed Abdel-Rahim

CSET Project Reports

RITI crash data analysis clearly highlights three major areas of concern: prevalence of excessive speed, impaired and distracted driving, and underage driving. Safety-focused educational programs and awareness campaigns have all contributed to a reduction in crashes in urban areas. However, in RITI communities, much more work is still needed. It is important that communities are provided with the proper resources and methods to deliver the appropriate training and educational tools that promote and cause a significant positive change in the traffic safety culture. Through reviewed literature and interviews with tribal community stakeholders, this research team came to understand that tribal …

African Conference on Information Systems and Technology

Effective communication plays a critical role in disaster management, encompassing both data gathering and information dissemination. This study examines the utilization of alternative technologies for communication during disasters, aiming to address the vulnerabilities of relying solely on social media platforms. To answer the research questions, a qualitative methodology employing an inductive approach was used to gather and analyze data from literature and officers working in disaster management organizations. The research findings reveal the efficacy of employing SMS, emails, phone calls, and other supporting technologies as viable alternatives for disaster communication.
