Generative Prior For Unsupervised Image Restoration, Ahmed Cheikh Sidiya Jan 2023

Generative Prior For Unsupervised Image Restoration, Ahmed Cheikh Sidiya

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

The challenge of restoring real world low-quality images is due to a lack of appropriate training data and difficulty in determining how the image was degraded. Recently, generative models have demonstrated great potential for creating high- quality images by utilizing the rich and diverse information contained within the model’s trained weights and learned latent representations. One popular type of generative model is the generative adversarial network (GAN). Many new methods have been developed to harness the information found in GANs for image manipulation. Our proposed approach is to utilize generative models for both understanding the degradation of an image and …

Investigation Of A Novel Foliar Disease On Maackia Amurensis In North Dakota And Its Subsequent Survey, Sarah Elizabeth Steffen Jan 2023

Investigation Of A Novel Foliar Disease On Maackia Amurensis In North Dakota And Its Subsequent Survey, Sarah Elizabeth Steffen

Plant Sciences

A new, undescribed pathogen was observed on Maackia amurensis (Amur maackia or Chinese yellow wood) trees in Fargo, North Dakota, over the course of four growing seasons from 2016 to 2020. Affected trees showed visual signs of necrotic lesions ringed with a yellow halo of various sizes on leaves which began in midsummer and persisted into the fall. Diseased material was collected in October 2020, from which single spore isolations were taken. After a third-party DNA analysis, the causal agent was tentatively identified as an Alternaria species. Curious about the full extent of the host and fungal pathogen, a survey …

Advances In Prosthetic Technology: A Perspective On Ethical Considerations For Development And Clinical Translation, Hayden Gavette, Cody L Mcdonald, Kristin Kostick-Quenet, Ashley Mullen, Bijan Najafi, M G Finco Jan 2023

Advances In Prosthetic Technology: A Perspective On Ethical Considerations For Development And Clinical Translation, Hayden Gavette, Cody L Mcdonald, Kristin Kostick-Quenet, Ashley Mullen, Bijan Najafi, M G Finco

Faculty, Staff and Students Publications

Technological advancements of prostheses in recent years, such as haptic feedback, active power, and machine learning for prosthetic control, have opened new doors for improved functioning, satisfaction, and overall quality of life. However, little attention has been paid to ethical considerations surrounding the development and translation of prosthetic technologies into clinical practice. This article, based on current literature, presents perspectives surrounding ethical considerations from the authors' multidisciplinary views as prosthetists (HG, AM, CLM, MGF), as well as combined research experience working directly with people using prostheses (AM, CLM, MGF), wearable technologies for rehabilitation (MGF, BN), machine learning and artificial intelligence …
