Biological Adaptations Leading To Metastatic Potential In Ovarian Cancer, Hussein Chehade Jan 2023

Biological Adaptations Leading To Metastatic Potential In Ovarian Cancer, Hussein Chehade

Wayne State University Dissertations

Ovarian cancer induces most deaths from gynecological cancers. Patients succumb due to heavy metastatic tumor burden, which accounts for 90% of cancer related deaths and is characterized by the dissemination of malignant cells from primary tumor to secondary site(s), partaking in cancer progression. Ovarian cancer progression is an extremely demanding process that requires cancer cells to be able to survive anoikis conditions and be metabolically flexible to survive microenvironmental changes during transit to a secondary site. Mitochondrial Nuclear Retrograde Regulator 1 (MNRR1) is a bi-organellar protein primarily present in the mitochondria by which it can prevent apoptosis and/or enhance mitochondrial …

The Urdu-speaking community in Bangladesh, commonly known as the “Biharis” or “Stranded Pakistanis,” has been living in distressing circumstances. Despite the Supreme Court of Bangladesh declaring Urdu-speakers citizens of the country in 2008, there continues to be challenges related to their integration prospects. The community still faces widespread discrimination, primarily because of the Bangladeshi bureaucracy’s systemic neglect and the community’s former refugee and stateless status. This study examines to what extent Urdu-speakers are now able to enjoy full citizenship rights. It also assesses the government of Bangladesh’s existing policies and the relationship between citizenship and the law, comprising of both …

The Use Of Membrane Filtration To Increase Native Whey Protein In Infant Formula, And Effects On Bioaccessibility And Bioactivity, Yihong Chen

Theses

Breastfeeding is recognised as the gold standard for feeding newborns and infants. However, infants who cannot be breast-fed or for whom breast milk is not available, can be fed with bovine infant milk formula (IMF) as a substitute. Researchers and producers of IMF strive to continually improve or “humanise” the composition and functionality of IMF. During production of IMF it must undergo several heat treatment steps, e.g. heat-sterilisation or spray-drying, in order to provide a safe product to the infant. These heat treatments denature the globular whey proteins in IMF. In contrast, breast milk is by its nature unheated, so …
