Enhancement Of Developmental Defects In The Boron-Deficient Maize Mutant Tassel-Less1 By Reduced Auxin Levels, Michaela S. Matthes, Norman B. Best, Janlo M. Robil, Paula Mcsteen
Biology Faculty Publications
Background
Plant responses to deficiencies of the micronutrient boron are diverse and go beyond the well-characterized function of boron in cell wall crosslinking. To explain these phenotypic discrepancies, hypotheses about interactions of boron with various phytohormones have been proposed, particularly auxin. While these hypotheses are intensely tested in the root meristem of the model species, Arabidopsis thaliana, studies in crop species and the shoot are limited.
Aims
To address potential boron–auxin interactions during the vegetative and reproductive development of the crop maize (Zea mays), we utilized the boron-deficient tassel-less1 (tls1) mutant and the auxin-deficient vanishing tassel2 (vt2) mutant. We investigated …

Role Of Vitamin D, Folate, And Cobalamin Deficiency In Mycobacterium Avium Paratuberculosis Infection And Inflammation, Joseph Vaccaro
Electronic Theses and Dissertations, 2020-2023
Vitamin D, folate, and cobalamin (vitamin B12) are crucial micronutrients in human physiology that are necessary for healthy calcium, phosphorus, and single-carbon metabolism. Recent studies have indicated that these vitamins also affect the inflammatory response in ways unrelated to their well-characterized deficiencies. Accordingly, analysis of their effect on chronic inflammatory diseases like Crohn's disease (CD) is warranted. This investigation examines the effects of vitamin deficiency on macrophages and intestinal epithelial cells upon exposure to Mycobacterium avium paratuberculosis (MAP,) a pathogen capable of triggering CD, to model the inflammatory response in clinical CD patients. ELISA analysis of CD patient plasma established …
Are You Ready To Engage? The Impact Of Decisional Conflict On Advance Directives Education, Marcia Brown
Are You Ready To Engage? The Impact Of Decisional Conflict On Advance Directives Education, Marcia Brown
Department of Conflict Resolution Studies Theses and Dissertations
End-of-Life (EOL) refers to medical support given to those facing death and advance directives (AD) is a document that helps to distinguish the nature of that support. The literature suggests conflict is a barrier in the advance care planning (ACP) process and if it remains unresolved in the absence of an AD, there is prolongation of unwanted treatment, increased costs, and lower quality of care. The purpose of this research was to uncover decisional conflict and determine the usefulness of ACP engagement factors in faith communities through a unique intervention – CADE (Conflict and Advance Directives Education). Three theories – …
The Problematizing Of Teen Pregnancy Is A Feminist Issue, Amy E. Nourie
The Problematizing Of Teen Pregnancy Is A Feminist Issue, Amy E. Nourie
The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare
Teen pregnancy has long been considered a social and moral problem in the United States. Politicians and community organizations have repeatedly attempted to ameliorate this social issue by enacting legislation and promoting educational campaigns for prevention. These campaigns and legislative measures mention the long-term consequences of bearing a child as a young woman, though they fail to discuss how and why teenage pregnancy became an American issue in the first place. While feminists critique public responses to motherhood and mothering, teen pregnancy is not necessarily seen as a feminist issue. The problematizing of teen pregnancy in American social history, however, …
