African lion (Panthera leo) being most attractive but vulnerable exhibit of zoos and safaris; need particular attention to breeding plans. At captive sites, lioness neglects newborns commonly; at that stage, hand rearing is preferred. This study will highlight the best practices for hand-rearing lion cubs, including knowledge of early medical issues along with their treatment during the first 4 months of growth. 34 lions (08Male: 17Females: 9Cubs) were housed on 15 acres during 2019-21 at Safari Zoo Lahore. A total of 04 lionesses were found entirely abandoned to 05 newborns (03 males & 02 females). The hand-rearing period …

Journal of Bioresource Management
Feathers are a waste product of the poultry industry and are considered a major pollutant of the environment. Soil associated with poultry farms is a rich source of indigenous bacteria that are involved in biodegradation of keratin of the feathers of Gallus gallus domesticus. The present study was designed to understand the role of microbes in the degradation of a feather’s keratin and its possible utilization as a bio-protein for plants. In our studies, Keratinolytic activity was high at 37-45 ℃ and at 7.5-9.5 pH. Pseudomonas aeruginosa was identified by 16S rRNA sequencing as the most active keratinolytic strain. …

Sea urchins, soft-shelled invertebrates (Echinoderms), crucially contribute to cleaning the ocean bottom. However, sea urchins in tropical waters like Indonesia have not yet been fully disclosed. This study was conducted at Hutumuri and Rutong waters, Ambon City. This study assessed physical-chemical parameters, sea urchin species composition, classification, and community structure. Employing the Line Transect method with 5x5 m quadrants and 50m transect spacing, data analysis included density, relative density, frequency of presence, diversity, uniformity, and dominance indices. Results indicated normal temperature and salinity at both stations, supporting sea urchin life, with rocky and sandy substrates deemed suitable. A total of …

Venue Safety Strategies: Guardrails And The Line-Of-Sight Exemption, Gil Fried, Aneurin Grant
Journal of Applied Sport Management
This piece represents a focused article on safety issues connected to railings at sporting events and why there needs to be considerable action taken to protect fans. Specifically, the authors believe the current line-of-sight exception (minimum 26") allows for railings that are dangerously inadequate to protect fans. It is argued that if sport facility managers and or venues do not proactively address this railing height issue, then architects, building inspectors, and others should seek to change the building code to eliminate the fans continued exposure to unnecessary hazards.
Advancing Polymer Sustainability Through Custom Interpenetrating Polymer Network Synthesis, Processing, And Design, Alexandra Maria Lehman-Chong
Advancing Polymer Sustainability Through Custom Interpenetrating Polymer Network Synthesis, Processing, And Design, Alexandra Maria Lehman-Chong
Theses and Dissertations
The need for improving polymer sustainability is as ubiquitous as the role of polymers in modern society. Interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) design flexibility offers opportunities for improved polymer sustainability while balancing desired polymer properties for various applications. This work investigates the structure-property-processing relationships of IPNs judiciously designed under the framework of the polymer life cycle. Sustainable polymer design was largely considered at the feedstock and manufacturing stages while considering overall polymer performance. Chemicals from bio-based feedstocks were used to design a full simultaneous polybenzoxazine-epoxy IPN, focusing on the effects of monomer and polymer structure on polymer properties. Processing-property relationships were …

Reducing Food Scarcity: The Benefits Of Urban Farming, S.A. Claudell, Emilio Mejia
Journal of Nonprofit Innovation
Urban farming can enhance the lives of communities and help reduce food scarcity. This paper presents a conceptual prototype of an efficient urban farming community that can be scaled for a single apartment building or an entire community across all global geoeconomics regions, including densely populated cities and rural, developing towns and communities. When deployed in coordination with smart crop choices, local farm support, and efficient transportation then the result isn’t just sustainability, but also increasing fresh produce accessibility, optimizing nutritional value, eliminating the use of ‘forever chemicals’, reducing transportation costs, and fostering global environmental benefits.

Colon Targeted Delivery Dosage Forms For Probiotics: A Review, Gede Anom Anjasmara, Pietradewi Hartrianti, Raditya Iswandana
Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research
Encapsulation was a promising method for protecting probiotics from extreme conditions during their passage through the gastrointestinal tract and delivering probiotics to specific sites in the colon for colonization. Various dosage forms have been used in recent years to encapsulate probiotics to maintain cell viability during processing, storage, and through the digestive tract to provide health benefits. However, research related to the encapsulation of probiotics as the dosage forms for colon-targeted delivery systems was still quite limited to conventional dosage forms due to the sensitivity of probiotics to extreme conditions during the process. This review focuses on various types of …

Improvements Of The Control System For The Technological Process Of Drying Bulk Materials, Azizbek Nodirbekovich, Dilmurod Ikromovich
Chemical Technology, Control and Management
The issues of convective drying of bulk materials as objects of monitoring, control and advanced management are presented based on the results of simulation modeling of a complex heat and mass transfer process, taking into account the drying kinetics. As a result of the work of a number of them, in the last few decades neat hypotheses were formed about moisture migration in and around dried materials, which led to the creation of accurate mathematical models of drying behavior, with successfully applied in a wide range of fields. The reasons for this are the dynamics of processes in the drying …

Despite ongoing efforts and commitment to reducing Low Birth Weight (LBW) babies, globally, the incidence of LBW has stagnated. This study uses a combined factor of maternal and husband/partner education variables to analyze the complexity of LBW incidents. This research uses secondary data from the 2017 SDKI with a multilevel logistic regression analysis method to look at the relationship between the similarity of parental education and the baby's birth weight at the individual and community levels. The results of the research show that mothers who have husbands/partners with equivalent education and higher education (≥high school or equivalent) have a lower …
