The Lived Experience Of Older Nepalese Women With Urinary Incontinence, Somi Panday Sep 2023

The Lived Experience Of Older Nepalese Women With Urinary Incontinence, Somi Panday

Dissertations

Urinary incontinence (UI) poses a significant challenge for women across different cultures, as their diverse perceptions of UI impact their decision-making and choices, which are influenced by personal beliefs and preferences. Although research on women's experiences with urinary incontinence has shown substantial progress, encompassing various cultural contexts, more studies are still needed to examine cultural factors and employ the framework of transcultural nursing theory. Additionally, limited research has explored the experiences of older women with urinary incontinence in Nepal. This descriptive phenomenological study aims to explore the lived experience of older Nepalese women dealing with urinary incontinence. By applying the …

The Nursing Process And Allegations Of Malpractice Against Perinatal Registered Nurses In Florida, Genifer Jones Johnson

Dissertations

The nursing process as a foundation of professional nursing practice organizes care around the components of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation as required for professional registered nurses by the Florida Nurse Practice Act. Nurses who fail to comply with the Nurse Practice Act risk poor outcomes for their clients, disciplinary action from the State regulatory body, and legal action from the clients. This study was an examination of litigation claims against professional registered nurses in Florida who practice perinatal nursing seeking to identify and categorize allegations of negligence within the components of the nursing process. The expectation of this …

Innovations In Health-Care Service Delivery During The Pandemic, Taryn Vian, Ankita Meghani Phd

Nursing and Health Professions Faculty Research and Publications

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted health service delivery as countries implemented lockdowns and issued stay-at-home orders. Despite attempts to make essential health services available throughout, the pandemic strained health systems and resulted in rampant shortages of health commodities, beds and health-care staff. There were concomitant declines in tuberculosis screening, HIV testing, and maternal and child health services.2 However, the global pandemic also accelerated the pace of innovation. Some initiatives served as stopgap measures implemented to maintain health services, whereas others helped leapfrog progress in the areas of health information systems, telemedicine, and regulatory policy, bringing efficiencies that could be applied even …

Pica: The Mysterious Eating Disorder, James Ferrante, Justin Fisher, Tara Sung, Spencer Wenzel

Discovery Day

Background. ‘Pica’ is the Latin word for magpie, a bird that ingests inedible substances. The DSM-V defines pica as a disorder of persistent eating of nonnutritive, nonfood substances over a period of at least one month. Although pica is a disorder that affects a widespread population, it is seen as a social anomaly which prevents patients from admitting their behavior. As the behavior continues unnoticed and untreated, patients will experience the adverse effects of ingesting foreign materials. Thus, healthcare providers and family members should educate themselves on pica’s etiologies and manifestations to prevent complications and avoid unnecessary hospitalizations.

The Classification Of Obesity Based On Metabolic Status Redefines The Readmission Of Non-Hodgkin’S Lymphoma—An Observational Study, Eunju Kim, Kazuaki Mawatari, Seung-Hee Yoo, Zheng Chen

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

Obesity is a known risk factor for metabolic diseases and is often associated with chronic inflammation in adipose tissue. We previously identified the polyethoxylated flavonoid Nobiletin (NOB) as a circadian clock modulator that directly binds to and activates the ROR receptors in the core oscillator, markedly improving metabolic fitness in obese mice. Here, we show that NOB enhanced the oscillation of core clock genes in differentiated 3T3-L1 adipocytes, including ROR target genes such as Bmal1, Cry1, Dec1, and Dec2. NOB inhibited lipid accumulation in 3T3-L1 and SVF cells, concomitant with the dysregulated circadian expression of adipogenic …
