Evaluating The Effectiveness Of Family-Based Treatment Education On Provider's Knowledge, Anticipatory Use, And Attitudes Who Treat Adolescent Patients Diagnosed With Anorexia Nervosa, Treven Back
DNP Projects
Background. Anorexia Nervosa is a chronic, disabling, and costly disease with a higher mortality rate than any other psychiatric illness. Because of the need for medical, psychiatric, and nutritional care, treatment is complex. The current literature supports Family-Based Treatment as a first-line treatment for adolescent patients diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa. However, a gap exists between translating family-based treatments into clinical practice. Literature shows that education and understanding providers' attitudes and beliefs are the first steps to successfully implementing family-based treatments.
Purpose. This DNP project aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a family-based treatment education intervention on providers' attitudes, knowledge, and …

Impact Of Physical Activity Vital Sign Screening On Physical Activity Counseling And Referrals In Primary Care, Anna Selepina
DNP Projects
Background/Purpose: Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans recommend 150-300 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity each week for adults; however, half of the adults do not meet this goal, which leads to increased chronic health conditions and poor health outcomes. The physical activity vital sign (PAVS) screening tool is an evidence-based assessment tool associated with increased physical activity counseling, which can lead to increased physical activity and improved patient outcomes.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of PAVS screening on physical activity counseling and referrals in primary care.
Methods: This prospective study took place in a small …
Evaluating The Effect Of Electronic Health Record Patient Portal Use On Medication Adherence In Adults With Chronic Conditions, Jennifer Averbeck
Evaluating The Effect Of Electronic Health Record Patient Portal Use On Medication Adherence In Adults With Chronic Conditions, Jennifer Averbeck
DNP Projects
Background Medication non-adherence is prevalent among fifty percent of the United States population. This behavior leads to increased morbidity and mortality as well as increased healthcare costs for both the patient and the healthcare system. More than two-thirds of nonadherence exists in those aged over 65 years old who are diagnosed with Multiple Chronic Conditions (MCC). Several studies have researched and trialed interventions to improve rates of adherence, limit poor health outcomes, and decrease overall cost of care. The patient portal is an interactive tool which encourages participation of the patient in their healthcare management. Implementation of this tool has …

Diabetes At A Glance: Assessing Ai Strategies For Early Diabetes Detection And Intervention, Ban Salman Shukur, Noorayisahbe Mohd Yaacob, Mohamed Doheir
Mesopotamian Journal of Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare
For the early identification of diabetes, a chronic illness that affects millions of people globally, artificial intelligence (AI) shows enormous promise. AI algorithms can recognize diabetes signs and give patients and healthcare providers early warnings by examining a variety of data sources, such as medical records, patient histories, and lifestyle factors. AI's capacity to evaluate sizable and intricate datasets is one of its main advantages in the diagnosis of diabetes. AI is capable of taking into account a broad range of variables that could lead to diabetes, such as age, BMI, food preferences, physical activity, and genetic predisposition. Artificial intelligence …
Molecular Analysis Of Epigenetic Memory Of Stress Establishment And Long-Term Maintenance In A Perennial Woody Plant, Jia Wen Tan
Molecular Analysis Of Epigenetic Memory Of Stress Establishment And Long-Term Maintenance In A Perennial Woody Plant, Jia Wen Tan
Theses and Dissertations--Plant and Soil Sciences
Plants adapt to extreme environmental conditions through physiological adaptations, which are usually transient. Recent research has suggested that environmental conditions can activate a memory of stress that can result in a primed response to subsequent stress events. While the effect of priming has been observed in many plants, the underlying mechanisms are puzzling and seldom studied. A large body of research has been developed in the last decade linking response to stress, stress priming, and memory of stress with epigenetic mechanisms. This understanding of plant epigenetics has opened the door to the application of epigenetics to crop improvement, such as …
Building A Kentucky Baguette: Agronomic Traits, Bread Baking Quality Measurements, And Sensory Evaluation Of Modern And Landrace Wheat Cultivars Grown Under Conventional And Organic Nitrogen Management, Bryan Brady
Theses and Dissertations--Plant and Soil Sciences
The demand by artisan bread bakers across the United States for local wheat varieties has increased in recent years. The southeast is traditionally a soft winter wheat (SWW) region, producing low gluten flours more suitable for biscuits and cookies. Recently, hard winter wheat (HWW) varieties have been bred to produce acceptable yields in the high humidity environment of the southeastern United States. Artisan bread bakers in Kentucky would like to create a niche food value chain benefitting farmers, small-scale millers, bakers, consumers, and their local and regional food systems (LRFS). The increased demand and the availability of adapted hard wheat …

The complexities of climate change have infiltrated every facet of life. From environmental preservation and food production to employment opportunities and policymaking, climate plays a role. These respective touchpoints have a direct connection to the Farm Bill. This law serves as the crux of agricultural programs and cements the relationship between farmers and the federal government. What began as a safety net following the Great Depression has expanded into a multi-title behemoth that now regulates nutrition assistance, rural economic development initiatives, and everything in between. In recent years, thought leaders such as the Farm Bill Law Enterprise have brought climate-centered …

The Past And Future In International Patent Law, Rochelle C. Dreyfuss
Cardozo Arts & Entertainment Law Journal
The organizers of the 2022 International Law Weekend asked us to consider how our fields have changed in the last century and to offer our thoughts about the future. For intellectual property, the changes have been formidable. The Industrial Revolution gave way to an Information Revolution. As a result, knowledge products now constitute a significant share of global wealth. And as the world increasingly endures crises like the recent pandemic, climate change, and food and energy insecurity, technological information will become even more important-indeed, crucial to the survival of the planet.
My own field is international patent law, where there …
Net Positive: Imposing A Duty To Warn On Baseball Stadium Operators, Eric Rothman
Net Positive: Imposing A Duty To Warn On Baseball Stadium Operators, Eric Rothman
Cardozo Arts & Entertainment Law Journal
The note argues that the Baseball Rule, which shields stadium operators from liability for foul ball injuries if they provide minimal protections, is outdated and inadequate given modern conditions. It proposes modifying the rule to include a duty to warn spectators of each foul ball as it is hit, drawing on Japan's successful implementation of a real-time warning system. This approach balances spectator safety with the preservation of baseball's unique fan experience.

Re-Regulating Dietary Supplements, Jessie L. Bekker, Alex Flores, Michael S. Sinha
All Faculty Scholarship
In 1994, Congress introduced the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) to create a regulatory framework for the dietary supplement industry. Since the passage of DSHEA nearly thirty years ago, U.S. adults have steadily increased their annual consumption of dietary supplements. The once $4 billion industry comprising approximately 4,000 products has swelled to a $40 billion trade with anywhere from 50,000 to 80,000 dietary supplements available over-the-counter.
Despite the increased market size of dietary supplements, the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) pre-market authority to regulate the introduction of dietary supplements into the stream of commerce has remained subdued. Under …

Food Environment Intervention And Dietary Impacts In Blue Zones Project Communities On The Island Of Hawai'i, Katherine Fuller
Food Environment Intervention And Dietary Impacts In Blue Zones Project Communities On The Island Of Hawai'i, Katherine Fuller
Public Health Theses
ABSTRACTBackground: High intake of fruits and vegetables is associated with many health benefits including a lower risk of incident hypertension, heart disease, stroke, obesity, Alzheimer’s, and dementia. Dietary choices are impacted by a variety of individual socio-psychological and environmental factors. For this reason, Blue Zones Project (BZP) hypothesized that a multilevel intervention combining psychological, social, and environmental factors would have the largest impact on eating behaviors compared to a single-level approach. We assessed the impact of a BZP food environment intervention on fruit and vegetable intake and food insecurity among adults on the island of Hawai’i (or the Big Island). …
