For many organizations, employee engagement is a major component that drives a business’s productivity, performance, and profitability. Some healthcare leaders lack strategies to engage employees. The participants were eight healthcare leaders in a greater Atlanta, Georgia, healthcare facility who successfully implemented strategies to engage employees. Data were collected from Press Ganey quarterly engagement scores and semistructured interviews. Data were analyzed using Yin’s five-phase process, from which three themes emerged: (a) mentorship, (b) leadership, and (c) teamwork. …

Stories Of Licensed Counseling Supervisors Who Identify As Wounded Healers, Carolyn Litteral

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Although a large percentage of counselors who are wounded healers eventually become clinical counseling supervisors, little is known about the effects on clinical supervision. The purpose of the current qualitative narrative study was to identify the stories of wounded healers as clinical counseling supervisors to recognize how supervision is affected and influenced by being a wounded healer. Criminology And Violent Extremist Radicalization, Starlett Michele Martin

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

After the 9/11 terrorist attacks, research on foreign terrorism became extensive in the United States while research on domestic terrorism and violent extremist radicalization was lacking. Despite the research that has been done, there was a lapse in scholarship analyzing terrorism radicalization and its relationship with criminology. The purpose of this general qualitative study was to analyze the perceptions of experts in terrorism and criminology about how factors of criminology can explain violent extremist radicalization. This study used two conceptual models of terrorism radicalization: (a) the staircase to terrorism and the (b) 4-stage model of the terrorist mindset. In addition, …

A Quantitative Comparison Of Mass Shooting Offenders Who Preemptively Used Social Media, Heidi Mathis

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The purpose of this quantitative study was to compare the characteristics of offenders who posted on social media for attention versus those who posted on social media for fame using discriminant factorial analysis (DFA). To date, there has been very little research done on social media usage with regards to mass shootings. The wealth of the research close to the study at hand has to do with not naming the offender and the media contingency effect. The current research helped close some of that gap. Researching social media usage and mass shootings showed how the variables: location, rejection, mental health …

Relationship Between Country Culture, Country Demographics, And Restaurant Electronic Word-Of-Mouth Valence Ratings, Cynthia Roberts Maubert

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Researchers have documented that country culture and country demographics influence electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM) within various industries. Although past research has shown the importance of eWOM to restaurants as a measure of consumer satisfaction, researchers have not established the effect of country culture and country demographics on eWOM within the restaurant industry. Thus, the specific management problem addressed in this quantitative correlational study was the lack of knowledge and understanding regarding the relationship between country culture, country demographics, and restaurant eWOM valence ratings. Grounded in Hofstede’s cultural dimensions theory, the research questions addressed six measures of country culture, 12 measures of …

Strategies For Improving Supply Chain Management In United Nations Peacekeeping Missions, Mirjana Mazar

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Managers of the United Nation’s humanitarian operations are under rigid pressure to deliver their programs efficiently due to 75% of supply chains experiencing disruptions, accounting for 60 to 80% of the expenses due to limited funding and increasing scrutiny by member states. Humanitarian operations are inextricably linked to the performance of a supply chain. Therefore, if the supply chain managers in the United Nations (UN) fail to understand and adopt dynamic capabilities, they can experience operational underperformance, affecting trust from financial supporters. Grounded on dynamic capability theory, the purpose of this qualitative multiple-case study was to explore strategies that executive …

U.S. employers have reported that many college graduates are underprepared in written communication when hired and that lack of preparedness hinders these graduates’ employment success. Higher education institution (HEI) administrators need information regarding which writing skills should be taught across the curriculum to improve student outcomes. Maternal-Early-Warning-System Education To Improve Registered Nurse Knowledge Of And Appropriate Responses To Triggers, Dawn Marie Moore

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The maternal early warning system (MEWS) is the single most reliable response tool to improve maternal outcomes in obstetrics. Recognition and response by nurses to the MEWS triggers was worrisome at the project site as the MEWS trigger to detect changes in the clinical conditions in obstetric patients was not applied consistently at the bedside. This project was developed to evaluate whether providing an education program on the application of MEWS to nurses in obstetrics at the practicum site would improve registered nurses’ knowledge of and appropriate responses to the MEWS trigger alarms. A literature search targeting the key words …

Parenting From Juvenile Confinement: Adults’ Reflections On Their Juvenile Experience, Lakeasha R. Moore Jan 2023

Parenting From Juvenile Confinement: Adults’ Reflections On Their Juvenile Experience, Lakeasha R. Moore

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

AbstractMass incarceration in the United States has resulted in an estimated 19.7 million youth living in fatherless homes. Incarcerated juvenile fathers are contributing to that number. Juvenile fathers who are incarcerated is a socially pertinent topic with significant implications, yet child developmental scholars understudy it. This phenomenological qualitative study was conducted to fill this gap by exploring the lived experiences of adults who, as juveniles, were incarcerated fathers and how they coped with social and emotional stressors while attempting to balance adolescence and defining fatherhood. Five adult males were interviewed and asked a series of four demographic and 18 semistructured …

All internet connected organizations are becoming increasingly vulnerable to cyberattacks due to information security policy noncompliance of personnel.
