Bio-Inspired Memory Device Based Physical Reservoir Computing System To Solve Temporal And Classification Problems, Md Razuan Hossain Jan 2023

Bio-Inspired Memory Device Based Physical Reservoir Computing System To Solve Temporal And Classification Problems, Md Razuan Hossain

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

In recent years, technological advancements in the field of computing have been limited by the slowing down of Moore’s law, which predicts the doubling of the number of transistors on a microchip every two years. The limitations of traditional solid-state electronics have become increasingly evident, as it is becoming difficult to increase the number of transistors while maintaining their reliability and performance. The breakdown of Dennard Scaling, which describes the power-density relationship in CMOS transistors, and the von Neumann bottleneck, which refers to the limited bandwidth between the central processing unit (CPU) and memory, have further exacerbated the situation. Moreover, …

Theoretical Spectroscopy Of Electronically Excited States, Megan Christina Davis

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Modelling of spectroscopic properties is useful for detection of species which are di_- cult to study in the laboratory. Full reproduction of electronic spectra depends upon reliable spectroscopic data of electronically excited states. However, no means of producing accurate fundamental vibrational frequencies of these states exist. This doctoral work consists of applications of theoretical spectra for prediction and identification of novel species as well as attempts to extend this methodology to effectively treat electronically excited states. The former includes the study of conformers of methanediol and a set of [Al,N,C,O] isomers. The latter is done using equation-of-motion theory to form …

Study Of Bounds For Effective Moduli Of Polycrystals And Composites Using Variational Principle For Probabilistic Measures, Md. Tofiqul Islam

Wayne State University Dissertations

Tensors that are invariant with respect to subgroups of 3D group of rotations were constructed first by Lokhin and Sedov (J. Appl. Math. Mech. (PMM), 1963, 27, 597-629). In this paper we do one more step and derive formulas for the elastic modulus tensors for all symmetry groups from the Lokhin-Sedov results. The tensor basis obtained in this way has an advantage of being built upon the same tensors that are used in construction of nonlinear tensor functions. One consequence of the formulas derived is that the number of types of anisotropic elastic behaviors is ten. There is a long- …

Motion Sensors And Instrumentation Based On Electrochemical Redox Reaction, Xiaoce Feng

Wayne State University Dissertations

To detect human body vital physiological signals, an electrochemical wearable sensor and a single-mode artificial mechanoreceptor have been developed and their capabilities to detect cardiorespiratory signals, as well as to detect rapid adaptive and slow adaptive responses have been preliminarily demonstrated. The electrochemical method based on I-/I3- redox couple proves to be a sensitive transduction mechanism. Furthermore, a common gate transimpedance amplifier based on gallium nitride high electron mobility transistor for the mechano-acoustic sensor and the wearable mechanoreceptor was developed. The transistor’s performance at high temperatures has been investigated, and its failure mode at high temperature has been discussed.

Cardiolipin Metabolism Regulates Expression Of Muscle Transcription Factor Myod1 And Muscle Development, Linh Vo

Wayne State University Dissertations

The mitochondrial phospholipid cardiolipin (CL) is critical for numerous essential biological processes, including mitochondrial dynamics and energy metabolism. Mutations in the CL remodeling enzyme TAFAZZIN cause Barth syndrome (BTHS), a life-threatening genetic disorder that results in severe physiological defects, including cardiomyopathy, skeletal myopathy, and neutropenia. Although fatigue is among the most debilitating self-reported symptoms of BTHS patients, the mechanistic links whereby CL deficiencies lead to skeletal myopathy and defective muscle formation are not known. In this thesis, using the TAFAZZIN-knockout (TAZ-KO) mouse myoblast C2C12 model, I aimed to elucidate the mechanism of muscle differentiation defect in these cells. We carried …

The Story Within Lessons: Highlighting Moments Of Student Inquiry, Amanda Huffman Hayes

Indiana STEM Education Conference

The curricular decisions of K-12 mathematics teachers affect student learning. One way to make sense of this is to find the story within the lesson. Writing the story of a lesson by identifying the plot, characters, settings, and actions reveals the questions that drive student mathematical curiosity and inquiry (Dietiker, 2015). Drawing attention to these moments provides a new perspective for teachers as they plan, teach, and reflect on their lessons and work to improve their instruction for their students as they see the possible advantages and disadvantages of the ordering of mathematical tasks. This work extends Dietiker’s thinking through …

Focus groups explored reactions to warning messages accompanied by different types of maps. Overall, the standard ShakeAlert message was associated with worse message outcomes compared to messages that …

A Hierarchical Approach To Improve The Ant Colony Optimization Algorithm, Bryan J. Fischer Jan 2023

A Hierarchical Approach To Improve The Ant Colony Optimization Algorithm, Bryan J. Fischer

EWU Masters Thesis Collection

The ant colony optimization algorithm (ACO) is a fast heuristic-based method for finding favorable solutions to the traveling salesman problem (TSP). When the data set reaches larger values however, the ACO runtime increases dramatically. As a result, clustering nodes into groups is an effective way to reduce the size of the problem while leveraging the advantages of the ACO algorithm. The method for recombining groups of nodes is explored by treating the graph as a hierarchy of clusters, and modifying the original ACO heuristic to operate on a hypergraph. This method of using hierarchical clustering is significantly faster than the …

Swarm Intelligence For Solving Some Nonlinear Differential Equations, Ahmed Elzaghal, Mohammed Mohammed Elgamal, Ahmed H. Eltanboly

Mansoura Engineering Journal

The Euler method is a well-known numerical technique employed for solving initial value problems of ordinary differential equations. The solution obtained through Euler's method is subject to significant inaccuracies, which tend to amplify with each successive iteration. The Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm is a highly effective method for finding optimal solutions to both linear and nonlinear optimization problems. In this particular investigation, the PSO technique was utilized to solve initial value problems associated with ordinary differential equations. The Euler method, on the other hand, employs equidistant grid points to approximate solutions, which can result in significant errors and a …
