Beyond Words: Fine Arts And Performance Art As Self-Expression For Developmentally Delayed Students, Elizabeth Maureen Ketz
Beyond Words: Fine Arts And Performance Art As Self-Expression For Developmentally Delayed Students, Elizabeth Maureen Ketz
All Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This thesis explores the research behind the implementation of special education curriculum in dance and music. Music education and dance have been shown to be effective means of self-expression, a necessary component of child development. Recent research in both areas has shown that including SPED students in both music and dance classes has shown a positive effect in their social emotional skills, ways to show self-expression, and ways to improve their communication both in an academic setting and a social setting. The results are most effective when the music or dance class shifts focus from skills-development and mastery, to creative, …

Neutrosophic Non-Linear Regression Based On Kuhn-Tucker Necessary Conditions, Mahmoud A. Abo-Sinna, Nagwa G. Ragab
Journal of Statistics Applications & Probability
Correlation coefficient and regression analysis are the most applied statistical approaches accessible in numerous disciplines due to its applicability and relevance. The neutrosophic sets found their place into recent research, whereas the world is full of indeterminacy. Kuhn-Tuckers necessary conditions are used to obtain the estimated parameters for non-linear regression models. This estimation procedure can use for any data set of non-linear regression models. We present, in this paper, the concepts of neutrosophic correlation and non-linear regression based on Kuhn-Tuckers necessary conditions. we provide some comparative studies between single-valued neutrosophic set and interval-valued neutrosophic set. Next, we apply scoring methods …

Democracy For Some: Greek-American Institutions And The Greek Junta, 1967-1974, Olga Koulisis
Democracy For Some: Greek-American Institutions And The Greek Junta, 1967-1974, Olga Koulisis
Commonwealth Review of Political Science
In 1967 a military junta took over Greece, silencing the democratic process in Democracy’s birthplace with the tacit approval of Democracy’s heir apparent, the United States of America. The tolerance, if not support, of Greek-American institutions to the establishment of the Greek Junta and the U.S. government’s support for that regime offers a case study of why democratic publics accept, if not bolster, their own government’s support for anti-democratic regimes. This case offers an intriguing juxtaposition because of the historical claims that U.S., Greek, and Greek diaspora identities make on democratic practice and commitment. This study examines how junta-tolerant Greek …

Crime, Documentation Status, And Content Analysis: Evidence From American Surveys Evaluating The Public’S Perception Of Deportations, Madelyn Einhorn
Commonwealth Review of Political Science
How does the public evaluate US deportations? This paper conducts two original, experimental surveys in the United States, asking the public about their perceptions of immigrant deportations from the US. The first section of this paper utilizes an experimental design to determine how documentation status and criminality impact the public’s views of deportations. The second section of this paper asks an open-ended question about perceptions of deportations and uses automatic content analysis to determine the emotional sentiment of respondents’ answers. This paper determines that Americans view deportations as an appropriate punitive measure for undocumented immigrants and immigrants who have committed …

Self-Omics: A Self-Supervised Learning Framework For Multi-Omics Cancer Data, Sayed Hashim, Karthik Nandakumar, Mohammad Yaqub
Computer Vision Faculty Publications
We have gained access to vast amounts of multi-omics data thanks to Next Generation Sequencing. However, it is challenging to analyse this data due to its high dimensionality and much of it not being annotated. Lack of annotated data is a significant problem in machine learning, and Self-Supervised Learning (SSL) methods are typically used to deal with limited labelled data. However, there is a lack of studies that use SSL methods to exploit inter-omics relationships on unlabelled multi-omics data. In this work, we develop a novel and efficient pre-training paradigm that consists of various SSL components, including but not limited …
Hidden In Plain Sight, Assessing Healthcare Provider Confidence In Identifying Human Trafficking In Their Patient Populations, Renea Hopple
Hidden In Plain Sight, Assessing Healthcare Provider Confidence In Identifying Human Trafficking In Their Patient Populations, Renea Hopple
DNP Projects
Healthcare providers unknowingly interact with patients involved in human trafficking. A literature review supports the presence of trafficked persons in the United States, the prevalence of their use of the healthcare system, and the lack of human trafficking knowledge among healthcare providers. A combination of high-risk behaviors, physical injuries, and mental offenses associated with human trafficking causes injuries, as well as mental and physical healthcare needs. Healthcare professionals are in a unique position to identify, intervene, and support the complex mental and physical healthcare needs of trafficked persons. However, this population of patients remains unrecognized by healthcare professionals. This practice …

Is Biological Death Final? Recomputing The Drake-S Equation For Postmortem Survival Of Consciousness, Adam J. Rock, James Houran, Patrizio E. Tressoldi, Brian Laythe
International Journal of Transpersonal Studies Advance Publication Archive
This participatory team science project extended Laythe and Houran’s (2022) prior application of a famous probabilistic argument known as the ‘Drake equation’ to the question of postmortem survival. Specifically, we evaluated effect sizes from peer-reviewed, empirical studies to determine the maximum average percentage effect that ostensibly supports (i.e., "anomalous effects") or refutes (i.e., "known confounds") the survival hypothesis. But unlike the earlier application, this research included a study-specific estimate of the hypothesized variable of ‘living agent psi’ via a new meta-analysis of empirical studies (N = 17) with exceptional subjects vs participants from the general population. Our updated analysis found …

Mandingo Parent Experiences And Language Use: A Phenomenological Study, Annet Asio Romain
Theses and Dissertations
This study examined first-generation Mandingo parents’ lived experiences in maintaining their native language with children 3–7 years old. A review of previous studies showed parents of dual language learner students had a positive attitude toward maintaining their native languages (M. Lee et al., 2015) and supporting bilingual programs in elementary school (Morgan, 2015). A phenomenological analysis method was used to gain an understanding of the participants’ lived experiences concerning language use with children ages 3–7 years inside and outside the home. The participants were selected using three criteria: they had to be first-generation Mandingo-speaking immigrants, they had to be willing …
Educating Business And Management Students: Using A Critical Management Lens To Learn From Chattel Slavery, Linda L. Ridley
Educating Business And Management Students: Using A Critical Management Lens To Learn From Chattel Slavery, Linda L. Ridley
Theses and Dissertations
The value of business school pedagogy has received increased attention in recent years (Delgado and Stefancic, 1992; Giacalone and Wargo, 2009; Podolny, 2009; Grier & Poole, 2020; Prieto & Phipps, 2021). This qualitative study examined the ability of higher education business faculty to include chattel slavery in the history of American business (Katznelson, 2005; Baptist, 2014;). Traditionally, the fundamentals of management teaching have been aligned with the belief that conventional management theories were developed separate and apart from the institution of chattel slavery and the management of race (Aufhauser, 1973; Cooke, 2003; Blackmon, 2008; Roediger & Esch, 2012). An interpretivist …
The Culturally Responsive Teacher, Tova Markowitz
The Culturally Responsive Teacher, Tova Markowitz
Theses and Dissertations
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, by 2060, the White population in the United States is projected to fall by more than 20 million people, while the Hispanic, Black, Asian, and Biracial populations are expected to increase (Vespa, 2020). There is a mismatch between the adopted curriculum and the student population. Are teachers prepared to teach the diverse students in their classrooms? To better understand the current status and to support the teachers, the study incorporated the work of Gay (2010, 2013, 2018), Ladson-Billings (1992, 1995, 2008, 2014), and Paris (2012) and examined the factors influencing culturally responsive teaching. Reclaiming Power. Activating Black Middle-Class Mother Engagement In The Committee On Special Education, Kellie M. Ramsey
Theses and Dissertations
From conversations in school hallways, to SEPTA meetings, to parking lots and church benches, Black middle-class parents have engaged in talk of disillusionment with the IEP development process for their special needs child. Previous literature has provided limited insight into the navigational capital of Black middle-class parents in the special education system. This author interviewed Black middle-class parents who felt overwhelmed by the IEP development process and came to utilize their cultural capital (Yosso, 2005) to overcome systemic barriers to their active engagement in the CSE (Ladson-Billings, 1995) and to explore opportunities they have had for positive interactions. Findings of …
