"Here's What's Not Changing": Institutional Adaptations That Respond To A Crisis But Preserve The Core, Hozami A. Helwani
Graduate Doctoral Dissertations
An enduring tension in the study of institutions is between the micro level of agents’ activities that shape institutions and the macro level of institutions as enduring entities that tend to resist change. Institutions in crisis offer opportunities to look at urgent and adaptive changes. I study an Islamic organization that is representative of a religious institution, which has deep traditions and meaningfulness to its members. In a time of crisis, in the urban area in the United States where it is located, the organization is pressed by external parties, such as government, media, and leaders from other religions, to …

Consumerism – Its Causes And Treatment - From The Perspective Of Badi' Al-Zaman Al-Nursi Through His Rasayil Al Nuwr, Farsat Abdullah Al-Warmili Prof.
UAEU Law Journal
This research deals with the concept of consumer wastefulness and the reasons behind it and ways to treat it in the thought of Badi' Al-Zaman Al-Nursi through his Rasayil Al nuwr. So, he spends excessively on his desires and pleasures, and his wrong interpretation of the meaning of (the caliphate in the land). Some people go beyond the limits of their agency and believe that money is theirs, so they waste and tamper with money without taking into account the solution and sanctity, and the individual loses planning and organization for his money in return for his spending.

This study, derived from my doctoral thesis on the Prophetic method in managing feelings of anger and its impact on parenting education, explores the definition of anger, its causes and effects, and the characteristics of the Prophetic approach to managing anger. The Prophetic approach provides the most comprehensive and critical foundations in the process of managing feelings of anger, suggesting that parents should adopt this method to set a positive example for their children. The study also posits that the most effective way to achieve a normal, positive society free of problems and behavioral deviations is through educating its members …

It clarifies their views on the authenticity of the Qur’an, allegations of its distortion, and the belief in its outward and inward aspects. It concluded that the Twelver Shiites rely on some myths and concepts not grounded in reality in their understanding of the Qur’an. Consumer Harms Arising From The Competition Dynamic Of E-Commerce Platforms In Malaysia, Tze Chin Ong Dr, Mei Fei Lee Ms., Norhoneydayati Abdul Manap, Zalina Abdul Halim Dr., Sridevi Thambapillay
International Journal on Consumer Law and Practice
The structure of the digital market of e-commerce platforms is dynamic, with a combination of characteristics such as strong network effects, concentrated multi-sided platforms, extreme economies of scale and scope, low marginal costs, and high data returns. These strong network externalities within the multisided e-commerce market make the competitive environment in e-commerce significantly different from the conventional monogamous market as they create gatekeeper positions favouring a few incumbent e-commerce platforms. In these circumstances, gatekeeper incumbent e-commerce platforms often set commercial conditions that have the effect of undermining other players and potential rivals within the ecosystem. In this regard, there has …

Towards A Post-Imperial And Global Ir?: Revisiting Khatami’S Dialogue Among Civilisations, Shabnam Holliday, Edward Wastnidge
School of Law, Humanities and Social Sciences
This article argues that Dialogue among Civilisations can be put forward as a crucial contribution to debates addressing IR’s Eurocentrism. It highlights the blurring of West/non-West, domestic/international, and imperial/post-imperial bifurcations. This is evident in three ways. First, Dialogue among Civilisations needs to be appreciated in Iran’s wider historical context and its multifaceted intellectual heritages. This demonstrates that the idea of the West as distinctly different from the East is problematic because of engagement between Iran and the so-called West. Second, Khatami’s intellectual endeavours are based on a simultaneous engagement with Western political thought, Islamic philosophy, and the idea of Ancient …

Exploring College Experiences Of Muslim Students At Four-Year Institutions In Colorado: A Narrative Inquiry, Kamal Gamada Ararso
Exploring College Experiences Of Muslim Students At Four-Year Institutions In Colorado: A Narrative Inquiry, Kamal Gamada Ararso
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In the last two decades, Colorado's number of Muslim Americans (citizens and permanent residents) has substantially increased (Bowen, 2009a; Bowen, 2009b; Mohamed, 2021; Roberts, 2022). This increase is reflected in the growing number of Islamic community centers, emerging Islamic schools, mosques, grocery stores, Muslim cuisines, and the diversity of students in the post-secondary education system (Roberts, 2022). Although centralized data about Muslim college students are hard to find, their presence within the higher education system is well-known. Still, in Colorado, Muslims' religious, racial, cultural, and gendered experiences within the higher education system remained unexplored in the research. Therefore, this exploratory …

Topological Tropology Of V.S. Naipaul’S Islamic Travelogues And Daniel Pipes’ Islamic History: Ahistorical Historicism, Md. Habibullah
CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture
Nobel laureate V. S. Naipaul’s (1932-2018) first Islamic travelogue Among the Believers: An Islamic Journey (1981) contains his experience of a visit from August 1979 to February 1980 to the four non-Arab Muslim-majority countries – Iran, Pakistan, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Similarly, his last Islamic travelogue Beyond Belief: Islamic Excursions among the Converted Peoples (1998) has a description of another visit to the same countries for five-month in 1995. Graphic Standards In Graphic Heritage: Scope, Scale, And Unity Through Multiplicity In Islamic Design, Robert George Harland
IASDR Conference Series
The concept of graphic standards is well-known across several disciplines. In design, it is most substantively understood in architecture, but its American origins present a limited aesthetic scope that favours classical architectural norms that overlook non-western architectural traditions. This paper explores their relevance concerning urban heritage and the emerging concept of graphic heritage and explores how the concept may be used to understand the value of repetition and frequency in Islamic art, architecture, and design. The research follows an exploratory hypothesis that seeks to describe and redefine some related concepts that will benefit a cross-disciplinary appreciation of cultural heritage and …

From Patriarchal Stereotypes To Matriarchal Pleasures Of Hybridity: Representation Of A Muslim Family In Berlin, Rahime Özgün Kehya Dr
Journal of Religion & Film
Sinan Çetin’s blockbuster Berlin in Berlin (1993) is a Turkish-German co-production. In contrast to certain representational tendencies with German orientalism or Turkish occidentalism, it deconstructs the intersectional structures of migration, religion, and gender. The portrayal of religion in films about Turkish-German labour migration is a kind of cultural narcissism often projected into national cinema by denigrating the faith of the other and glorifying one’s own religion. However, perspectives at such intersections are critical and require sensitivity in filmmaking, as films can create prejudice or help build peaceful relationships around these sensitive issues. The paper employs discourse analysis in linking Derrida’s …

Roots To Reconciliation: Understanding Factors Influencing Violent Extremism And Rehabilitation As Imperatives, Sofia Liberti
Global Studies Senior Capstone
Islamic religion and culture are often misunderstood, misrepresented, and consequently most vilified in the world, despite comprising well over a fifth of the world population. This paper attempts to discern Islam's view on violence/non-violence, the factors that lead to religious extremism, and what countering violent extremist movements and rehabilitation look like. While it is important to recognize that this religion/faith/worldview is not understood in the same way or prioritized to the same degree by each and every Muslim, this paper hopes to become a resource for de-bunking the misguided beliefs about Islam in today's media linking ideas such as terrorism …
