Conversational agents are increasingly being used by the general population due to shortages in healthcare providers and specialists, and limited access to treatments. They are also used by people to deal with loneliness and lack of companionship. As these apps are increasingly replacing real humans, there is a need to explore their design features and limitations for better design of conversational apps. Using text mining and topic modeling, this study analyzed a total of 126,610 reviews about Replika, a popular and well-established conversational agent mobile app. Our results emphasized current practices for designing conversational apps while at the same time …

Prostate Cancer (PCa) is one of the most frequent cancers worldwide and the most common cancer in males. Testing for PCa remains problematic. Evidence is mounting that overdiagnosis and over-treatment can result in adverse side-effects yet have little impact in preventing death from PCa. Consequently, the importance of predictive tools that help physicians in the diagnosis of the condition cannot be understated. Though there exist several predictive models for the detection of clinically significant PCa, these models mainly depend on logistic regression. The objective of this research is to investigate the potential of various machine learning techniques to improve the …

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as machine learning (ML), natural language processing (NLP), and image recognition, are being incorporated into a wide variety of applications. These AI-enabled applications (AI apps) promise to reshape people's lives. However, despite the proliferation of AI-related research, very little research has focused on how AI apps' unique characteristics affect an individual's adoption behavior. This study examines factors influencing an individual's intention to use AI apps with a proposed research model based on the Task Technology Fit (TTF) as the underlying theoretical framework. The research model is empirically evaluated using the survey data and SEM method. …

Data Integration (DI) is a technical framework that facilitates the integration of different data sources into a unified system. Often, organizational data is spread across various files, databases, and personal computers, resulting in data silos and difficulties in accessing vital organizational knowledge. The solution rests in the development of Information Systems capable of handling diverse data from multiple heterogeneous sources. This study presents a systematic literature review on data integration approaches, specifically focusing on the aerospace industry. We conducted a literature search on IEEE Xplore database with keywords ‘data integration aerospace’ for articles published between January 2000 and December 2022 …

Mental health issues among American youth continue to increase. Technology integration and acceptance represent modern opportunities to provide more access to licensed professionals. School counselors are mental health experts in schools uniquely positioned to provide social and emotional support to students. However, not all students have access to a school counselor or another mental health professional. In 2018, Utah developed the SafeUT app to increase services provided by school counselors and licensed clinicians to students in the state. This free mobile app provides confidential, real-time crisis intervention through an anonymous live chat and confidential tip program. Although the number of …

A Comparison Of Virtual Vs. Traditional Cycling Exercise On Perceived Duration And Exercise Enjoyment, Kyle W. Reason
Dissertations
We compared perceived duration, ratings of enjoyment and RPE between virtual vs. standard cycling. Participants completed a VO2 peak test and four counterbalanced trials (two 20-min, two 40-min) one at each duration on the interactive Expresso bike (EXP) and a workload matched trial on a Velotron (VEL). Acute RPE were assessed every 5-min. Perceived duration (min) and exercise enjoyment were assessed 15-min post. No significant differences were found for perceived duration between trials (SDE 23.9 ± 8.4; SDV 27.1 ± 9.6; LDE 40.0 ± 12.1; LDV 38.9 ± 10.8). For long duration expresso (LDE) RPE-overall were significantly lower at 25, …

All Faculty and Staff Scholarship
Evidence shows that artificial intelligence (AI) has become an essential academic subject, representing about 2.2% of all scientific publications. One concern for doctoral programs is the future role of AI in doctoral writing due to the increase in AI-generated content, such as text and images. Apprehensions have been expressed that the use of AI may have a negative impact on a doctoral student’s ability to think critically and creatively. In contrast, others argue that using AI tools can provide various benefits resulting in rigorous research. This conceptual article first discusses the developing relationship between AI and dissertation writing skills. Second, …

Nudge Efficiency, Avishalom Tor
Nudge Efficiency, Avishalom Tor
Book Chapters
Only a small portion of the substantial literature on behavioral interventions ("nudges") that developed over the last fifteen to twenty years has considered nudges from an economic perspective. Moreover, despite the importance of the topic for a law and economics assessment of this increasingly common form of regulation, even fewer contributions have examined whether and when behavioral instruments are likely to make an efficient means for increasing social welfare. This chapter therefore offers some basic observations about nudge efficiency: Part I opens with a reminder that behavioral instruments should be implemented only when they are the most efficient means available …

On Launching Environmental Law Into Orbit In The Age Of Satellite Constellations, Michael B. Runnels
On Launching Environmental Law Into Orbit In The Age Of Satellite Constellations, Michael B. Runnels
Journal of Air Law and Commerce
In September 2022, the Federal Communications Commission adopted a new rule changing the deorbiting timeframe for satellites ending their missions in low Earth orbit from a twenty-five-year recommendation to a five-year legal requirement. The adoption of this rule, which seeks to cultivate a sustainable orbital environment for satellites, followed the United States’ July 2022 National Orbital Debris Implementation Plan, which tasked federal agencies with reviewing the effectiveness of their orbital debris-related rules. In the wake of the Supreme Court’s June 2022 West Virginia v. EPA decision, however, federal rulemaking in the area of orbital debris may not survive judicial scrutiny …

Deregulating Consumers From The Airline Industry—Dot’S Proposed Rule In Response To U.S. Airlines’ Refusal To Refund Unused Tickets During Covid-19, Alicia L. Hinton, Diana Hyunjin Malcolm
Journal of Air Law and Commerce
The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in significant delays and cancellation of airline tickets without proper refunds to consumers by U.S. airlines. In response to an unprecedented number of consumer complaints, in August 2022, the Department of Transportation (Department or DOT) proposed new rules regarding airline ticket refunds and consumer protections.Does this rule go far enough?
This article provides a summary of the events and policy changes leading up to the Airline Deregulation Act (ADA) of 1978 and challenges the scope of federal preemption over the field of airline regulation that has created a boon to air carriers while essentially eliminating …
