Nitrates In Nebraska, Michelle Zenk Jan 2023

Nitrates In Nebraska, Michelle Zenk

Department of Environmental Studies: Undergraduate Student Theses

For my senior thesis project, I decided to study nitrate pollution to better understand and analyze how college students in Nebraska viewed and understood the complex issue of nitrate pollution. From my study only half of college students surveyed viewed nitrate pollution as a problem. Only 15 percent of college students test their water for nitrates, and most college students were knowledgeable on how nitrate pollution occurs. Due to the negative impacts of nitrate pollution within human health, soil health, and ecosystem function further work needs to be completed to raise awareness and knowledge on the impacts of nitrate pollution.

Analyzing The Impact Of Zip Subfamily Ii Mutations On The Zinc And Iron Transport Of Zupt From Escherichia Coli, Bradley Vandecar

Wayne State University Theses

The disfunction or misregulation of the ZIP family of metal ion transporters has been linked to a plethora of diseases and cancers in humans. Zn2+ is the primary substrate for ZIPs and is transported through the M1 metal binding site, though this activity is stimulated through the binding of Fe2+ in the M2 metal binding site. The members of ZIP Subfamily II are predicted to have an inactive M2 site due to the lack of Fe2+ transport and from a previously generated homology model. This work utilizes homology modelling, whole cell metal ion uptake assays, and growth studies in minimal …

SARS-CoV-2 Papain-like protease is an essential viral protein for viral replication. In our lab, we hypothesize that successful inhibition of this protease will stop viral replication and allow for clearance of the infection by the host. The work described here aimed to design and execute an in silico drug discovery workflow for successfully selecting PLpro inhibitors from the Mcule purchasable compound database. This work reports such a workflow and nine potential compounds for in vitro testing. This work also describes structural activity relationship analysis of a proprietary set of PLpro inhibitors synthesized by medicinal chemistry collaborators and makes recommendations for …

Too Close To The Ego: Narcissists’ Affective Reaction To Advertising Depends On Its Relevance To Self-Image, Yang He Jan 2023

Too Close To The Ego: Narcissists’ Affective Reaction To Advertising Depends On Its Relevance To Self-Image, Yang He

Funded Scholarship

This research investigates the effect of narcissism on consumers’ affective reaction to advertising. Narcissists are burdened with the duality of the overinflated self-view and the vulnerability of the unrealistic ego. They tend to be paranoid of the mere introspection of self-image, because such introspection can expose the vulnerability they have been diligent to avoid. Therefore, ads that are closely relevant to the viewer’s self-image can lead to a negative affective response. Several experiments show support for this hypothesis and illustrate implications for advertising practice. Taking into consideration reports that narcissism is on the rise within the population, promotional ads that …
