Cooper Medical School of Rowan University Departmental Research
Glioblastoma (GBM) is an aggressive primary CNS malignancy and clinical outcomes have remained stagnant despite introduction of new treatments. Understanding the tumor microenvironment (TME) in which tumor associated macrophages (TAMs) interact with T cells has been of great interest. Although previous studies examining TAMs in GBM have shown that certain TAMs are associated with specific clinical and/or pathologic features, these studies used an outdated M1/M2 paradigm of macrophage polarization and failed to include the continuum of TAM states in GBM. Perhaps most significantly, the interactions of TAMs with T cells have yet to be fully explored. Our study uses single-cell …

Background
While patients with spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) occasionally present with concurrent ventricular arrhythmias (VA), the impact of VA on in-hospital outcomes in the United States (US) is not well-established. This study aims to analyze in-hospital outcomes of patients with SCAD and concurrent VA and to determine the factors associated with VA occurrence in this high-risk population in the US.Methods
Using the Nationwide Readmissions Database, our study included patients age 18 years or older who had SCAD between 2017 and 2020. We categorized the cohort into 2 groups depending on the presence of VA during hospitalization. In-hospital outcomes …Transgender And Gender Non-Conforming Leaders And Leadership: A Foundational And Integrative Review, Galen J. Talis
Transgender And Gender Non-Conforming Leaders And Leadership: A Foundational And Integrative Review, Galen J. Talis
Libraries
Gender and leadership research has traditionally employed a binary framework, overlooking the experiences of transgender and gender non-conforming (TGNC) leaders and forcing leaders of all genders and intersectional identities into a dichotomous frame. This paper reviewed interdisciplinary literature using a robust search strategy in three academic databases and Google Scholar, as well as across eight leadership studies journals. Sixteen sources involving 440 leaders’ experiences were found. The author conducted a thematic analysis to explore how TGNC leaders’ experiences challenge and advance leadership theories, deepen understanding of discrimination, and offer ways to support their emergence and success. TGNC leaders’ experiences bring …

A growing body of evidence suggests that news media which includes a sympathetic portrayal of a mother bereaved by substance use can increase public support for harm reduction initiatives. However, the extent to which such news media coverage occurs in Canada is unknown, and research has not documented how the news media in Canada covers such stories. We undertook a mixed-method secondary analyses of 5681 Canadian newspaper articles on harm reduction (2000–2016). Quantitative analyses described the volume and content of harm reduction reporting featuring a mother whose child’s death was related to substance use while qualitative thematic analysis provided in-depth …

To develop a model for assessing and grading students engaged in this type of learning experience, the assessment aims and practices of a community of experienced course-based research instructors were collected and analyzed. This approach defines four aims of course-based research assessment—(1) Assessing Laboratory Work and Scientific Thinking; (2) Evaluating Mastery of Concepts, Quantitative Thinking and Skills; (3) Appraising Forms of Scientific Communication; and (4) Metacognition of Learning—along with a set of practices …
Job Stress, Mentoring, Psychological Empowerment, And Job Satisfaction Among Nursing Faculty, Catherine Chung
Job Stress, Mentoring, Psychological Empowerment, And Job Satisfaction Among Nursing Faculty, Catherine Chung
Dissertations
The National League for Nursing (NLN) endorses mentoring throughout the nursing faculty career trajectory as the method to recruit nurses into academia and improve retention of nursing faculty within the academy (NLN, 2006). One way mentoring assists faculty is by easing socialization to the culture of the employing institution and decreasing faculty stress (Lewallen, Crane, Letvak, Jones, & Hu, 2003). Mentoring can also be a facilitating factor of an individual's psychological empowerment. Academia is an environment able to foster psychological empowerment, a state in which faculty may be self-directed, highly productive, confident, and find a meaningful connection to their work …

Seeking Connection By Forsaking Self: Associations Of Autonomy And Relatedness With Self-Silencing And Emotional Fusion, Amber A. Price
Seeking Connection By Forsaking Self: Associations Of Autonomy And Relatedness With Self-Silencing And Emotional Fusion, Amber A. Price
Theses and Dissertations
Humans innately feel a desire for connection, but in its pursuit, some may inadvertently thwart the very connection they seek. One way this may happen is through forsaking a sense of autonomy in favor of relatedness using behaviors such as self- silencing (stifling the self to preserve a relationship) and emotional fusion (relying on validation from others). To better understand how these four variables—autonomy, relatedness, self-silencing and emotional fusion—function together, I used latent profile analysis to identify classes among US adults in long-term relationships (n = 1065). Separate classes were identified for men and women. I then used the Bolck-Croon-Hagenaars …

Nutrient budgets help to identify the excess or insufficient use of fertilizers and other nutrient sources in agriculture. They allow for the calculation of indicators, such as the nutrient balance (surplus if positive or deficit if negative) and nutrient use efficiency, that help to monitor agricultural productivity and sustainability across the world. We present a global database of country-level budget estimates for nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) on cropland. The database, disseminated in FAOSTAT, is meant to provide a global reference, synthesizing and continuously updating the state of the art on this topic. The database covers 205 countries …

Outdoor Workshops: A Means Of Restoration Amidst Covid-19 Online Modes, Santa Stopniece
Journal of Management for Global Sustainability
Amidst the global pandemic of COVID-19, online learning and teaching were oftentimes treated as the new normal. Students and tutors were expected to accept it and perform as effectively as they did in face-to-face situations. However, the online mode sustained over extended periods of time often results in decreased motivation, a lesser ability to concentrate, and general fatigue. This paper explores how outdoor workshops involving local and international students were used for restoration amidst lengthy online COVID-19-related learning periods at Suzhou Polytechnic Institute of Agriculture (China) and their role as a regular practice for sustainability in education. The methods of …

A Clear, Succinct Research Question Portends The Rest Of The Story, Jessica J. F. Kram, Lisa Sullivan Vedder, Brenda Fay, Deborah Simpson
Journal of Patient-Centered Research and Reviews
The goal of any research manuscript is to convey the story of a systematic answer to an important question in the field. A clear, succinct research or study question is what provides the storyline that connects all the sections of a manuscript. One of the most common strategies to developing a meaningful research question is the FINER approach, which encompasses five standards to determine the quality of a question: feasible, interesting, novel, ethical, and relevant. Using the FINER approach can provide the guidepost for all design and reporting decisions. This editorial recommends creating a study protocol aimed at answering your …

The Effectiveness Of Physical Therapy Exercise Interventions For Concussions, Anna Altergott
Honors Capstones
This project was a systematic review exploring exercise interventions for individuals who sustain a concussion. While it has been suggested for many years that people with concussions should avoid physical and mental activity, there have been many findings and studies that indicated exercise training can reduce symptoms and improve function for those experiencing persistent post-concussion symptoms. Aerobic exercise represents a potentially useful and clinically pragmatic rehabilitation technique if done in a safe and controlled manner as guided by a trained clinician, such as, a physical therapist. There are specific exercise interventions that are discussed below to find which intervention is …

Unraveling The Impact Of Trap-Neuter-Release (Tnr) Programs On Feral Cat Populations, Emma Koch
Honors Theses
Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is a humane and effective method for managing outdoor cat populations. The process involves trapping feral or free-roaming cats, sterilizing them, and then returning them to their original location. While sterilization is crucial in curbing population growth, successful TNR programs require more than just the surgical aspect. Vetting is essential for addressing health concerns and ensuring the overall well-being of the cats. Moreover, colony care, including regular feeding and monitoring, is vital for their survival. Outdoor cats, often considered an invasive species, pose a threat to local wildlife and natural habitats. TNR provides a humane and long-lasting solution …
