Introduction. In a study spanning 2008 to 2012 at Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital (CMGH) Jakarta, 668 cases of thyroid cancer were identified among 18,216 cancer cases. Globally, the papillary subtype is prevalent, and prior research indicates a link between thyroid hormone changes and thyroid carcinoma risk. To improve surgical care, this study aims to find the association between thyroid hormone levels and histological subtypes in thyroid carcinoma patients.

Introduction. The mortality of venous thromboembolism increased among trauma patients. Both the D-dimer test and ultrasonography are selected to diagnose venous thromboembolism due to non-traumatic causes but are rarely utilized in emergency trauma settings.

Objectives. This literature review comprehensively explains the accuracy of the D-dimer test and ultrasonography for deep vein thrombosis (DVT) diagnosis. This study finding might broaden the diagnostic recommendation for traumatic patients with deep vein thrombosis.

Introduction. Gastrointestinal (GI) obstruction is a condition that often requires surgery and can lead to severe complications. The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) has been used as an inflammation indicator in various medical conditions, but research on the relationship between NLR and GI obstruction is still limited. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the role of NLR as a cost-effective and simple preoperative predictor of postoperative mortality and morbidity, mainly surgical site infection, in adult patients with GI obstruction.

Introduction. Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide, with a high mortality rate. This study investigates the predictive value of the neutrophil–lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) in predicting the survival rates of colorectal cancer patients in Indonesia.

Method. This retrospective cohort study enrolled the colorectal cancer stage I–IV patients treated at Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital (CMGH). Introduction. Chronic limb–threatening ischemia (CLTI) can cause rest pain in the lower extremities and the formation of ulcers or gangrene. Revascularization, which can be done using open surgery or endovascular procedures, is the first line of treatment in CLTI management. CLTI patients at CMGH usually came with advanced conditions and high re–amputation rates even after revascularization. The Commonwealth of Kentucky has taken its first steps in creating trauma-informed K-12 schools through passing the School Safety and Resiliency Act of 2019. School districts were tasked with developing trauma-informed education plans by July 2021. However, the Commonwealth’s mandate gave broad autonomy to school districts in shaping their trauma-informed education plans’ processes and content. Through a critical policy analysis design, this study examined the availability and quality of trauma-informed education plans from each school district in Kentucky and compared them to the trauma-informed framework developed by the National Child Traumatic Stress Network. The study aims to determine the impact of influencers promoting local food and beverages on individuals’ intention to taste local food. In this study, Instagram accounts were selected as the social media platform. The research data were obtained from Turkish Instagram users over the age of 18 by using an online survey and purposive sampling method, and usable data were obtained from 81 people. Using de Certeau's concepts of “tactics” and “strategies,” this study explores the everyday information seeking behavior of female sex workers (FSWs) in Bangladesh. This study also examined the effectiveness of informational programs on HIV/AIDS and STI in empowering FSWs to negotiate condom use during sex. A mixed method research design was employed in this study, which included face-to-face surveys with 116 female sex workers (FSWs) and four focus group discussions (FGDs) with 23 street based FSWs. Surgical epilepsy is a rapidly evolved field. As the understanding and concepts of epilepsy shift towards a network disorder, surgical outcomes may shed light on numerous components of these systems. This review documents the evolution of the understanding of epilepsy networks and examines the data generated by resective, ablative, neuromodulation, and invasive monitoring surgeries in epilepsy patients. As these network tools are better integrated into epilepsy practice, they may eventually inform surgical decisions and improve clinical outcomes.

Objective; Maternal exposure during pregnancy is a strong determinant of offspring health outcomes. Such exposure induces changes in the offspring epigenome resulting in gene expression and functional changes. In this study, we investigated the effect of maternal Western hypercaloric diet (HCD) programming during the perinatal period on neuronal plasticity and cardiometabolic health in adult offspring. Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP1RA) have been transformative for patients and clinicians in treating type-2 diabetes and obesity. Drugs of this class, the bioavailability of which is continuously improving, enable weight loss and control blood glucose with minimal unwanted side effects. Since adopting GLP1RA for treating metabolic diseases, animal and clinical studies have revealed their beneficial effects on several other pathologies, including cardiovascular diseases, neurodegeneration, kidney disease, and cancer. BACKGROUND: Despite the increasing utilization of sphincter and/or organ-preservation treatment strategies, many patients with low-lying rectal cancers require abdominoperineal resection (APR), leading to permanent ostomy. Here, we aimed to characterize overall, sexual-, and bladder-related patient-reported quality of life (QOL) for individuals with low rectal cancers. We additionally aimed to explore potential differences in patient-reported outcomes between patients with and without a permanent ostomy.

High blood pressure causes over 10 million preventable deaths annually globally. Populations in low- and middle-income countries suffer the most, experiencing increased uncontrolled blood pressure and cardiovascular disease (CVD) deaths. Despite improvements in high-income countries, disparities persist, notably in the United States, where Black individuals face up to 4× higher CVD mortality than White individuals. Social determinants of health encompass complex, multidimensional factors linked to an individual's birthplace, upbringing, activities, residence, workplaces, socioeconomic and environmental structures, and significantly affect health outcomes, including hypertension and CVD. AMONDYS 45 (casimersen) is an antisense oligonucleotide therapy used to treat Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), a rare genetic disorder characterized by a mutation in the DMD gene. Symptoms include progressive muscle weakness, respiratory and cardiac complications, and premature death. Casimersen targets a specific mutation in the DMD gene that results in the absence of dystrophin protein, a key structural component of muscle fibers. While there is currently no cure for DMD, exon-skipping therapy works by restoring the reading frame of the mutated gene, allowing the production of a partially functional dystrophin protein. Trichotillomania, also known as Hair-Pulling Disorder, is characterized by recurrent pulling out of one’s hair over brief episodes or sustained periods of time and results in hair loss. ACT-enhanced behavior therapy (A-EBT) has been shown to be an effective approach in the treatment of trichotillomania by promoting psychological flexibility around hair pulling urges and teaching stimulus control and habit reversal training. However, there is limited support of A-EBT for clients with an ethnic minority identity. INTRODUCTION: The residency application process is a critical time for medical students. The COVID-19 pandemic prompted changes to the residency recruitment procedures with the conversion of interviews to a virtual format. For medical school advisors guiding students on an all-virtual residency application process brought uncertainty to their advising practices. Thus, this study aimed to identify advising practices during the 2021 virtual application cycle.

METHODS: We administered an IRB-exempt national survey through the Clerkship Directors in Internal Medicine to 186 internal medicine core/co-/associate/assistant clerkship directors and sub-internship directors representing 140 Liaison Committee on Medical Education-accredited U.S./U.S.-territory-based medical schools in spring 2021. …
