Analysis Of Phlebotomy Training Implementation To Reduce Lab Errors In The Clinical Setting, Sandy King
Analysis Of Phlebotomy Training Implementation To Reduce Lab Errors In The Clinical Setting, Sandy King
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
The primary responsibility of a laboratory technician is to obtain patient blood samples through venipuncture as well as collect, transport, and store other clinical specimens. Poor blood collection can lead to erroneous and misleading results for the provider in addition to the annoyance of repeat testing for the patient. The lack of formal phlebotomy training provided to nurses could be contributing to laboratory rejections. For patients receiving lab services, how effective is an implementation of formal phlebotomy training for nurses compared to non-formal phlebotomy-trained nurses, in reducing failed lab results? The purpose and aim of this quality improvement project are …

Fostering Critical Thinking Through Simulation: An Integrative Review, Sarah Knapp, Raymonta Green
Fostering Critical Thinking Through Simulation: An Integrative Review, Sarah Knapp, Raymonta Green
Master of Science in Nursing Final Projects
Over the past decade simulation has become a staple of nursing education with increasing use during the COVID-19 pandemic. Both manikin-based and virtual simulation are used to increase the preparedness of nursing students for their roles at the bedside. With the increasing experience-complexity gap, it is important that students enter the workforce prepared to effectively care for patients. Simulation allows students to work with a patient scenario without the possibility of injury; in simulation, mistakes are opportunities instead of harm. This integrative review searched the literature questioning if in pre-licensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing students, do virtual simulation and …

Medication Overrides In Emergency Departments Defy Safety Culture, Jennifer Holt
Medication Overrides In Emergency Departments Defy Safety Culture, Jennifer Holt
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Medication errors are a growing problem in healthcare systems. Emergency Departments (ED) are especially susceptible to this. Automated dispensing cabinets (ADC) help promote patient safety, but ED nurses commonly override the safety steps built into that workflow. This quality improvement project aims to reduce the number of medication overrides in three rural emergency departments. Data was compiled for the six months before the education and then for the four-week time frame post-education. Education was developed concerning the effects of medication override and errors were presented to all ED nursing staff at the three facilities. Implementation occurred over four weeks and …

Planty: The Fitness App With A Plant, Zixin Alice Ouyang
Theses
It is common knowledge that physical exercise has multiple physical and mental benefits, yet many often find it challenging to maintain a consistent exercise habit. How can we design a more motivating exercise experience so more people would exercise? The proposed solution is Planty, an innovative fitness app. Planty aims to change the user’s exercise habits by providing an alternative motivation behind physical exercise by locking a live plant inside a terrarium. Users can only care for the plant through the Planty app through exercise. By linking users’ behavior to the livelihood of a live plant, Planty forces its users …

The Qualitative Report
This study explored the multiple intelligence representation in the micro-credentials designed by Malaysian educators and the reasons for integrating multiple intelligences in their course materials. The study was guided by the eight indicators of multiple intelligences suggested by Howard Gardner. We conducted in-depth qualitative interviews with 20 educators from a university in the northern region of Malaysia. The thematic analysis guided by Braun and Clarke shows a number of reasons why educators included the indicators in designing their content for micro-credential. Educators generally demonstrated that they used all the multiple intelligences indicators in designing the micro-credentials. The findings are encouraging …

Weapon Of Choice: A Neoliberal Institutional Perspective On Italy’S Decision To Procure A Sixth Generation Fighter Aircraft, Lorenzo Cladi
Weapon Of Choice: A Neoliberal Institutional Perspective On Italy’S Decision To Procure A Sixth Generation Fighter Aircraft, Lorenzo Cladi
School of Law, Humanities and Social Sciences
In 2018, Italy decided to join the British-led Team Tempest to develop a sixth generation fighter aircraft. This decision came at the expense of a rival project, the Future Combat Air System (FCAS), led by France and Germany. The Italian decision to join Tempest raises a theoretical question overlooked by the existing literature: when states have different cooperative procurement options, what makes them choose one rather than another? The aim of the article is to provide an analytically informed account of the process that led Italy to join Tempest. In doing so, we adopt a neo-institutionalist perspective, as it allows …

Interest In And Barriers To Online Esol Instruction For Adults During And Beyond Covid-19: Exploring Relationships With Sociodemographics And English Proficiency, Jessica G. Cox, Lauren Y. Chen, Harriet Okatch
College of Population Health Faculty Papers
Digital divides mean that marginalized groups such as adults who speak English as a second or other language (ESOL) are less likely to have access to online instruction. Higher levels of English proficiency are associated with better health and employment; therefore, access to ESOL classes is essential. We investigated how sociodemographics and English proficiency relate to adult learners' preferences for, and barriers to, online instruction of ESOL during and beyond the COVID-19 pandemic. Sixty-one adults completed a survey on their pandemic experiences, demographics, and ESOL classes. Analyses showed nonsignificant relationships between interest in online instruction and internet access, education, income, …

Infants necessitate vaccinations to prevent life-threatening infections. Our understanding of the infant immune responses to routine vaccines remains limited. We analyzed two cohorts of 2-month-old infants before vaccination, one week, and one-month post-vaccination. We report remarkable hetero- geneity but limited antibody responses to the different antigens. Whole-blood transcriptome analysis in an initial cohort showed marked overexpression of interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs) and to a lesser extent of inflammation- genes at day 7, which normalized one month post-vaccination. Single-cell RNA sequencing in peripheral blood mononuclear cells from a second cohort identified at baseline a predominantly naive immune landscape including ISGhi cells. On …
