Journal of Management for Global Sustainability

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (2030 ASD) was designed to address global problems like poverty, conservation of the planet, and peace and prosperity. Successfully pursuing it, however, will be highly dependent on how local and regional governments implement the agenda—the rapid realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) would involve various actors ranging from civil society organizations to the academe, the corporate sector, and many private individuals. This paper presents a case study on stakeholder engagement undertaken at the local level to achieve the SDGs, specifically in the Philippine province of Bataan. Humankind – Bias In Our Head, Luying Li

Theses

"HumanKind" is a dynamic exploration at the intersection of visual communication design and societal awareness, seeking to unravel and mitigate the far-reaching impacts of bias. Through the fusion of "Human" and "Kind," the project embodies a dual narrative, emphasizing individual humanity and the diverse fabric of the human collective. The core inquiry revolves around encouraging individuals to recognize and challenge biases before decision-making, fostering unbiased choices. Historical narratives of racial conflicts serve as the foundation, propelling the project's mission to explore, challenge, and diminish biases entrenched in our collective consciousness. Going beyond traditional exhibitions, "HumanKind" evolves into a dynamic dialogue …

Towards The Aim Of The Eu Circular Economy In A Multi-Stakeholder Process: From Policy To Industry And Back, Erja Kettunen

Journal of Management for Global Sustainability

This paper explores the negotiations and actions among various actors, or stakeholders, in formulating the aim of the EU circular economy. Taking the perspective of a member state and its industries, it focuses on how stakeholders—EU bodies, industry associations, companies, and the state—communicate and collaborate while having divergent interests. The research approach combines perspectives from business studies and international political economy to explore stakeholder engagement and bargaining in formulating circular economy aims in a multi-stakeholder network. In doing so, the study investigates the stakeholders’ communication network as an interaction between the policy and industry levels that cooperate to advance sustainable …

Assessing Generalization Of Behavioral Interventions In Teaching Independent Play Skills To Individuals With Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Systematic Review, David Anthony Defranco

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

A myriad of evidence-based practices has been effective in teaching independent play skills to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). These interventions include video modeling, activity schedules, task correspondence training, task organization, individual work systems, and matrix training. This systematic review is aimed at examining the various behavioral interventions used to teach independent play skills to children and adolescents with ASD as the independent play literature will be evaluated to see if generalization was programmed for and assessed within the study. As one of the main dimensions of behavior analysis, generalization of skills, specifically independent play skills, is important to …

The Structure Of Secondary Copyright Liability, Felix T. Wu Dec 2023

The Structure Of Secondary Copyright Liability, Felix T. Wu

Articles

Secondary copyright liability and secondary patent liability largely parallel each other. And yet, secondary copyright cases are often quite different from secondary patent cases. Whereas most secondary patent infringers act in a way that targets a particular patent or group of related patents, secondary copyright infringement mostly arises in the context of technologies or services that work across all copyrighted works. Secondary copyright liability raises issues of platform liability in ways that secondary patent liability usually does not.

The current structure and framing of secondary copyright liability inadequately account for this distinction. The result is that secondary copyright liability tends …

Us State Vaccine Mandates Did Not Influence Covid-19 Vaccination Rates But Reduced Uptake Of Covid-19 Boosters And Flu Vaccines Compared To Bans On Vaccine Restrictions, Stephen A. Rains, Adam S. Richards Dec 2023

Us State Vaccine Mandates Did Not Influence Covid-19 Vaccination Rates But Reduced Uptake Of Covid-19 Boosters And Flu Vaccines Compared To Bans On Vaccine Restrictions, Stephen A. Rains, Adam S. Richards

Open Access Fund Publications

During the COVID-19 pandemic, some US states mandated vaccination for certain citizens. We used state-level data from the CDC to test whether vaccine mandates predicted changes in COVID-19 vaccine uptake, as well as related voluntary behaviors involving COVID-19 boosters and seasonal influenza vaccines. Results showed that COVID-19 vaccine adoption did not significantly change in the weeks before and after states implemented vaccine mandates, suggesting that mandates did not directly impact COVID-19 vaccination. Compared to states that banned vaccine restrictions, however, states with mandates had lower levels of COVID-19 booster adoption as well as adult and child flu vaccination, especially when …

Enlightenment Ideals And Belief In Progress In The Run-Up To The Industrial Revolution: A Textual Analysis, Ali Almelhem, Murat Iyigun, Austin Kennedy, Jared Rubin Dec 2023

Enlightenment Ideals And Belief In Progress In The Run-Up To The Industrial Revolution: A Textual Analysis, Ali Almelhem, Murat Iyigun, Austin Kennedy, Jared Rubin

ESI Working Papers

We trace the evolution of the language of science, religion, and political economy in the centuries leading to the British Industrial Revolution. Using textual analysis of 264,443 works printed in England between 1500 and 1900, we test whether British culture manifested a belief in progress associated with science and industry. Our analysis yields three main findings. First, there was a separation in the languages of science and religion beginning in the mid-18th century. Second, volumes using language at the nexus of science and political economy became more progress-oriented during the Enlightenment. Third, volumes using industrial language—especially those at the science-political …

Establishing A Novel Lipid-Polyamine Metabolic Connection To Virus Replication, Yazmin Edith Cruz Pulido Dec 2023

Establishing A Novel Lipid-Polyamine Metabolic Connection To Virus Replication, Yazmin Edith Cruz Pulido

Dissertations

Polyamines are small positively charged alkylamines found in all living cells. These ubiquitous molecules have been found to play a variety of roles ranging from stabilizing nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) to cellular proliferation. Studies have also identified roles for polyamines in viral packaging and viral enzyme function. However, the role of polyamines on cellular components and their effect on viral replication is less known. In our efforts to identify the lipid-polyamine metabolic connection to virus replication we utilized a human hepatocyte cell line in which polyamines were depleted via pharmacological or genetic approaches and studied the effects on lipid …

The Effect Of Reading Habits On Academic Success, Taylor Hicks Dec 2023

The Effect Of Reading Habits On Academic Success, Taylor Hicks

Masters Projects

The goal of most students is to achieve academic success. In order to be successful, students must form healthy reading habits because there is a positive correlation between academic success and reading habits. The more students read, the greater their chances of performing well academically. By participating in frequent reading, students will, not only perform well in school, they will also expand their vocabulary, improve their writing skills, and sharpen their critical thinking skills. We are in the midst of a literacy crisis, though. Students are choosing other avenues for entertainment instead of reading. This could potentially have detrimental consequences. …

An Analysis Of The Efficacy Of Disciplinary Methods, William Hewitt Dec 2023

An Analysis Of The Efficacy Of Disciplinary Methods, William Hewitt

Masters Projects

The practice of punitive discipline is the most common response to misbehavior in American school systems, despite having no evidence to support its continued use. However, there is research that demonstrates its active harm to students in multiple capacities. Punitive discipline has been found to only exacerbate students’ behavior issues, as well as negatively impact their academic performance. Additionally, research has pointed out that punitive discipline impacts students of minority demographics at a significantly higher rate than students belonging to majority demographics. More research in the way of alternative restorative policies, such as Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), is …
