Concerns About The High Content Of Acrylamides In Food: A Comprehensive Review, Violeta Lajqi, Pajtim Bytyçi, Mergim Mestani, Blend Broqi
UBT International Conference
Acrylamide's presence in food has recently drawn considerable interest on a global scale. One of the antecedents of acrylamide is asparagine, an amino acid that is frequently present in both plant and animal proteins. Acrylamide is listed as a potential cause of cancer, abnormal birth outcomes, and nerve damage in people. It appears naturally in foods that have been heated to high degrees as a synthetic chemical. Acrylamide is generally associated to the Millard reaction, which is prevalent in foods that mostly contain asparagine and starch, and forms during high-temperature cooking such as frying, roasting, and baking. According to the …

The practice of displaying data in an understandable, useful, and accessible way is known as information design. The current term for a branch of graphic design focused on information delivery is information design. Data visualization, communication design, and information architecture are all closely related to information design. Technical communicators and graphic artists, for example, who are particularly engaged in diagramming and presenting quantitative data, use the phrase "information graphics". Information design, as used in technical communication, is the act of creating an information structure with a particular audience in mind. This means choosing material and organizing it into several guides …

Asymmetry Of Has Clothing As A Social Category, Serving The Fashion Industry, Nexhat Cocaj
UBT International Conference
The asymmetric elements of Has clothing are ancient elements of this attire, which have withstood all changes and transformations made over time. Asymmetry, primarily used in women's clothing, has conveyed protection against evil eye, indicated the desire for the number of children, and the relationship within the couple. The asymmetry in the women's clothing of Has can otherwise be said to be the alphabet or hieroglyphs of clothing, through which desires for the family's economic status and desired professions are also shown. The hieroglyphs of clothing asymmetry are expressed through colors, floral and zoomorphic figures, which can only be interpreted …

This paper will elaborate the language spoken on National Televisions in North Macedonia, comparing it with Televisions of the Republic of Kosovo as the two multi-ethnic states that emerged from the Balkans. Furthermore, making a comparison with Televisions in Belgium, more precisely in Brussels, one of the cities with many ethnic colors, as well as a state of the European family- an aim of many Balkan states. Active speech, as a key activity of sociological, communicative and linguistic identity to people, gives anthropological characteristics and values. Language with its characteristics varies constantly, it is created, developed, depending on the changes …
Agriculture Development Strategy In The Republic Of North Macedonia: Between Subsidies, Eu Support And Pressure From Liberalization, Ruzhdi Matoshi
Agriculture Development Strategy In The Republic Of North Macedonia: Between Subsidies, Eu Support And Pressure From Liberalization, Ruzhdi Matoshi
UBT International Conference
Agriculture development differs a lot from the rest of economic sectors. While in a market economy the fate of businesses in each sector is decided by competition leading to the entries, survival and growth of the fittest, in agriculture as a whole there are some exceptions as a result of support from the government with subsidies. The main reasoning behind this direct support with the state funds is made on the grounds that food is necessity and there is no alternative to it. Even in global scale, efforts to support agricultural development in various forms. However, contradictions arise between the …

Wastewater is a discarded human by-product, but its analysis may help us understand the health of populations. Epidemiologists first analyzed wastewater to track outbreaks of poliovirus decades ago, but so-called wastewater-based epidemiology was reinvigorated to monitor SARS-CoV-2 levels while bypassing the difficulties and pit falls of individual testing. Current approaches overlook the activity of most human viruses and preclude a deeper understanding of human virome community dynamics. Here, we conduct a comprehensive sequencing-based analysis of 363 longitudinal wastewater samples from ten distinct sites in two major cities. Critical to detection is the use of a viral probe capture set targeting …

Lead Acetate Deteriorates The Improvement Effect Of L-Arginine And Tetrahydrobiopterin On Endothelin-1 Receptors Activity In Rat Aorta, Zhikal Omar Khudhur, Ismail Mustafa Maulood
Baghdad Science Journal
Endothelin-1 (ET-1) is a potent vasoconstrictor hormone that has been identified as an important factor responsible for the development of cardiovascular dysfunctions. ET-1 exerts its vasoconstrictor activity through two pharmacologically distinct receptors, ETA and ETB that are found in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) and the vasodilator activity through an ETB receptor located on endothelial cells. This study aimed to show the impact of 1µM L-arginine (LA), 100µM tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4), and their combined effect on ET-1 activity in both lead-treated and lead-untreated rat aortic rings. This means, investigating how endothelial dysfunction reverses the role of nitric oxide precursor and cofactor. …

Synthesis And Characterization Of Calcium Oxide Impregnated On Silica From Duck Egg Shells And Rice Husks As Heterogeneous Catalysts For Biodiesel Synthesis, Haryono Haryono, Safri Ishmayana, Isy Fauziyah
Baghdad Science Journal
Biodiesel can be prepared from various types of vegetable oils or animal fats with the aid of a catalyst. Calcium oxide (CaO) is one of the prospective heterogeneous catalysts for biodiesel synthesis. Modification of CaO by impregnation on silica (SiO2) can improve the performance of CaO as catalyst. Egg shells and rice husks as biomass waste can be used as raw materials for the preparation of the silica modified CaO catalyst. The present study was directed to synthesize and characterize CaO impregnated SiO2 catalyst from biomass waste and apply it as catalyst in biodiesel synthesis. The catalyst was synthesized by …
Traces Of An Imperial Japanese Imaginary: Positioning The Japanese & Okinawan Settlements Of Southern Alberta, Canada, 1910s-1930s, D Aoki
School of Law, Humanities and Social Sciences
This article develops a case study of two settlements of Japanese colonists—one ethnically Japanese, and one Okinawan—in the southern region of the Canadian province of Alberta between the 1910s and 1930s. It explores these communities’ aims and institutional structures to propose that these shaped membership in the trans-Pacific imperial Japanese imaginary, one that—in the navigation of dual Japanese and British Dominion imperial loyalties—sought to promote Japanese racial progress and cultivate the Japanese identity of future generations. It adds to scholarship on imperial Japan’s projection into North America through its diaspora. Highlighting southern Alberta’s Japanese communities, a distinctive opportunity is opened …

Bidirectional signal transduction between tumor epithelial cells and tumor microenvironment (TME) is important for tumor development. Here we show that Lin28b/let-7 pathway is indispensable for modulating the expression of Wnt5a in tumor epithelium, which could be secreted and then up-regulates Lin28b in cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs). Moreover, we demonstrate that Lin28b in CAFs promoted growth of PDAC by inducing cytokine PCSK9's production. Using an orthotopic mouse model of PDAC, we find that depletion of Lin28b in CAFs reduced tumor weight, highlighting the importance of Lin28b in PDAC stroma. Thus, our study shows that the Lin28b-Wnt5a axis plays a critical role in …

Glucose metabolism is critical for the African trypanosome, Trypanosoma brucei, serving as the lone source of ATP production for the bloodstream form (BSF) parasite in the glucose-rich environment of the host blood. Recently, phosphonate inhibitors of human enolase (ENO), the enzyme responsible for the interconversion of 2-phosphoglycerate (2-PG) to phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP) in glycolysis or PEP to 2-PG in gluconeogenesis, have been developed for the treatment of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). Here, we have tested these agents against T. brucei ENO (TbENO) and found the compounds to be potent enzyme inhibitors and trypanocides. For example, (1-hydroxy-2-oxopyrrolidin-3-yl) phosphonic acid (deoxy-SF2312) …

Amen To The Break - Spotify Playlist Vinyl Cover Project, Jonathan Hanham
Illustration Student Work
In this assignment, I decided to create a Spotify playlist with songs in the Liquid DnB/Ambient Jungle genres, and using the "depressive breakcore" visual aesthetic that is popular online. The name "Amen to the Break" refers to the "Amen Break" which is a popular drum beat sample used in many songs in the DnB and Jungle music genres. The illustration is meant to portray the chaotic yet brain-numbing effect that the harsh and fast yet soothing music has on the listener which can put them in a trance-like state.
Vulnerability In Times Of War: The Necessity Of The Moral Third, Hille Haker
Vulnerability In Times Of War: The Necessity Of The Moral Third, Hille Haker
Theology: Faculty Publications and Other Works
Vulnerability as a critique of the one-sidedness of the principle of autonomy is at risk of overemphasizing the positive dimension of vulnerability. Moreover, in the discourse on vulnerability, the threat of dehumanization (or moral vulnerability) has not been scrutinized enough ethically. Therefore, the ethics of vulnerability is insufficient when faced with the force of war that requires the conceptualization of vulnerability for political-ethics. The Russian war in Ukraine demonstrates this weakness in a striking way: the called-for openness to the other as well as an active form of nonviolence, as promoted by Judith Butler, may not be an option in …

To What Extent Do Physiological Tolerances Determine Elevational Range Limits Of Mammals?, Jay F. Storz, Graham R. Scott
School of Biological Sciences: Faculty Publications
A key question in biology concerns the extent to which distributional range limits of species are determined by intrinsic limits of physiological tolerance. Here, we use common-garden data for wild rodents to assess whether species with higher elevational range limits typically have higher thermogenic capacities in comparison to closely related lowland species. Among South American leaf-eared mice (genus Phyllotis), mean thermogenic performance is higher in species with higher elevational range limits, but there is little among-species variation in the magnitude of plasticity in this trait. In the North American rodent genus Peromyscus, highland deer mice (Peromyscus maniculatus …

Supply Chain Simulation Of Manufacturing Shirts Using System Dynamics For Sustainability, Gurinder Kaur, Ron Kander
Supply Chain Simulation Of Manufacturing Shirts Using System Dynamics For Sustainability, Gurinder Kaur, Ron Kander
School of Design and Engineering Papers
In supply chain management (SCM), goods and services flow from the raw materials stage to the end user with complexities and uncertainty at each stage. Computer modeling and simulation is a particularly useful method to examine supply chain operational issues because it can solve operational complexities that are challenging and time consuming to analyze. Manufacturing companies fear losing valuable time and assets during the manufacturing process; the inaccurate estimation of raw materials, human capital, or physical infrastructure not only leads to monetary loss for the manufacturing unit, but also has a detrimental effect on the environment. The purpose of this …
