An Overview Of Meat Composition, Postmortem Changes, And Sources Of Microbial Contamination In Developing Countries Abattoirs, Hend Ali Elshebrawy, Nahed Gomaa Kasem, Khalid Ibrahim Sallam
Mansoura Veterinary Medical Journal
Meat is an essential component of a healthy and well-balanced diet and has played a crucial role in human evolution over the years because it is an excellent source of highly digested protein, vitamin B12, vitamin B6, niacin, iron, copper, zinc, and selenium. Raw meat is considered an unavoidable source of microbial contamination due to its enriched nutrient composition, high pH (5.5 to 6.5), and water activity (0.98 to 0.99); consequently, the meat is regarded as a perfect medium for bacterial growth. Meat deterioration begins immediately after slaughter because of faulty practices during the processing stages such as skinning, evisceration, …

Mansoura Engineering Journal
The research focuses on the architectural documentation of religious buildings with architectural value and the role of this process in reviving heritage values. Every architectural detail had told us a story which is collected as the identity of the city. The fragility of these buildings and their artifacts, natural disasters, climate change, visitors' impact and lack of information usually leads to the inaccessibility of these buildings. But, due to the historical and touristic value of the religious buildings, the documentation process become necessary to benefit both visitors and researchers by availability and ease of access to information.
The traditional documentation …

The urban peoples of the Swahili coast traded across eastern Africa and the Indian Ocean and were among the first practitioners of Islam among sub-Saharan people1,2. The extent to which these early interactions between Africans and non-Africans were accompanied by genetic exchange remains unknown. Here we report ancient DNA data for 80 individuals from 6 medieval and early modern (ad 1250–1800) coastal towns and an inland town after ad 1650. More than half of the DNA of many of the individuals from coastal towns originates from primarily female ancestors from Africa, with a large proportion—and occasionally more than half—of the …

Graduate Student Theses, Dissertations, & Professional Papers
This thesis examines the relationship between blood and oil, that is, the multitude of ways in which the petromodernity industries harvests and threatens vitality. The introduction of this thesis is concerned tracking how petromodernity is a byproduct, offspring, or extension of colonialism. In this way, petromodernity can be thought about as “petro-colonialism.” Ursula K. LeGuin’s “Carrier Bag Theory of Fiction” informs the argument that the way thay petro-colonialism came to be and also maintains itself is by utilizing the “killer story.” This thesis also employs autorheoretical techniques informed by Lauren Fournier to show how petro-colonialism or “oiliness” sticks to its …

Cystic fibrosis is a condition which thickens the mucus throughout the body of the afflicted patient. Bob Flanagan, in his book The Pain Journal, ventures to record that sort of physical experience, as it pertains to the daily practices of his art, leading up to his death. Flanagan expounds on given relationships between his sadomasochistic performance art and the pain of his body in his poem “Why.” Richard Siken, too, in his book Crush, explores the embodied violence of gay lust, love, and obsession. WET SPECIMEN finds itself amongst these traditions, as it ventures to explore the animality …

With a backdrop of the body and its inner forms, Theory of Care is a collection of poems and lyric excerpts that explores themes of queer sexuality, physical and mental health, etymology, desire, and physicality. It coheres moments of internal reckoning with an exploration of how trauma lives in the body, particularly the queer femme body. By accessing various landscapes including the medical sphere, family dynamics, and the social environments of the South, the collection grapples with different vernaculars to question how the language used to discuss (or dismiss) trauma dramatically alters the perception of those experiences.

The ongoing spread of antimicrobial resistance has complicated the treatment of bacterial hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP) and ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP). Gram-negative pathogens, especially those with multidrug-resistant profiles, including Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Enterobacter spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Acinetobacter spp., are an important culprit in this type of infections. Understanding the determinants of resistance in pathogens causing pneumonia is ultimately stressing, especially in the shadows of the COVID-19 pandemic, when bacterial lung infections are considered a top priority that has become urgent to revise. Globally, the increasing prevalence of these pathogens in respiratory samples represents a significant infection challenge, with major limitations …

Introduction: Agricultural productivity in the arid hot desert climate of UAE is limited by the unavailability of water, high temperature, and salt stresses. Growing enough food under abiotic stresses and decreasing reliance on imports in an era of global warming are a challenge. Biochar with high water and nutrient retention capacity and acid neutralization activity is an attractive soil conditioner. This study investigates the microbial community in the arid soil of Dubai under shade house conditions irrigated with saline water and the shift in the microbial community, following 1 year of amendment with indigenously prepared biochar from date palm waste. …

Topographical Distribution And Morphology Of Sympathetic Postganglionic Innervation And Chronic Intermittent Hypoxia (Cih) Induced Remodeling Of The Whole Heart At Single Cell/Axon/Varicosity Scale, Ariege Bizanti
Electronic Theses and Dissertations, 2020-2023
The sympathetic nervous system is crucial for controlling multiple cardiac functions and its overactivity is associated with many cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH) is a current model for sleep apnea, which constitutes a major risk factor for CVD through sympathetic overactivity. However, a comprehensive neuroanatomical map of the sympathetic innervation of the heart is unavailable which impedes our understanding of the remodeling of this map in pathological conditions. First, we used a combination of state-of-the-art techniques, including flat-mount tissue processing, immunohistochemistry for tyrosine hydroxylase (TH, a sympathetic marker), confocal microscopy and Neurolucida 360 software to trace, digitize, and …
