Congruences For Consecutive Coefficients Of Gaussian Polynomials With Crank Statistics, Dennis Eichhorn, Lydia Engle, Brandt Kronholm
School of Mathematical & Statistical Sciences Faculty Publications
In this paper, we establish infinite families of congruences in consecutive arithmetic progressions modulo any odd prime ℓ for the function p ( n , m , N ) , which enumerates the partitions of n into at most m parts with no part larger than N . We also treat the function p ( n , m , ( a , b ] ) , which bounds the largest part above and below, and obtain similar infinite families of congruences.
For m ≤ 4 and ℓ = 3 , simple combinatorial statistics called "cranks" witness these congruences. We prove …

Folate, vitamin D and iodine are key micronutrients in pregnancy, with deficiency associated with poor maternal and infant outcomes. For folate and vitamin D especially, deficiency is more common amongst women with obesity and recommended intakes and guidance on supplementation varies worldwide. The present study aims to investigate dietary and supplementary intakes of these micronutrients amongst a population of pregnant women with obesity in the United Kingdom, alongside key maternal demographic characteristics. Expectant women (n = 75) with a body mass index ≥ 30 kg/m2 at first antenatal appointment were recruited at 12 weeks gestation. Participants were asked about their …

Patient Responses To Copd Symptoms: The Relationship Of Dyspnea And Fatigue To Activities Of Daily Living, Inhaler Use, And Self-Care Capability, Mary G. Cantley
Dissertations
Chronic obstructive pulmonary (COPD) disease is the fourth leading cause of death in the US. COPD care is concentrated in the outpatient setting and requires the complex management of activities of daily living (ADL's), inhaled medications, and self-care capability. Previous studies have not determined how daily dyspnea and fatigue affect care or alter activities when symptoms worsen.
The goal of this study was to discover the influence of dyspnea and fatigue on ADL's, inhaler use, and self-care capability of COPD outpatients.

UNLABELLED: Clonal hematopoiesis resulting from the enhanced fitness of mutant hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) associates with both favorable and unfavorable health outcomes related to the types of mature mutant blood cells produced, but how this lineage output is regulated is unclear. Using a mouse model of a clonal hematopoiesis-associated mutation, DNMT3AR882/+ (Dnmt3aR878H/+), we found that aging-induced TNFα signaling promoted the selective advantage of mutant HSCs and stimulated the production of mutant B lymphoid cells. The genetic loss of the TNFα receptor TNFR1 ablated the selective advantage of mutant HSCs without altering their lineage output, whereas the loss of TNFR2 resulted …

Hyperkalemia is one of the more common acute life-threatening metabolic emergencies. The aim of our study is to determine the correlation and accuracy of abnormal ECG parameters as a function of serum potassium concentration in the end-stage renal disease (ESRD) population. We performed a retrospective chart review of emergency department patients presenting with ESRD and receiving emergent hemodialysis treatment. A total of 96 patients, each with five independent ED visits, provided 480 sets of ECGs and electrolytes. Of these, four ECGs were excluded for inability to interpret, leaving a total of 476 patient encounters that met all inclusion criteria. Linear …

Reducing The Negative Effects Of Uncontrollable Factors When Designing New Courses, Nusser Raajpoot, Ran Liu
Atlantic Marketing Journal
This paper seeks to introduce a novel course design method in academic literature. It uses advanced experimental designs to capture student preferences. It also makes a distinction between controllable and uncontrollable design factors and seeks to minimize the negative impact of uncontrollable design factors, ensuring a successful course introduction. We propose and test a design method that combines Taguchi experimental designs with discrete choice estimation where choice probabilities are used as input data for Taguchi's inner and outer arrays. Design efficiency is measured by calculating signal to noise (S/N) ratio, which accounts for both mean and variance of choice probabilities. …

Political Reality: Attack Ads Are Here To Stay, Rebecca Dingus, Chanho Song, Richard H. Kolbe, Michael Y. Hu
Atlantic Marketing Journal
The primary research questions of this study center on two largely overlooked areas in negative political advertising: (1) Would the sponsor of the attack ad message be better off with a positive message? (2) When one is targeted by an attack ad, how should the attacked candidate respond? M-Turk subjects (n = 1,380) were used to conduct a multi-stage experimental design to capture the dynamic aspects of how subjects react to the use of attack ads in a hypothetical political campaign. In general, subjects did not respond favorably to attack ads, as these negative political messages caused damage to the …

Employee churn is a situation where people leave the organization voluntarily or involuntarily. This has become a serious problem in recent times. We have also seen that attrition rates in several industries are going high. So, it is very much required to understand and analyze the reason behind attrition and why this is happening. We must conduct an analysis to know what the factors affecting employee churn are. It will create a huge impact on the organization if the attrition rate goes high. In order to resolve this issue, we are trying to take up this issue and find the …

American residents in the (Nigerian, Liberian, Indian, Ghanaian, etc.) Diaspora have strong ties back home and as such support loved ones, back home, on a regular basis, by sending cash remittances through Western Union, MoneyGram, etc. Remittances are expensive. Remitters have no control over how funds are spent once received. Remitters cannot send small amounts because the fees cannot be justified. We built a marketplace platform that allows the Diaspora to remit goods and services, instead of sending money to relatives back home in. The objectives are to remove or greatly reduce the cost of remittances, give more control to …

Neural networks have become increasingly powerful and commonplace tools for guiding decision-making. However, due to the black-box nature of many of these networks, it is often difficult to understand exactly what guides them to a certain prediction, making them dangerous to use for sensitive decision making, and making it difficult to ensure confidence in their output. For instance, a network which classifies images of dogs and cats may turn out to be flawed with little consequence, but a neural network that diagnoses the presence of diseases should be assured to make sound predictions. By understanding why a network makes the …

Red Pepper IT is an application developed for Georgia Tech Research Institute. The conception of this project arose from the lack of IT management tools that can address all the needs of an IT department. Furthermore, with the currently available tools, they are either poorly designed or have a high licensing cost. This project seeks to solve the need for such applications by building an open-source application that can be deployed internally by any business seeking a management tool for its IT department.
