Establishment And Mapping Of Heterogeneous Anomalies In Network Intrusion Datasets, Liam Riddell, Mohiuddin Ahmed, Paul Haskell-Dowland

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Anomaly detection in the scope of network security aims to identify network instances for the unexpected and unique, with various security operations employing such techniques to facilitate effective threat detection. However, many systems have been designed based on the absolute mapping of attacks to one of three anomaly types (i.e. point, collective, or contextual), a strategy not supported by the recent findings of hybrid anomaly classifications. Given the growing usage of network anomaly detection and the implications of hybrid anomalies, we propose several heterogeneous anomaly types and provide an unsupervised approach for the automated mapping of network threats. Initial findings …

Color Dependence Of The Topological Susceptibility In Yang-Mills Theories, Ed Bennett, Deog Ki Hong, Jong Wan Lee, C. J.David Lin, Biagio Lucini, Maurizio Piai, Davide Vadacchino

School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics

For Yang-Mills theories in four dimensions, we propose to rescale the ratio between topologicalsusceptibility and string tension squared in a universal way, dependent only on group factors. We applythis suggestion to SU(Nc ) and Sp(Nc ) groups, and compare lattice measurements performed by severalindependent collaborations. We show that the two sequences of (rescaled) numerical results in these twofamilies of groups are compatible with each other. We hence perform a combined fit, and extrapolate tothe common large-Nc limit.

Applying Hls To Fpga Data Preprocessing In The Advanced Particle-Astrophysics Telescope, Meagan Konst

McKelvey School of Engineering Graduate Student Theses & Dissertations

The Advanced Particle-astrophysics Telescope (APT) and its preliminary iteration the Antarctic Demonstrator for APT (ADAPT) are highly collaborative projects that seek to capture gamma-ray emissions. Along with dark matter and ultra-heavy cosmic ray nuclei measurements, APT will provide sub-degree localization and polarization measurements for gamma-ray transients. This will allow for devices on Earth to point to the direction from which the gamma-ray transients originated in order to collect additional data. The data collection process is as follows. A scintillation occurs and is detected by the wavelength-shifting fibers. This signal is then read by an ASIC and stored in an ADC …

Investigating Applications Of Deep Learning For Diagnosis Of Post Traumatic Elbow Disease, Hugh James Dec 2022

Investigating Applications Of Deep Learning For Diagnosis Of Post Traumatic Elbow Disease, Hugh James

McKelvey School of Engineering Graduate Student Theses & Dissertations

Traumatic events such as dislocation, breaks, and arthritis of musculoskeletal joints can cause the development of post-traumatic joint contracture (PTJC). Clinically, noninvasive techniques such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans are used to analyze the disease. Such procedures require a patient to sit sedentary for long periods of time and can be expensive as well. Additionally, years of practice and experience are required for clinicians to accurately recognize the diseased anterior capsule region and make an accurate diagnosis. Manual tracing of the anterior capsule is done to help with diagnosis but is subjective and timely. As a result, there is …

Saving Indian Consumers From Unfair Contract Terms – The Impact Of Section 2(46), Consumer Protection Act, 2019 On The Home Buyers Industry, Shivkrit Rai

International Journal on Consumer Law and Practice

On July 24, 2020, the Central Government notified the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, thereby replacing the Consumer Protection Act, 1986. One of the most significant changes brought about in the new Act is the introduction of a provision dealing with the unfair contract. This article traces how judicial and quasi-judicial forums dealt with unfair clauses in contracts prior to the implementation of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. This is done by discussing different nuances from Competition Commission, and Consumer Commission along with narratives from United Kingdom’s Consumer Rights Act, 2015. The author argues that an explicit provision empowering the Consumer …

As the world shifts to technological advancements, the advent of e-commerce marks its peak, particularly in India, where it has been earmarked as the fastest growing market with an annual growth rate of 51%. While these developments are an important part of globalization, a few challenges come along. Issues like unfair contracts, privacy, data protection, faulty goods, refund or return remained unaddressed as the earlier existing Consumer Protection Act, 1986 did not elucidate on the same. Given the above, the Law Commission of India had recommended that a separate law be enacted for better consumer protection. Based on the recommendations …

We all are consumers by birth and remain consumers till death, and at the same time, it is also true that a consumer becomes the victim of exploitation in different ways. Adulterations, underweight, duplicate or cloned goods, and misleading and insufficient information are some ways of victimizing consumers. Today, we are standing at a juncture where we have a series of legislative, judicial, and administrative efforts to protect consumers. On the other hand, we have a plethora of incidents of exploitation of consumers. The nature of the legislation available for the protection of consumers is not purely criminal but sometimes …

A Ray Of Hope For Consumers In Nigeria As Exemption Clauses Slide Towards Extinction, Felicia Nwanne Monye Dec 2022

A Ray Of Hope For Consumers In Nigeria As Exemption Clauses Slide Towards Extinction, Felicia Nwanne Monye

International Journal on Consumer Law and Practice

Exemption clauses have become a common feature in contracts of all forms, including contracts for the sale of goods and services, electronic commerce and consumer contracts. The effect is more severe in business-to-consumer contracts as consumers are not in a position to negotiate the terms of contracts and usually transact on the standard forms of suppliers. To ensure that businesses do not abuse the weaker bargaining position of consumers, some countries have adopted some measures to curtail or prohibit the use of exemption clauses in consumer contracts. A prominent statutory enactment in Nigeria in this regard is the Federal Competition …

Fintech, Payday Loans And The Changing Landscape Of Cash-Advance Consumer Credit In The United States, James P. Nehf

International Journal on Consumer Law and Practice

High-cost, cash-advance or “payday” loans have plagued low-in come consumers in the United States for several decades. With little regulation at the federal level, states have created a wide variety of regulatory frameworks addressing payday loans--from banning payday loans altogether in some states to permitting them with few restrictions on fees and practices in others. In recent years, however, an alternative to payday loans has emerged as fin tech lenders partner with employers to offer “earned wage access” or EWA plans to low wage workers which allows them to obtain part of their earned wages before their actual payday. At …
