Some manufacturing business leaders struggle to hire candidates due to drug usage, which negatively impacts profitability. Grounded in Vroom’s expectancy theory, the purpose of this multiple case study was to explore strategies manufacturing business leaders use to hire candidates who can pass a drug test in the southeast region of the United States. This study examined the effects of the toxic chemicals contained in volatile organic compounds (VOCs) on cancer occurrence and heart disease through occupational and environmental exposure to groundwater sources.
