Precision Weed Management Based On Uas Image Streams, Machine Learning, And Pwm Sprayers, Jason Allen Davis Dec 2022

Precision Weed Management Based On Uas Image Streams, Machine Learning, And Pwm Sprayers, Jason Allen Davis

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Weed populations in agricultural production fields are often scattered and unevenly distributed; however, herbicides are broadcast across fields evenly. Although effective, in the case of post-emergent herbicides, exceedingly more pesticides are used than necessary. A novel weed detection and control workflow was evaluated targeting Palmer amaranth in soybean (Glycine max) fields. High spatial resolution (0.4 cm) unmanned aircraft system (UAS) image streams were collected, annotated, and used to train 16 object detection convolutional neural networks (CNNs; RetinaNet, Faster R-CNN, Single Shot Detector, and YOLO v3) each trained on imagery with 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, and 1.2 cm spatial resolutions. Models were …

Comparative Analysis Of Conformational Transition Pathways In Homologous Proteins, Dylan Sebastien Ogden Dec 2022

Comparative Analysis Of Conformational Transition Pathways In Homologous Proteins, Dylan Sebastien Ogden

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations are routinely used to study the dynamics of proteins. However, conventional MD limited to the sampling of local conformational changes as the functionally important conformational transitions of proteins often extend beyond the timescales of the simulations employed, for example, membrane transport proteins. We have determined the combination of multiple MD based techniques that allows for a rigorous characterization of energetics and kinetics of large-scale conformational changes in membrane proteins. The methodology is based on biased, nonequilibrium collective variable based simulations including nonequilibrium pulling, string method with swarms of trajectories, bias-exchange umbrella sampling, and rate estimation techniques. …

Wavenumbers 3 And 4 Quasi 2-Day Wave Activities Observed By Multiple Meteor Radars In The Two Hemispheres During Austral Summer, Hao Cheng, Kai Ming Huang, Alan Z. Liu, Shao Dong Zhang, Chun Ming Huang, Yun Gong

Publications

Combining observations from three meteor radars in the Northern Hemisphere (NH) and a meteor radar in the Southern Hemisphere (SH) and reanalysis data, we present successive wavenumbers 3 and 4 (W3 and W4) quasi 2 day wave activities in austral summer. In the mesosphere and lower thermosphere, the wave exhibits two burst activities. The W3 dominates the first burst, while the W4 is the predominate mode in the second burst. The mode transition arises in the late January and is completed around the end of January. The W3 and W4 have the nearly same dominate period of about 46 hr …

Student Mobility In A Choice School District And It's Impact On School Performance Scores, Trisean F. Wilson Dec 2022

Student Mobility In A Choice School District And It's Impact On School Performance Scores, Trisean F. Wilson

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Since World War II, student mobility and its relationship to student academic performance on mandated standardized tests have been researched with varied findings. Student mobility contributes to student disengagement and the postponement of instruction of mobile and nonmobile students (Smith, Fine, & Paine, 2008). Though mobility is not the sole cause of poor student performance, its indirect impact influences a school’s progress towards Adequate Yearly Progress. This quantitative study examines the correlation between student mobility and the school performance rating in an all-choice school district. State Department of Education data was used to determine school-based student mobility in the all-choice …

The Rise And False Of Confederate Monuments, Julia M. Hamilton Dec 2022

The Rise And False Of Confederate Monuments, Julia M. Hamilton

Museum Studies Theses

Removing Confederate monuments in the United States has caused a racist, violent, and deadly backlash. Those who are against removing Confederate monuments make claims that doing so is erasing history and culture. This thesis argues that removing these monuments corrects history because Confederate monuments are not historically accurate. Factual historic evidence is provided as well as literature to support this claim. Case studies are provided that explore different institutional responses to racist Confederate monuments and problematic museum displays. This paper explores the responsibility that historic public spaces must ensure accurate information is available to the American public.

Urbanization Of Aedes Mosquito Populations And Evolution Of Arboviral Disease Risk In Africa, Sheila B. Agha, David P. Tchouassi Dec 2022

Urbanization Of Aedes Mosquito Populations And Evolution Of Arboviral Disease Risk In Africa, Sheila B. Agha, David P. Tchouassi

All Peer-Reviewed Publications

The arboviral diseases dengue, chikungunya, and yellow fever are re-merging and gaining a foothold in Africa, with a significant threat of large outbreaks in urban areas. Although their emergence is intimately linked to the primary vector Aedes aegypti, which thrives in urban environments, the risk of these diseases remains substantially heterogeneous in different geographic areas. Range expansion of invasive mosquito species Aedes albopictus, and colonization of urban habitats by sylvatic and peridomestic Aedes vectors, are likely to alter the diseases’ epidemiology. We discuss how a network of different vector species and perhaps vector subpopulations could interact with associated serotypes/genotypes/lineages of …

Outdoor biting by anopheline mosquitoes is one of the contributors to residual malaria transmission, but the profile of vectors driving this phenomenon is not well understood. Here, we studied the bionomics and genetically characterized populations of An. gambiae and An. funestus complexes trapped outdoors in three selected dryland areas including Kerio Valley, Nguruman and Rabai in Kenya. We observed a higher abundance of Anopheles funestus group members (n = 639, 90.6%) compared to those of the An. gambiae complex (n = 66, 9.4%) with An. longipalpis C as the dominant vector species with a Plasmodium falciparum sporozoite rate (Pfsp) of …

Arkansas is the leading soybean-producing state in the mid-southern United States. Arkansas ranked 11th in soybean production in 2021 compared to the other soybean-producing states in the U.S. The state represented 3.49% of the total U.S. soybean production and 3.49% of the total acres planted in soybean in 2021. The 2021 state soybean average yield was 52.0 bushels per acre, setting a new state record and surpassing the previous yield record of 51.5 bushels per acre set in 2020. The top five soybean-producing counties in 2021 were Mississippi, Phillips, Crittenden, Poinsett, and Arkansas (Table 1). These five counties accounted for …

Don't Interfere With My Rights! Employee Rights Violation And The Cost Of Bank Loans, Amirhossein Fard, Ibrahim Siraj, Bin Wang Dec 2022

Don't Interfere With My Rights! Employee Rights Violation And The Cost Of Bank Loans, Amirhossein Fard, Ibrahim Siraj, Bin Wang

Finance Faculty Research and Publications

We study the relationship between the cost of bank loans and the charges filed to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) due to managerial interference in employee rights. Loans issued after the filing of the allegations are associated with significantly higher loan spreads than loans initiated before the filing of allegations. Strong allegations that result in withdrawal with adjustments or compliance tend to positively affect the loan pricing. Further, interfering firms tend to experience higher default risks in the years following the filing of charges. Our paper is the first in the literature to show the impact of violation of …

Computational Fluid Dynamics Modeling Of Hemodialysis In Patients With An Arteriovenous Fistula, Maximilian Roth Dec 2022

Computational Fluid Dynamics Modeling Of Hemodialysis In Patients With An Arteriovenous Fistula, Maximilian Roth

McKelvey School of Engineering Graduate Student Theses & Dissertations

With the advent of arteriovenous fistula (AVF) for use in hemodialysis, the anastomosis built for such use has become a central point of the study to understand the flow and wall shear stresses in such a system since very large wall shear stresses can lead to arterial/vein rupture. Considering the commonly used creation site of an anastomosis as connecting the radial artery to the cephalic vein, a model is created to calculate the wall shear stresses across various components of the system. The model depicts a connection of the specified vein and artery bridged together allowing the increase in blood …

Introduction: Transient bone marrow edema (TBME) is a condition that typically presents in middle-aged adults with a male to female ratio of 3:1. Cases have also been noted in females during the third trimester of pregnancy. Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to this condition as the pathophysiology demonstrates poorly mineralized osteoid in presenting lesions. It is rare for a healthy child or adolescent to present with TBME introducing the purpose of this case study. This case report aims to provide medical and surgical education on TBME in a young and healthy adolescent. To our best knowledge, this is the …

Code Of Ethics Quality And Audit Fees, Hong Kim Duong, Giorgio Gotti, Michael T. Stein, Anthony Chen

School of Accountancy Faculty Publications

Using a sample of U.S. firms from 2003 to 2018, we examine the effect of an audit client’s code of ethics quality on audit fees. We find that clients with a lower code of ethics quality pay significantly higher audit fees, suggesting that auditors perceive such clients as riskier and charge greater risk premiums. We also find that such clients have higher litigation risk and auditors spend greater effort when auditing such clients. Our study is among the first to demonstrate the role of a client’s code of ethics quality in audit pricing. Overall, our findings are consistent with …

Seroprevalence And Titer Concentration Testing For Leptospirosis In Equine, Ashley Himmelsbaugh Dec 2022

Seroprevalence And Titer Concentration Testing For Leptospirosis In Equine, Ashley Himmelsbaugh

Honors College Theses

The most common best management practice used to combat diseases in horses is vaccination, which can decrease the incidence or severity of illness. However, the duration of immunity will vary for each vaccination and must be considered for revaccination purposes. Titer concentration, which evaluates antibodies in the blood, may be a helpful way of determining how long an animal has immunity to a disease. Leptospirosis, a zoonotic, bacterial disease, can result in uveitis, potentially leading to blindness, and abortion in mares. One serovar, Leptospirosis pomona (L. pomona), is associated with most cases of clinical disease in horses in North America. …

You Can Be Anything You Want: An Analysis Of Gender Stereotypes In Early Childhood Literature, Emily Renee Marshall Dec 2022

You Can Be Anything You Want: An Analysis Of Gender Stereotypes In Early Childhood Literature, Emily Renee Marshall

Honors College Theses

The theme of gender roles is present in many genres of literature. In early children’s literature, the vast majority of these stories portray the most common gender stereotypes, such as girls who wear pink and play with dolls, while boys wear blue and play with cars and trucks. The families’ roles are also seen in these books. For example, the mother figure is usually seen at home with the children, working in the kitchen or outside in the garden, while the father is often portrayed coming home from a long day of work in a suit and tie. These gender …

Hyperviscosity Syndrome Multiorgan System Failure In Multiple Myeloma, Anas Mahmoud, P. Rana, Tala Beilani, I.M. Ismaiel

Student Publications

Hyperviscosity is typically seen in patients suffering from diseases such as Waldenström macroglobulinemia or sickle cell, however, is a rare occurrence in Multiple Myeloma (MM). Here we report an unusual case of a patent with MM who originally presented septic but was discovered to be suffering from hyperviscosity syndrome. Since multiple pathologies can be found in these types of patients, they may resemble a coagulopathy or infectious etiology. It is imperative to avoid diagnostic and treatment delays to avoid morbidity and mortality by exploring serum viscosity and obtaining biopsies of any lesions that may be present when hyperviscosity syndrome is …
