Acquisition Of The Liaison In French As A Foreign Language: Difficulty And Remedy, Saad Haddad Dec 2022

Acquisition Of The Liaison In French As A Foreign Language: Difficulty And Remedy, Saad Haddad

Association of Arab Universities Journal for Arts مجلة اتحاد الجامعات العربية للآداب

“Liaison is a phenomenon that aroused and continues to arouse a large number of researchers' interest because of its complexity and diversity. The studies on this subject often concern when and how different native and non-native speakers perform or do not perform the liaison in French. The difficulty posed by the phenomenon of liaison is even more evident among non-native speakers for whom such correspondence does not exist in the mother tongue”. (Mårtensson, 2013 : p 3). This study aims to map the difficulties of liaison encountered by Arabic-speaking learners in French as a Foreign language class. The results of …

Cesaire's Tempest Writes Back To The Empire, Sawsan Ahmad Daraiseh, Nancy Habis Al-Doghmi, Banan Ahmad Daraiseh

Association of Arab Universities Journal for Arts مجلة اتحاد الجامعات العربية للآداب

Aimé Césaire, who lived the experience of colonialism, wrote back to Shakespeare’s play The Tempest in a play of his own, which he called A Tempest. Unlike notions of A Tempest as a simplistic writing back, the current research reveals A Tempest as a sophisticated play in which Césaire uses his own creative methods, some of which incorporate the colonizer and others the colonized, to write back to the Empire which Shakespeare represents well and reflects. This research performs a deep analysis of A Tempest, revealing the voice of the Other as enabled; arguing with and disabling The Tempest’s deep …

This principally refers to the fact that they appear …

Liberalism And Humanism - The Arab Case, Ibrahem Badran Dec 2022

Liberalism And Humanism - The Arab Case, Ibrahem Badran

Association of Arab Universities Journal for Arts مجلة اتحاد الجامعات العربية للآداب

Liberalism as a school of thought focuses on individul freedom, the rule of law, constitutional government, economic freedom, tolerance of others in thought, apinion and belief, and denial of authoritative regimes. The practical interpretation of liberalism is institutional democracy, equal citizenship and freedom of ownership. Liberalism stems from the fact that individiaul freedom and right is the essence so no authority should not block such freedom. Because "Liberal Capitalism" is not an ideology, every society builds its economy and institutions according to what its experts, thinkers and environment dictate. Hence, countries differ totally in the details of its economic and …

Effect Of Freeze Thaw Cycles On Elbow Mobility In A Long Evans Rat, Sophia Miller

Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science Independent Study

Throughout the 2022 Fall semester I worked in Dr. Lake’s musculoskeletal soft tissue lab on the Post Traumatic Joint Contracture(PTJC) project. Previous work on this project used a rat model of the elbow to explore different factors affecting this disease and potential treatments. There are many different tests used to quantify the rats progress through this condition. One is range of motion testing. The typical procedure for this project is to sacrifice the animals and then freeze them before performing range of motion testing. This project tested the animals range of motion immediately after sacrifice and then again after the …

Fill And Dump Measurement Of The Neutron Lifetime Using An Asymmetric Magneto-Gravitational Trap, Alexander Komives, Et Al. Dec 2022

Fill And Dump Measurement Of The Neutron Lifetime Using An Asymmetric Magneto-Gravitational Trap, Alexander Komives, Et Al.

Physics & Astronomy Faculty publications

The past two decades have yielded several new measurements and reanalysis of older measurements of the neutron lifetime. These have led to a 4.4 standard deviation discrepancy between the most precise measurements of the neutron decay rate producing protons in cold neutron beams and the most precise lifetime measured in neutron storage experiments. Measurements using different techniques are important for investigating whether there are unidentified systematic effects in any of the measurements. In this paper we report a new measurement using the Los Alamos asymmetric magneto-gravitational trap where the surviving neutrons are counted external to the trap using the fill …

Patient Factors Impacting Perioperative Outcomes For T1b-T2 Localized Renal Cell Carcinoma May Guide Decision For Partial Versus Radical Nephrectomy, Yash B Shah, Rishabh K Simhal, Kerith Wang, Hanan Goldberg, Costas D. Lallas, Thenappan Chandrasekar

Department of Urology Faculty Papers

There remains debate surrounding partial (PN) versus radical nephrectomy (RN) for T1b-T2 renal cell carcinoma (RCC). PN offers nephron-sparing benefits but involves increased perioperative complications. RN putatively maximizes oncologic benefit with complex tumors. We analyzed newly available nephrectomy-specific NSQIP data to elucidate predictors of perioperative outcomes in localized T1b-T2 RCC. We identified 2094 patients undergoing nephrectomy between 2019-2020. Captured variables include surgical procedure and approach, staging, comorbidities, prophylaxis, peri-operative complications, reoperations, and readmissions. 816 patients received PN while 1278 received RN. Reoperation rates were comparable; however, PN patients more commonly experienced 30-day readmissions (7.0% vs. 4.7%, p = 0.026), bleeds …

Effective antigen delivery facilitates antiviral vaccine success defined by effective immune protective re- sponses against viral exposures. To improve severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV- 2) antigen delivery, a controlled biodegradable, stable, biocompatible, and nontoxic polymeric micro- sphere system was developed for chemically inactivated viral proteins. SARS-CoV-2 proteins encapsulated in polymeric microspheres induced robust antiviral immunity. The viral antigen-loaded microsphere sys- tem can preclude the need for repeat administrations, highlighting its potential as an effective vaccine.

Non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA) is the most severe form of male infertility and typically incurable. Defining the genetic basis of NOA has proven challenging, and the most advanced classification of NOA subforms is not based on genetics, but simple description of testis histology. In this study, we exome-sequenced over 1000 clinically diagnosed NOA cases and identified a plausible recessive Mendelian cause in 20%. We find further support for 21 genes in a 2-stage burden test with 2072 cases and 11,587 fertile controls. The disrupted genes are primarily on the autosomes, enriched for undescribed human "knockouts", and, for the most part, have …

The Genus Barbaracurus In Saudi Arabia (Scorpiones: Buthidae), With Description Of A New Species, František Kovařík, Graeme Lowe, František Šťáhlavský, Pavel Just

Euscorpius

The genus Barbaracurus (Scorpiones: Buthidae) is recorded for the first time from Saudi Arabia. B. yemenensis Kovařík et al., 2018 was found in the extreme southwest of the country, near its border with Yemen. The diagnosis of the species is emended based on the finding of adult males and a large adult female. The proximal margins of the pedipalp fingers of male B. yemenensis are strongly undulate, leaving a gap with the fingers closed. This character differentiates it from all other species of Barbaracurus in the Arabian Peninsula. A second species, B. kabateki sp. n. from Saudi Arabia is described …

Predicting Convection Configurations In Coupled Fluid-Porous Systems, Matthew Mccurdy, Nicholas J. Moore, Xiaoming Wang Dec 2022

Predicting Convection Configurations In Coupled Fluid-Porous Systems, Matthew Mccurdy, Nicholas J. Moore, Xiaoming Wang

Mathematics and Statistics Faculty Research & Creative Works

A ubiquitous arrangement in nature is a free-flowing fluid coupled to a porous medium, for example a river or lake lying above a porous bed. Depending on the environmental conditions, thermal convection can occur and may be confined to the clear fluid region, forming shallow convection cells, or it can penetrate into the porous medium, forming deep cells. Here, we combine three complementary approaches - linear stability analysis, fully nonlinear numerical simulations and a coarse-grained model - to determine the circumstances that lead to each configuration. the coarse-grained model yields an explicit formula for the transition between deep and shallow …
