Effects Of Articular Knee Injections On Cartilage Of Knee Osteoarthritis Patients And Development Of Rapid Decalcification Method For Articular Cartilage And Subchondral Bone, Pattaranatcha Charnwichai
Effects Of Articular Knee Injections On Cartilage Of Knee Osteoarthritis Patients And Development Of Rapid Decalcification Method For Articular Cartilage And Subchondral Bone, Pattaranatcha Charnwichai
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common degenerative joint disease that affects articular cartilage. Intra-articular injection (IA) is one of the treatments that is used to reduce pain and relieve symptoms. Triamcinolone acetonide (TA) and hyaluronic acid (HA) are frequently used in IA injections for OA treatment. Several publications have reported effects of TA, but some of HA, on articular cartilage. Moreover, for histopathological studies, articular cartilage and subchondral bones are commonly used as samples, but the decalcification process is time consuming. Thus, this study aims to compare effects of drugs used in IA injections on cartilage and chondrocytes of osteoarthritis …

Synthesis And Biological Activities Of Acyl Derivatives Of Hydroxylated Eudesmanolides, Rawinnipha Wettayanugul
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This research focused on the synthesis of two hydroxylated eudesmanolides, reynosin (RNS, 2) and santamarine (STM, 3) from costunolide (1) isolated from Saussurea lappa roots, and the synthesis of their acyl derivatives to study on their biological activities. A total of 20 acyl derivatives of hydroxylated eudesmanolides, including 14 new compounds: 2(a-c), 3b, 3c, 3e, 3f, 3(h-j), and 3(l-o). The compounds were then evaluated for their anti-melanogenic, anti-colorectal cancer, and anti-inflammatory activities. It was observed that STM (3) exhibited anti-melanogenic and anti-colorectal cancer activity with IC50 values of 8.02 and 15.55 µM, respectively, which was greater than RNS (2) (IC50 …
Naturally Derived Polymeric Gel For Bio-Catalysis And Wound Dressing, Yuwaporn Pinyakit
Naturally Derived Polymeric Gel For Bio-Catalysis And Wound Dressing, Yuwaporn Pinyakit
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
In this thesis, two types of polymeric gels made from naturally derived polymers have been developed for bio-catalysis and wound dressing applications. In the first part, the heterogeneous biocatalyst with tunable geometry was fabricated using a 3D printing technique. The hydrogel-based ink as a supporting material for the immobilization of laccase was prepared from alginate (Alg) combined with Pluronic® F127-dimethacrylate (F127-DMA). Chemically crosslinked F127-DMA hydrogel with an optimized Alg composition exhibited good water swelling, mass transfer, and mechanical stability. To enhance the interaction between substrate and enzyme, the printed constructs with various surface-to-volume ratio (S/V) and geometrical designs (cubic, cylinder, …

Characteristics Of Mononucleotide A-Repeats Around Transcription Start Sites In Vertebrates, Jatuphol Pholtaisong
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Tandem repeats (TRs) promote a wide variety of phenotypic traits. The imbalance of mononucleotide A-repeats around transcription start sites (TSSs) in human, mouse and rat in previous study. In this study, the imbalance of A-repeats in 60 vertebrates was investigated, and the potential function of upstream A-repeats was identified. We discovered that some vertebrates were the origin of the imbalance pattern. Mammals and birds had a similar pattern, while amphibians and reptiles did not. We hypothesized that the enriched A-repeats upstream of TSSs is a novel hallmark of endotherms or warm-blooded animals. Gene ontology analysis indicates that the primary function …
Water Quality Prediction On Bang Pakong River Under Climate Change Using Data-Driven Models., Phuoc Thanh Ho
Water Quality Prediction On Bang Pakong River Under Climate Change Using Data-Driven Models., Phuoc Thanh Ho
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
The Bang Pakong River, Chachoengsao Province, Thailand, is one of the most important rivers in the eastern part of Thailand due to its primary role in water supplies. However, the deterioration in the quality of the BPKR is critical due to anthropogenic activities and climate change since the 2000s. Therefore, the study aimed to establish ARMAX and MLP-ANN models to forecast some water quality parameters in the near future and predict general water quality indexes of the river, supported by correlation analysis between water quality parameters with climate and land use. The analysis results revealed that when agricultural land decreased …

Heart failure (HF) is a major health problem worldwide. The development of effective drug and/or device therapy is crucial to mitigate the significant morbidity, mortality and healthcare costs associated with HF. The choice of endpoint in clinical trials has important practical and clinical implications. Outcomes of interest including mortality and HF hospitalisations provide robust evidence for regulatory approval granted there is sufficiency of safety data. At the same time, it is important to recognise that HF patients experience significant impairments in functional capacity and quality of life, underscoring the need to incorporate parameters of symptoms and patient-reported outcomes in clinical …

The core clock component REV-ERB is essential for heart function. Previous studies show that REV-ERB agonist SR9009 ameliorates heart remodeling in the pressure overload model with transverse aortic constriction (TAC). However, it is unknown whether SR9009 indeed works through cardiac REV-ERB, given that SR9009 might target other proteins and that REV-ERB in non-cardiac tissues might regulate cardiac functions indirectly. To address this question, we generated the REV-ERBα/β cardiac-specific double knockout mice (cDKO). We found that REV-ERB cardiac deficiency leads to profound dilated cardiac myopathy after TAC compared to wild-type (WT) control mice, confirming the critical role of REV-ERB in protecting …

BACKGROUND: Diaphanous related formin 1 (DIAPH1) is a novel component of advanced glycation end product (AGE) signal transduction that was recently found to participate in diabetes-related disorders, obesity, and androgen hormones. We investigated whether plasma DIAPH1 levels were a potential prognostic predictor for polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
METHODS: The levels of circulating plasma DIAPH1 and indicators of glucose, insulin, lipid metabolism, liver enzymes, kidney function, sex hormones, and inflammation were measured in 75 patients with PCOS and 77 healthy participants. All of the participants were divided into normal-weight (NW) and overweight/obese (OW) subgroups. Statistical analyses were performed with R studio. …

Steroid Receptor Coactivators – Their Role In Immunity, Yosi Gilad, David M Lonard, Bert W O'Malley

Steroid Receptor Coactivators (SRCs) are essential regulators of transcription with a wide range of impact on human physiology and pathology. In immunology, SRCs play multiple roles; they are involved in the regulation of nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB), macrophage (MΦ) activity, lymphoid cells proliferation, development and function, to name just a few. The three SRC family members, SRC-1, SRC-2 and SRC-3, can exert their immunological function either in an independent manner or act in synergy with each other. In certain biological contexts, one SRC family member can compensate for lack of activity of another member, while in other cases one SRC can …
