The United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit was created in 1982 to unify and clarify patent law, inter alia. It was built from political compromise after the Hruska Commission, which studied the caseload crisis in the federal appellate courts in the 1970s, initially recommended creation of a new National Court of Appeals that would exist between the regional federal appellate circuits and the Supreme Court. The Federal Circuit judges admirably implemented these functions for four decades.

The nest structure of two species of small mammals, Marmosa simonsi and Rhipidomys latimanus were recorded for the first time. Nests were found inside artificial nest boxes in a tropical dry forest remnant ecosystem in Western Ecuador. We described the nests and categorized them as rearing nest, permanent resting nest and transient refuge, depending on their intended use. Artificial nest boxes provide an optimal place for pup rearing and resting for these small mammals. These nest sites can be useful for ecological studies of behavior and habits of elusive, poorly-known mammalian species.

For the first time, specimens were found incidentally in the Semiarid Region of Chile (Choapa River Basin). We added a new record of a freshwater sponge at the family level from Honduras. The presence of the Dosilia genus in Central America was confirmed, extending its distribution by 890 linear miles south of Mexico. This constitutes a new southern range extension of D. radiospiculata from the Nearctic to Neotropical region. The specimen was collected from the Pacific slope of Honduras. Although sponges constitute an important element of a freshwater ecosystem, environmental pressures and contamination of rivers or other aquatic environments, where they exist, have not been considered under any category of protection.
