Super Absorbent Polymer Application Under Suboptimal Environments: Implications And Challenges For Marginal Lands And Abiotic Stresses, Asif Jamal, Sadam Hussain, Saddam Hussain, Amar Matloob, Tahir Hussain Awan, Farida Irshad, Basharat Ali, Ejaz Waraich

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

World population is increasing at an alarming rate, and crop cultivation on marginal lands has emerged as an alternate option to feed the burgeoning population. However, marginal lands are characterized by poor soil health and other undesirable characteristics resulting in low crop production and less economic returns. Interest in the application of superabsorbent polymers (SAPs) for marginal lands has been increasing. The SAPs application increases the germination percentage, seedling growth, and grain yield of different crops. Being hydrophilic in nature, SAPs can absorb and retain a huge quantity of water, and thereby enhance the water use efficiency in crops. In …

In Silico Analysis Of The Regulatory Gene Families For Proanthocyanidins Biosynthesis In The Genus Gossypium L., Aleksandra Mikhailova, Ksenia Strygina, Elena Khlestkina

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The flavonoid pigments provide cotton cultivars with various shades of the naturally colored fiber. Despite of the deep knowledge about the flavonoids biosynthesis pathway in cotton, the genetic features underlying its control are not fully understood. Particularly, data on regulatory genes for the proanthocyanidins (PAs) branch are incomplete for the genus Gossypium L. Here we report results of comprehensive in silico analysis of the R2R3-Myb, bHLH-Myc and WD40 regulatory gene families, involved in the biosynthesis of flavonoid pigment PAs in cotton. For the first time, we identified regulatory genes R2R3-Myb, bHLH-Myc and WD40, including paralogous and homoeologous copies, among all …

Identification Of Snp Markers Linked To Rf Locus In Carrot Using Gbs, Sevi̇n Teoman Duran, Ahmet İpek

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Commercial carrot production is based on the use of hybrid seed varieties worldwide. Cytoplasmic genetic male sterility (CGMS) mechanism has been widely used as the main method for hybrid carrot seed production. There is a significant demand for a rapid method for identification of fertility restorer gene (Rf) carrying individual plants in a carrot breeding population. The objective of this research was to identify SNP markers linked to Rf locus and develop a genetic map of Rf gene in carrot. For this purpose, a carrot F2 population segregating for male sterility was produced and segregating 10,425 SNP markers were discovered …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Preparation of biocatalyst dependent on immobilized penicillin G acylase (PGA) was of substantial importance for proteomic research, organic synthesis, and industrial applications. Herein, we developed an easy method for nano-magnetic composite to immobilize PGA. Fe3O4 nano-magnetic particles were co-precipitated with Fe3+ and Fe2+ in an ammonia solution (NH3) and treated with silicon dioxide (SiO2), which was developed using the sol-gel process. Thereafter, 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) was used to modify the silica-coated Fe3O4, which would result in the attachment of the primary amine groups to the particle surface. After that, the attachment of primary amine group was reacted with glutaraldehyde (Glu) to …

Catalytic Activity Of Ethylbenzene With Product Selectivity By Gold Nanoparticlessupported On Zinc Oxide, Afiq Anwar, Azman Ma'amor, H.N.M. Ekramul Mahmud, Wan Jefrey Basirun, Iskandar Abdullah

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

The oxidation of ethylbenzene (EB) using tert-butyl hydroperoxide as the oxidizing agent was carried out in presence of gold nanoparticles (3 nm) supported on zinc oxide in acetonitrile solution. A higher selectivity towards acetophenone (ACP) as the major product, and a moderate selectivity towards other products such as 1-phenylethanol (PE), benzaldehyde (BZL), and benzoic acid (BzA) were observed using the prepared Au/ZnO nanocatalysts at 100 °C for 24 h. It is suggested the reaction produces an intermediate product, which is dimethylethyl-1-phenylethyl peroxide through a radical mechanism. A small amount of benzaldehyde was observed because benzaldehyde went autoxidation to form benzoic …
